    So fun to take the Carl Zeiss 50mm f1.4 lens out on Fujifilm GFX 50s. What are your favorite vintage lenses for the GFX system?

      As I remember from the 1980´s, the Contax Zeiss Planar 50mm 1.7 T* was better tan the 1.4 !

      @@JohnCross-rz5uq Thank you for the comment. That is interesting. I have never compared the 1.7 to the 1.4.

    Interesting experiment, thanks for the video Marshall. The clarity of that spider web between the lower and upper bridge sections was pretty amazing.

      Thank you for the comment. The CZ lens glass is so good, and that spiderweb is a good example of just how good.

    I've been using it on 100S for almost three years now! I think it's the best adapted C/Y Contax lens for GFX, except for those long focal length.

    I was comparing 85mm lenses and the Contax was the only one I kept. So much better than the Mamiya IMHO and even the Nikon I tried. Liked it so much I got the 100 and that's even better! It's also the superior build quality that makes these so nice to use.

    Another nice video :) pity that the vignetting is still limited by the image circle. I haven't used my M adapter on my GFX in a while so thanks for the reminder! My lenses are so small that they look silly but I haven't tried my new one yet 😅

      Thank you for the kind words! The vignetting is a bummer, but cropping is an option, especially with the large GFX sensor. Also agree that the vintage lens are so light and small they do look a little odd on the larger cameras. I did like the idea of carrying around less weight all day with smaller/lighter lens though.

    I don't understand why anyone would put a lens for a 135 format on a somewhat of a medium format camera and not expect vignetting. I have this lens and as any CZ lens, it shines on the format it was meant for. It's color rendering is beautiful as is the bokeh. Much better, in my opinion, than even a Summicron-R 50mm which I also own. Use a Pentacon6 CZ lens on your Fuji to get rid of vignetting and get beautiful color rendering with high acuity.

      Thank you for the comment and Pentacon6 CZ lenses suggestion. I use them regularly on my GFX camera. They are absolutely fantastic. This was an experiment to see how well the 35mm lenses did on the digital MF. Now we know. Over all the resolution holds up fairly well and they could be used if you are willing to crop the images and accept using a little more sharpening in post. Overall I agree that sticking to MF lens is probably the better idea, but I also know there are many of us that have the vintage 35mm lenses laying around and why not try to use them where we can.

    ! have one for a year and it is great. In the right situation- mainly in BW- it shines.

    I appreciate this video. Though the Zeiss 50 1.4 wasn't really on my radar, I have considered a nifty 50 comparison on the GFX, but can confidently say your video has excluded this lens from lenses I would consider. The barrel distortion alone was too much for me personally. If you have the chance to test the Zeiss 50 f4 for pentacon six, that is a lens I am often curious about. Obviously not going to have the most bokeh, but I imagine it's got some good points.

      Thank you for the comment. I'm out currently, but I think I own the 50. It's either the 50 or the 65mm. Thank you for the inspiration for a soon to be made video.

      @@marshalljvanderhoofphoto I'd also be interested if it's a 65mm as I am not away of that lens. The one I am referring to is the "Flexagon". Every day I consider selling my GF 250mm and invest in some older medium format glass for my own reviews. The advantage is of course they don't go down in value, so I can buy and sell to my hearts content. Disadvantage, the GF 250mm is such an epic lens, and it's hard to see a day when I will spend that kind of money again for a single lens.

    • @marshalljvanderhoofphoto
      @marshalljvanderhoofphoto  2 місяці тому +1

      @@filmstudiojapan It might take me a few weeks but I will get a review out of the lens I have. I've heard really good things about the GF250. That would be a difficult lens to part with for sure.

      The 65mm is more rare than the 50mm because they stopped making it in 1969. The 65mm was supposed to be only mediocre. A few years ago I set out to acquire the whole set of the CZ Jena lenses, but did not get one them because I ran out of funds at the time. When I get back from traveling I'll figure out which one I have and put it on the Fuji for some fun.

    What’s the idea of using a 35mm film lens on the gfx sensor.

    • @marshalljvanderhoofphoto
      @marshalljvanderhoofphoto  Місяць тому +1

      Thank you for the comment. The main reason is to see how this lens performs. It produces amazing colors and contrast, but can it handle the larger sensor of the GFX.
