India is and has always been a secular country where people of all religion, caste and ethnicity live together in different parts of the country.
Politics has often taken advantage of this ethnic diversity and tried to create a political divide at times, in the history of India.
The Hindu and Muslim conflict has been an ancient conflict often misused for political reasons right from the Mughal rule, British rule and upto present day Post-Independence India.
Inspite of all the political, religious, social and economical conflicts, India is a secular country where people of all ethnicities and religion have been living together in harmony and peace.
The short film “Perspective” is a true story.
I was driving my car in the rush hour traffic of Mumbai and crossing a politically and religiously sensitive area.
At a point on the road I got held up behind a Ganpati Procession which is a Hindu Idol Procession carried out during the Festival of the Hindu God Ganpati.
As I manoeuvred my car around the Procession and reached ahead I saw a Muslim Death Procession called a Janaza heading towards me from the opposite side of the road.
Both the processions were huge and there was no way one could cross the other without one of them stopping and letting the other go through first.
This was going to be a true test of the secularity of my Country.
The consequences of that incidence could have either been disastrous or overwhelming, all depending upon the strength of a fine thread called, ‘individual perspective’.
