If ashram is calling you fine. But you can live a very satisfied/high quality life by addressing stress going back to the basics - sleep well, eat wholesome food (prepare it yourself if you can, if you can grow it also, even better), move outdoors on a daily basis, socialise over sports and volunteering, find a meaningful job, meditate, breathe, surround yourself with inspiring and supportive people, read (instead of watching), avoid media, give back. It's so simple (maybe too simple for some:)).
I am female, 72 a nurse of 50 years. I do not take any medicine, no smoking maybe consume alcoholic beverages x1 or x2 a month or none. I live on my own and have not had any degree of stress in over 25 years. I take care of my own property 3 acres, eat simple clean food. (Avoid processed foods) do my own cooking. I cannot for the life of me understand why people would rather take medicine for their stress etc when they choose to NOT work on their own well being. Self control self improvement is where I believe it starts.
My friend who studies Zen Buddhism said it best, "it's easy to be peaceful and serene when you are in that kind of environment and have nothing to worry about. The real test is can you remain centered in a chaotic environment?" These places that sell a "retreat" are just making money off of people who are clueless and have the money to spend.
Just the way the body needs to sleep at night to recharge, thr mind also needs to recharge. Daily mediation is great, but sometimes stress builds up. A retreat is just a way of removing the accumulated stress so that you can back into the world more centered, skillful, and happy.
The "retreats" are like going to school to learn techniques on how to combat stress. So that when you return to the chaotic environment, you know the tools and techniques on how to stay centred even in the chaos.

Completly true! S.K.Y Changed my life for the better and im practicing every morning for 6 months and im never stopping again. It is truly magical, once you have done it for some time (30-40 days) I used to be stressed all day every day and had all sorts of addictions to manage my stress and anxiety. truly. I too after pursuing taoism realized this. Also , one can not meditate for 10 min or few days a year. Its useless. What one needs to do is , 24 hours a day 365 days a year , embrace the flow , embrace the simplicity . Stumbling up and down can happen, but its part of nature and flow, regardless, just flow only.Especially in times of Failure,stress, success, greed, etc, doesnot matter, once again flow . Like this steadily conditioning self into this can lead oneself .
A lot of stress is self imposed by trying to keep up with other people/friends, impressing others, wearing designer clothes, leasing fancy cars, buying a house you can't afford, etc. & struggle to pay bills. I see parents brag about what college their kid is going to. If you have wealth, then great, do whatever you want. But if you are average financially, you can't afford going out to eat all the time, or go on vacations you cannot afford. Try to live the best life you can simply & learn these excess things will not bring u more happiness.
Yup...living a simple life much less taxing. Modest home, cars, no designer crap, no extravagant vacations, kids at state schools....all good. Lot of exercise and eat healthy.

I fell out of my morning meditation practice 6 months ago (I had an 8 month streak going) and these last 6 months have been so insanely hard. On a regular life, city living, you will be stressed if you choose to be. You can be less stressed if you are true to yourself and avoid trying to be or living like others. Don't follow the script that society is selling to you; write your own. Eutress is a good thing for you; chronic stress is the one you need to watch for. I don't believe in this kind of places because real life is outside of the ashram; that's the real test.
When I was going through a hard time I established a meditation practice where I meditated anywhere from 10 min to an hr a day and I dropped 8 lbs without changing anything else about my routine. It really helps with the stress stuck in the body (I also took a few breath work classes). I haven’t been meditating recently because life’s a bit insane (which is more of a reason to meditate) and the weight is back. Going to get back into my practice to manage my stress

I dont have a high opinion of the teachings of monks and these gurus as they are living a very sanitized life. What do you know of patience when its not being tested? What do you know about forgiveness when no one is going to do harmful things to you? Their advice to control one's mind and attitude is sound but its basic. Its like listening to some kung fu teacher talk about how to fight when he doesn't actively spar someone who is competent? I have 2 kids and they drive me crazy. I thought I was patient until I had kids. I thought I was good natured until I lost my temper. I thought I was a good communicator until I realized I had to teach my kids basic things about cooperating, sharing, being resilient, etc. As for happiness, its all about removing the dumb reasons I come up with to be unhappy. Oh I dont make enough money. Oh I don't have a six pack. Oh I dont have as much free time as before. Etc etc. The "good" and "bad" exist in equal amounts but if you focus on all the bad parts then you'll never see the good. In other words, if you focus obsessively on what you dont have you won't spend the time to account for what you do have. One of the best phrases that sums this up is this: "I had the blues because I had no shoes, until I met a man with no feet".
They are living a sanitised life because they lived in the chaotic world and realised they don't want more chaos and stress. They actively and consciously built this "sanitised" life for themselves and sometimes for others.

People in an industrilaized world just don't know how to manage it because they've lost all connection to humanity and nature. People who are in tune with nature/human nature function very well in the industrialized world. It's a matter of what each person values and set out to make that a priority. A lot of comments about people wont have stress if they dont have work or normal life worries. This is incorrect. What we often overlook is what is noticing the stress. When we have frustrations, stress, emotions and thoughts, there is an immediacy to them. Our sense of self claims it, or thinks it is frustrated etc... but you are not. Frustration arises in your awareness but you are what is aware. And that is not frustrated or stressed. And when we look to what is aware rather than what it is aware of the immediacy goes, space is found, and calmness is known. Meditation isnt something we do, it is something we be. Meditation can happen despite what we are doing. I can meditate while working, while driving, while talking. It has nothing to do with being seated

Good things here, BUT, it is definitely bogus in some ways. It's much like astrology and reading palms to diagnose and evaluate a person. That's crazy. The advice and practices are common sense. Good health habits, exercise, friends, and some type of spirituality - meditation, prayer, nature. When there is a Guru around, my caution goes up.
Please, when you do subtitles, insert more words at each line. In my opinion, those 2 or 3 words changing quickly create a really disturbing experience. And subtitles of 1 word at a time can only create anxiety in my opinion. In general, I think it's better to use all techniques that help generating calmness, not those that cause anxiety. Finally, the use of harsh words goes totally against the proposed content.

You sit in a bus station and have a conversation with a nice and kind looking Indian and minutes later when you try to buy your bus ticket, you'll know that you lost your wallet a while ago. "Remained centered in a chaotic word" yes the tree can grow on concrete but it will never be as beautiful as a forest tree.

People in an industrilaized world just don't know how to manage it because they've lost all connection to humanity and nature. People who are in tune with nature/human nature function very well in the industrialized world. It's a matter of what each person values and set out to make that a priority. It's all up to the individual. It's easy to blame it on external things, but really, you are the one in full control of what you chose to participate in.

What we often overlook is what is noticing the stress. When we have frustrations, stress, emotions and thoughts, there is an immediacy to them. Our sense of self claims it, or thinks it is frustrated etc... but you are not. Frustration arises in your awareness but you are what is aware. And that is not frustrated or stressed. And when we look to what is aware rather than what it is aware of the immediacy goes, space is found, and calmness is known.

Please, when you do subtitles, insert more words at each line. In my opinion, those 2 or 3 words changing quickly create a really disturbing experience. And subtitles of 1 word at a time can only create anxiety in my opinion.

This UA-cam guy proves a popular saying, "A dead Indian can make a fool out of a living American." He should spend more time in India and visit more places. You sit in a bus station and have a conversation with a nice and kind looking Indian and minutes later when you try to buy your bus ticket, you'll know that you lost your wallet a while ago. That's my own experience with India.
