Your diagnostic process is In valuable, charge appropriately.
This is one of those cars that I spend more time on and not making much money on.
Like my Jetta, there's likely a fan control module and a temperature sensor downstream from the relay that's setting the fan speeds and turning them on and off. I fired the parts cannon at mine though. New rad, thermostat, fans/shroud, both temperature sensors, fan control module and a bunch of hoses and plastic manifolds. A month later I'm losing coolant but only when warmed up and not all the time. Couldn't find any drips when I parked on clean cardboard or the snow, it wasn't getting into the oil and it wasn't smoking white. Turned out to be yet another crappy plastic "Heater core hose coupler flange", so I replaced the hoses and both flanges. The water pump, timing belt, seals and tensioner are getting done next weekend. The only part left of the cooling system that won't be new is the heater core. If that thing springs a leak i'm driving the ole Jetta off a cliff.
What's that relay tool at 5:52?
Jonathan you were NOT wrong @ 12:12 , that is indeed the egr pipe that connects to the manifold.
On the issue with the fan, this car gets input from the coolant temp and vehicle speed sensor to the ECM/PCM which then uses a "fan controller" to determine fan on/off and speed. The broken radiator is not helping and may be introducing an air pocket.
Thank you for all this info. If you ask me that's a overly complicated system just to control the fan ...
Best thing for that car is a for sale sign. Holy balls man you can get a 20 year old civic for what he spent on that motor swap prolly
No matter how much I fix on it....I'm like ,this thing is still a money pit. Definitely something I would have bought when I was a young teenager. Not knowing any better lol
True have not seen a eclipse for awhile
Yeah they things are pretty much extinct , this one in particular needs much more work than a Teenager can afford
Nice car....needs love ❤
Needs lots of love ... most of these repairs and emissions driven
Nice car and job well done
It's rough around the edges , the owner is trying to make it work. I'm not sure it's worth it
Man that car needs so much work how is he still driving it with an overheating like that?
I would replace that radiator immediately and then look into the intermittent issue with the cooling fans.
I have no idea how this engine hasn't given up the ghost yet. I would definitely fix the over heating issue before anything but passing emissions testing has got the owner in a head lock.
@@themechanic6117 yeah the priorities seem to be ass backwards on this one 🤣
He needs to take that back where they installed the engine. Does he have a warranty?
That battery is from 5/24. It’s only March, is that battery a time traveler 🤔
Nice car need cooling fans sounds they get too hot and stop working
Yeah there's something fishy about them. They don't always turn on when commanded and when they do turn on they turn off shorty after
@themechanic6117 I had cooling fans on my civic that will do that somethings I changed everything temp relay etc.. I changed the fans and I was good
Let's see if it ever comes back for the over heating issue
@@themechanic6117 yup be safe
I see you finally got the jnc jumpack i recommended. How do you like it so far? Im suprised theat you even took on this car since you decided to be done with owners who didnt want to do recommended repairs.
It has been bullet proof! Hasn't let me down yet 💪 my old jump starter only worked 20% of the time. The owner is a younger guy so he doesn't have a lot of cash. Unfortunately emissions testing has him by the neck and he focusing on turning off the check engine light
How do you charge for separate issues like this. Do you just give them 1 price or is each diagnosis separate?
It depends. On this car I just charged one price and tried to look at any issues that was related to codes. Nothing is set in stone with me. If I see someone is really pressed for cash I'm pretty lenient with them. If someone has a clunking noise up front / check engine light / trunk won't open then I'd separate those 3 things as separate diags
That's a good strategy 😊
Should have been bumping that "2 fast 2 furious" soundtrack.😂
This car is the definition of " fast and furious " 🤣
