    The opening is so clasdic!
    I lost count of how many times I have been guillotined by my 1999 Toyota Solara and its shot hood-struts failing....followed by the vice grips around the shaft of the stuts coming loose...

    I laughed when you mentioned the cam because I was thinking the same thing. But you are 💯 percent correct, why do that to an old motor with those miles. Maybe down the line when it’s time to rebuild the motor you can put in a nice cam. I think I would go with a stage 3 instead of a stage 2 BTR. I own 2 nbs trucks, if you’re going to install headers don’t waste your time installing shorty headers.

    • @CheeHooGarage
      @CheeHooGarage  3 роки тому +1

      Right? If I was guaranteed 100k more miles I would definitely swap the cam. And I hear you on the shortys. Long tubes on the way.

    I have this same issue leaking down the back of my block. I was hoping it would be a easier fix, but I think I’ll be pulling my heads her soon. I hate to see my truck sit.

    Hello, I have a 1995 GMC Sierra 1500 with a 350 5.7. I first noticed white smoke existed the tail pipes when I first crank up only. Next I started noticing low coolant levels, about once a week with no external leaks and good pressure build up on cooling systems. Could this be my intake gasket? Or just head gasket?

    • @CheeHooGarage
      @CheeHooGarage  8 місяців тому +1

      Yes. Unlike the LS motors, coolant runs through the intake manifold on small block chevys

      @@CheeHooGarage Great, okay. Thank you so much. I guess my next step would be check the carbon dioxide in my coolant system to see if exoust is in it or check my plugs?

    Brother you’ve eased some of my fears…if I were to just change the head gasket from the side it’s leaking would that stop the leak. It’s leaking around valve 5/7. Is it absolutely mandatory to take the head to a machine shop. Would it cause me more issues if I just changed the gasket? There’s no smoke whatsoever, I recently change my oil, no water or coolant in the oil. Thanks for an awesome video💪🏿

      Let answer your Qs in order.
      1. We won't know for sure until you put everything back and pressure test or run it.
      2. Not mandatory, there are vids of people doing "head jobs" in their garage
      3. High possibility. Due to the heads being aluminum, and with high mileage (I'm assuming) there are possibilities of slight warping. At bear minimum, you want the heads to be resurfaced to ensure flatness. The block should be fine because it's steel, and it takes a lot more abuse to warp that.
      The way I did or what almost all shops are going to quote you for is so that in a few months you aren't coming back. All the questions you asked are going to be addressed, and give you a warm and fuzzy that your top half is good to go for another 100k. And I would recommend always doing both sides.
