Great video Micael, I always recommend finding a used Olympus E-M1 MKII and M.Zuiko 60mm to those looking to give M43 a try. It has all the bracketing/stacking capabilities at a fraction of the cost of the newest OM SYSTEM gear. I would probably still be using mine if I wasn’t picked up as an ambassador. Cheers!
@@MicaelWidellmy pleasure! Love your content because it’s always very straight forward with no hidden agendas, unlike me, who is trying to get everyone on OM SYSTEM 😂
Hi Micael, I use the EM-1 Mark II for most of my macro and wildlife. I understand you're already covered with Sony for everyday photography, but if you ever expand into MFT lenses a little more, I recommend the Olympus 40-150 2.8 pro with the teleconverter. It can be had used for $900 and is really light for being full metal. For macro people on a budget, I recommend a mini softbox you can find on B&H photo + plain white diffuser together for just $18.
Thanks for sharing your setup Michael! In order to get even closer I'd give the TC-20 a try in combination with the 90mm OM macro. I use the TC-14 for a little bit more magnification. Honestly I do not know how the TC-20 performs. Keep on having fun and creating great macro photos 👍
Awesome video. Great to watch. I've been using the laowa 60mm and the 25mm for little bit over the winter and can't wait to get going in properly this year. I've just upgraded to the canon eos90d. I didn't want to go mirrorless just you as I like the old ways 😂 I've only really used single shots as haven't got into the stacking side or real editing side of things yet but will experiment more going forward. Thanks for the great vids and I just wanna say how great your Instagram is aswell.
I’ve discovered macro with my Sony A1 and 90mm macro lens and results were very good and inspiring , so I wanna go deeper and search on YT some advices. First I saw Jamie Spensley Channel and was amazed by the quality of his photos and the apparent ease to obtain them, thanks to the Olympus system. So I sold my Sony 90mm lens and have just bought an OM1 with the 60mm. My motivations were to have a better DOF with a 2x equivalent magnification compared to the FF, in order to make iris photography. But I discovered also your channel and continued to learn a lot, notably the extraordinary quality of Laowa lenses. So before I take time to practice with my OM1, I decided to buy the Laowa 90mm for my Sony A1. I will receive it tomorrow. My goal is to compare the 2 systems, and I am not sure to keep the OM1 because I think it is better to stay with bodies of the same brand for economic reason and I will not leave Sony . Regarding focus stacking, I didn’t test yet with my OM1, but I am perplexed. My current technique is to be on manual focus and take photos in burst mode during a slight movement. Focus stacking (when required) is done in post production. I have the idea to test a continuous light (jjc arm light) ; this would allow me to take the burst with very little time between each photo, which should increase the success rate for our insects which do not want to stay still or when the wind blows through the leaves. Any feedback on such light solution ? Other advantages are the low price (45 euros), the light weight, the possibility to place your light where you want (great for mushrooms for instance), so very close to the subject to avoid hard spot light. Ping pong balls could be used as a diffuser.
I have tried continuous LED light for macro photography but I didn’t like the experience that much. I still very much prefer a flash because it will freeze the action and provide more light, as well as a lower weight. I made a video about LED light for macro photography, please search for it to hear me talk more about this topic.
EM-1 Mkll and Mklll all can do focus stacking. The last firmware for the EM-1 original can also do it, but so far I've found that it's super slow, there is so much camera shake due to the delay that the stacks all fail when shooting handheld.
I switched from the Peak Design Slide to the Blackrapid Sport and it's a night and day difference! My camera feels so much lighter and I can bring it up to shoot in an instant (wildlife shooter) without it dragging or getting hung up on anything and everything. It's a bit more expensive, but it was well worth it the first time I used it.
For snacks I would recomend you look up Chikkis(generally made from nuts and caramalized jaggery), they are perfect for long hikes and compared to baked breads/biscuits much healthier(when consumed in small quantity).
Very useful information thank you for the video. I am using nikon 8-9 camera for for wildlife photography. I am planning to buy nikkor s mc 105 lens ,,please give your thoughts on it. Appreciated
Hey Micael! Love the videos as usual. I just ordered a Cygnustech diffuser for my Canon RF 100 macro. I was just wondering why you prefer to use the AK diffuser for your 90 mm OM macro? I am debating also getting an AK diffuser, love that the newer ones fold flat now
Honestly I don't think it matters that much which one you pick. They have similar price and give very similar results. I happen to use the AK these days because I got one that fits the 90mm perfectly for free.
The Olympus OM-1, E-M1X, E-M1MKIII, E-M1MKII all have focus stacking with max 15 frames. The Olympus OM-5, E-M5 MKIII, E-M5 MKII and E-M1, all have focus stacking with max 8 frames.
sorry Michael, I have more questions. Do you use the Good V350 with the OLY 90 mm? Or a bigger one? Brendan recommend for his diffuser for the 90 mm the good V860 III. I saw, that the ak diffusor is not so expensive.
Weird how when Shooting the TINY, So Much Bulky Gear is Needed for Great Results. Where’s your Bellows? Would be Great to have a Pocket Sized Point and Shoot 📸 Specifically Designed for Macro. Merry Christmas 🎄
I have a Canon EOS R full frame camera and use the RF 100 macro lens. Would I be loosing image quality if I switched over to the OM system? It sounds great but I worry about the switch to less than full frame. Thanks Micael for all you do! Great videos!!!!
Hi Micael, is there a HSS function on the Meike 320? I saw some photographs were able to capture at shutter speed higher than their camera Max sync speed with this flash so I am curious if the version I got is older or some user error. I did find one on mine and I am capped at my 1/160 shutter speed (a6700)
I am not sure if it supports HSS. I never felt the need to use HSS. 1/160 s is plenty for macro photography with a flash, since the flash is very very fast (1/20 000 s) and will stand for most of the light - the flash will freeze the action regardless of shutter speed.
I have seen a camera bag where the lid opens away from the body, at the same time when the lid is open it forms as a secure table for gear, but I do not remember the brand name, do anyone here know the brand ?
Regarding Raynox, people have to be careful, because there were stories that sun went through Raynox glass into 60mm lens and burned it from inside. So be aware!

But your photos speak for themselves!
Could I ask, it's specs seem pretty similar to the om-5, what would I be missing out on if I went for the m-e1 over the om-5?
You’ve done a lot of macro photography videos which taught me a lot. Thank you.

Yeah that is probably one of the very best lenses for MFT. I actually owned it. But didn't use it that much. And now I have the 200-600 for Sony.
@@MicaelWidell ah, I see. Heard really good things about the 200-600 for Sony. Happy shooting and enjoyed your macro work this year.

Interesting with the sensor cleaning. I use Olympus cameras, and I never felt I needed to clean it. I guess I have to check the sensors of my cameras.
I have found that Sony full frame for some reason give me the most dust problems. Never had issues on Olympus so far

Didn't try it but the OM system TG series with the macro adapter may offer this. They have a lens adapter and special ring light for this tough camera

You lose megapixels and dynamic range, but you gain the ability to do automated focus stacks and get a lot deeper depth of field
