    Thank you for this video! I have a G502 where the mouse wheel wasn't free spinning very well (would come to a stop shortly after flicking it). This video helped me take it apart enough to find lint/stuff wedged in the bottom of the clear plastic housing the mouse wheel sits in. Pried one side of it apart with a small screwdriver while carefully shoving a small strip of paper towel (cut with a scissors to size) soaked with isopropyl in there to grab it and pull it out. Now that thing spins like brand new AND the mouse still works!
    Tip: Use this video to identify where the screw holes are in the skates under the mouse. Use an X-acto knife or similar sharp (but small) blade to poke INTO the screw holes, then carefully cut the skate material away (in a circle) running the blade at a slight angle to the screw hole. You'll get access to the screws without having to remove the entire skate or needing to replace them. The missing skate material (small circles) over each screw hole shouldn't affect glide. At least I couldn't tell a difference when I was done. Oh, DO NOT stab into the center one in-line with the cord. Heh, I made that mistake watching this at first thinking there was a screw hole. Luckily I didn't cut into the mouse cord in there.

      Had the exact same issue, after 5 years it just stopped wanting to spin. I tried using canned air along the edge of the wheel to get inside but it would only last for a day lol. There was a bunch of gunk up in the clear plastic well of my mouse as well. Kind of reminds me of the gunk that got clumped up on the old ball mice.

    My biggest problem with this mouse was the rubber gripping around the mouse in the back and on the side. When attempting to spudge the thing open, the rubber would just break away as if it was clay. Still, that is mostly a cosmetic problem and this mouse has been excellent for me over the years. I just have the issue where my mouse will randomly scroll up or down for seemingly no reason. Used your guide to pop it open and clean it, and now it seems to work well again. Thanks!

    Thanks. After tossing a glass of water over my G502 yesterday I dryed it with tissues for some hours. Later that evening I used it again and the mouse wheel was buggy. It went away, so I thought it is fine. Today one of the extra buttons was permanently pressed and then it was broken completely. I hammered it for like 100 times.
    Then I decided to clean it following your guide, which I finished 10 minutes ago. Before I put it back together I tested if the switch is still working and it was. With that in mind I put it back together after getting some hairs and a small feather out of it and boom it is working fine again.
    Great!

    Great video - thanks so much for posting! A little extra intel after I soldered in a new left button microswitch: the two microsprings go under the clear plastic spinner mount - you can see two little wells where they settle into. This gives the wheel a bit of spring. Magical!

    Well, this helped me take the mouse apart and confirm that the left click switch is actually bad, not just dirty. It seems after 5 years, either the little Omron switch or the "pad" on the left click button that contacts the switch has worn down enough to remain flaky. It seems like placing a thin layer of a durable material over either surface would solve the problem. But I worry about it wearing or producing dust that would interfere.

    • @Purkkaviritys
      @Purkkaviritys  10 місяців тому

      you can certainly do that, I would just swap the switch.

    the biggest problem I was having was that the center button for the scroll wheel would still work but would not click so with the help of this video i was able to figure out how to fix the button. Thank You!!!!!!
    Edit: The reason the mouse skates came off without the glue is because there is a small gap that you can insert a pry tool into under the glue to take the skates off

    Nice tut but I have a G502 wireless which has a few additional steps which I could not move forward on until I understand the mechanism, it's a flat cable being held firmly onto PCB's there's 2 of them and they are not like your typical phone connectors. To make it more difficult there is some sticky film on the actual joints. But I did manage to get the mouse working for now so I best get another cheaper one because you will never use the dpi on high

    This mouse has pads that are kinda hard to reuse but I was able to reuse them by using a weak glue (will be easier next time).
    Also, unless I need impact resistance, it doesn't need all the screws, so I refrained from reattaching the screw under the tinny pad.
    The other pads can be just minimally opened just enough to reach the screw. That's how I did with the other pads.

    • @charleshines8523
      @charleshines8523 2 роки тому +2

      They always come off sooner or later. I also wish they didn't use rubber that turns disgusting with age. If you ever had tools with rubber on the grips, it is the same stuff. There must be something longer lasting they could use!!

    • @Purkkaviritys
      @Purkkaviritys  Рік тому +1

      yes, they are on the right and left side of the wheel inside, and they work by counting the number of times the spokes of the wheel cut light and bring it back again (wheel sensor led light and a light sensor), so if there is debris in the wheel they tend to stop working until the wheel spokes have been cleaned.

      @@Purkkaviritys I really wasn't able to remove the top screws. It was weird because I had never opened the G502 it and I bought it brand new. Maybe it was a batch that came like that unfortunatelly. I had to do some trick with a clip, a piece of thin cloth and some alcohol to be able to get the scroll to work again as dirt was blocking the light of the rotation mechanism. I also had to purchase new skates as it had the same problem as in your video. It's almost 6 years old mouse still working nicely except by the scroll which got dirt. I think the older the mouse gets, the harder is to remove the skates without damaging them.

      sounds like issues with the usb cable, the cable itself could be either poorly attached or have breaks in it, you can try to move the cable around in different knots to see if that causes the mouse to get usb signal, if it does you know you will need to change the cable. at 11:35 you can see me removing the usb connector, that might also be loose, so check the connection.

      if you mean that there is no clicking when you scroll? in that case its not about the spring at all its about wether the scroll wheel is set to frictionless or indented mode,
      If you mean that you can't use middle mouse click, that means the scroll whell assembly is not positioned correctly as it will click even without the springs, the springs just help it return back up.

      sometimes the pats that push the microswitch can become worn so that they no longer press the switch and there is a possibility that the microswitch itself is dying, but thats all easy to test once you have the mouse open, just attach it to a compute nad press the buttons to see if they work or if its just the dirt and grime causing issues.

  • @normcfu

    Instead of peeling off the bottom pads, would it be better to just cut/drill holes in those pads where the holes are. Then we can just use the screwdriver through the holes. Of course, afterwards, those holes would collect dirt, but at least the pads would retain their original glue to the mouse.

    • @Purkkaviritys
      @Purkkaviritys  Рік тому

      that is a terrible idea, not only would it be difficult to do, the drilling would likely remove the pads anyway and you would likely damage the mouse, and considering that replacements cost like $5 its not worth it.
