Peacocks (and I’m talking about the males here) can make a scream that sounds like a human woman screaming in terror. I found this out when I was working as a security officer at night at a theme park that had many pea fowl. One night, I heard this bloodcurdling scream and thought for certain that someone was being attacked somewhere on the park property. I ran off in the direction of the screaming, determined to help the poor woman who I was convinced was being attacked.
Imagine my surprise when I arrived in front of the bird enclosure and saw one of the big males making the chilling screams. Absurd, right?

That sounds like a great beginning for a short horror story. I love it. Also that would be terrifying.

Animal Fact Files it was! I was there all alone except for all the animals, and I wasn’t about to let some poor woman get attacked on *my* watch! I was bound and determined to beat the stuffing out of some nasty little loser thug and help the woman.... and there was actually no thug and no woman. I ended up getting a much-needed laugh over it. The peacock that had caused all this fuss stood there staring at me as if he thought I had lost my mind. Expressive little beggars...

My friend's father owned several blue peacocks in McMinnville, TN. So when he says they're everywhere, he definitely means everywhere!

Love this. The Indian Peafowl is the National bird of India, so I feel a lot of connection to this.

My house used to have a pet peacock around because of the previous owners. Never knew what happened to it. I just thought it either flew away or got killed by a dog.

That's kind of a near thing to inherit, though odd. Wonder why they left it.
