Excellent video coming up on my first ahead-of-official-service-interval oil change! One note: please please please add jack stands when you’re lifting your car. Easy, cheap safety net 😊
Pull the pin, then pull the little drain plug. Otherwise, you’ll get a nice little splash of oil when you take off the housing. Yes, even on the hybrid.
You have to be an engineer to figure out how to change the oil on a new Kia. Cotter pins? Really? Plastic housing with a 24mm attaching nut. Really? What's wrong with a spin on filter as used on every other car in America? This is insane. If you break this plastic canister you're S.O.O.L. where do you get a new one. Crappy idea from the Land of the Rising Sun.
Good video...Just did my first oil change at 2,400 miles on my Santa Fe hybrid, basically the same set up and noticed a missing crush washer, I checked the pan and the plug but nothing, I guess they failed to install it at the factory, a little concerning.
Yeah, be careful, I thought the same thing. It was really “stuck” to the oil pan, took a small screwdriver to get it to “pry” off. So hopefully you don’t have two on there now.
I'm not sure where I originally found that spec, but it's pretty obvious when tight. It's a fairly large canister so 30ft lbs probably not that tight considering. I'm at 16K miles and 4th oil change so far. All has been perfect.
Thanks S.A.! Just what I wanted to see. I'll be doing the first oil change on my 23 in a month or so. Did you look at the condition of the old oil, besides the 64% life remaining?
So I have the 2024 kia sportage which is similar they just changed the way you drain the oil filter area. Question though, I just changed the oil and there is a bead of oil that runs down the side of the oil filter cover. It's not even enough to where it dripped in the driveway overnight, but still concerning. I cranked the oil filter down tight, I even removed it all replaced the rubber gasket and redid it all and still the same thing. Any ideas why this might be?
I used ramps, but there are 4 pinch weld jack points on the body just below doors. a pinch weld adapter is handy to use with a floor jack. larger pad jacks work better than the cheapest ones with a small cup. (I have Sorento hybrid but it was exactly the same as this video) you can jack under front suspension arms too, and lower vehicle onto jack stands under each front pinch weld. never use a jack by itself, and make sure you chock your other wheels.

You're supposed to pull the pin before removing the filter housing.
I guess you could do that? There is no benefit to doing it earlier vs later.. as it doesn’t leak/release any fluid on the hybrid models.

Very informative video. Do you happen to know were the service port to add transmission fluid 2023 kia sportage hybrid lx awd?

@@SCCAForums Thanks, 100% certain it wasn't on the pan, drove myself nuts examining it.
The torque on the oil cannister is 30 ft lbs? It sure seems tight.

I didn't look at the condition other than 'visually' it still looked great.
did you notice any particles in the oil from the "break in" period ?
