It's really awesome to hear stories like Corey's. A lot of people in these kind of interviews/spotlights talk about their disc golf game, but it's a good balance to hear about their personal lives. It hits harder when someone like Corey can really be open about stuff like alcoholism.
Bravo Corey Ellis for having the courage to tell his story. He could’ve talked about something else. Instead, he gave everyone a master tip. Alcohol kills your mental game and not just when you’re actively getting drunk. Quit drinking and watch the brain fog vanish. Want to take strokes off your game? Stop drinking and watch it happen, men. As a former alcoholic, I agree with his message. Bravo, Corey. Bravo.
Debatable... but, Brian fog!? You think actively getting drunk = brain fog. Everyone goes through thier faze of being a alcoholic... we all turn 21 at some time !
@@JohnWayne-ec1gi “not just when you are actively getting drunk”. Alcohol abuse has lasting effects on your brain, even when you are sober. This isn’t rocket science. It can take a month of being sober to gain the brain clarity I am referring to. No need to get defensive. All I said is that quitting drinking can make you better at a sport. This is not new knowledge.
@@ObeyAndBePrey did I strike a nerve ? And you are telling me not to get defensive... !? "This is not new knowledge" nahh that's your opinion that quitting drinking makes you better at a sport. I wouldn't refer someone that just turned 21' ish and decided maybe drinking while playing golf isn't for them as a "master tip" ! now you are just insulting my intelligence, thinking that I don't know that abusing anything, like alcohol will fuck up your brain in long run.
Hell yeah, Corey. I want really familiar with him, but as a fellow person in recovery, he endeared himself to me. I'm just getting back into throwing this year after stepping away for five years of focus on sobriety, injuries, and surgeries, but my love for the sport never left.
@@babyeater89 yeah, they're very pokey. I do a lot of invasive management and the woodier stuff is a pain. Our local course has a ton of bush and vine honeysuckle, autumn olive, and multi flora rose. The shrubbery is what separates the fairways, so the city won't let us cut it out... Yet..
OMG - Thank you, thank you & thank you again! This is 2022, and disc golf coverage must be high-quality 1080p60 - with 60 actual frames per second. Not blocky, compressed, low-quality Wifi-streamed rubbish that is effectively 480p30 regurgitated as fake 1080p60. I'm looking at you, DGN! JomezPro has always understood very well that fans are much more interested in watching free-to-view delayed coverage produced to the highest standards possible, than to pay to watch eye-hurting low-quality garbage for hours on end.
Jomez commentary infinitely better with Nate Sexton. Jerm and Paul are great, but Nate is the best. Also, Corey has a new fan in me because of all he has overcome and because he is from WV.
I just recently started throwing a new putt, the grandpa putt. the set up for this putt takes years to master. first you must tell the same couple of stories for years. only at that point can you proceed to step two, after you get within circle 2 you start with one of your stories as your competition start looking at the ground or rolling their eyes, you kick your disc 5-10 feet closer. repeat if necessary.
Takes a tremendous amount of courage to admit you've had a problem with substance abuse, but it takes real strength to overcome your demon and make use of your platform to potentially help others. Like others have said, props on you Corey. I wish you all the best.
Recently starting recovery myself, I was encouraged to hear Corey's words. Disc Golf has helped me to avoid making the wrong choices and to give me mental clarity and balance.
Damn Jomez, why did you have to make me cry before the round, super intro with Corey and kudos to him for using his time to talk about something so personal and important ❤
I love the Idio shoes that Nate’s wearing. I’m waiting for those exact blue ones but all they list on their website are 3 variations of black. Are the blue ones for Nate only? A Nate sponsored color? Take my 💴 please!
The fact that Corey took his moment to be Honest, Open, and Willing about alcoholism, that it is part of who we are, takes some fortitude. However it can become a strength of character when embraced like Corey has.
I I do as well, plus i throw many stand stills on the tee and in the fairways. His form has helped me because of its similarity and no one questions the power he has. Wish I could putt like him!
Also @31:00 we cleared brush for Corey when we dodged his disc I pulled my chair right before it landed on the spot definitely didn't stomp some extra for him ;)
Best thing about these tournaments is the guys are competing against the course much more than each other. They all remain very friendly, helpful, and willing to give advice on shots to their "rivals". Great to see in a sport these days.
Just before I watched this and when I saw who was on the card, I was like, "Wow, how has there been no real intro segment, considering his performances last season, on Corey? Who is he really?" And there it was. Thanks so much for that window into who he is and considering what he shared, wow.
Loving that card.. Just watching Simon is a huge win already - maybe history's most likeable player in any sport. But it's also nice to see a true veteran in Nate and also Corey and Andrew were super interesting to watch. It's nice to get to know lesser known players and see new styles here and then.. This was a very nice mix, good job to all of the players!
Re: Simon's approach on 1, it didn't seem like he wanted anything to do with the dropoff behind the basket, looked (to me) like it was a layup. It was a long C2 look
Awesome coverage, but oh my. I would love nothing more than the Form Review to become a mainstay. That is so incredibly valuable for players looking to make the next step.
That form review is crazy. I dont know how he makes the disc come straight back into his hand let alone catch it flawlessly! Is that Nates signature boomerang disc?
You guys do a great job with the coverage of these tournaments! I'm 57 and, last year, became a disc golf fan. The problem is, my shoulders won't currently let me play. So this is my outlet.
I have to assume you're talking about Pro Tour ELITE events that Ricky and Simon are only two double winners? Dickerson has 2 Silver Series Events. With that said...if you are talking about ELITE events only...there's only so many of them so the fact that Ricky and Simon have two....sounds pretty standard.
Shout out to Kevin for editing an awesome commercial. I don't normally like commercials in general but that one was a pleasure to watch the whole way through. Great work, Kevin.
i used to be into disc golf when i was younger and lost interest due to my goals but now that im burnt out a bit on goals disc golf is calling my name.. such a wonderful sport!
Nate, I do sidearm and I have a running disability that rarely my other foot trips the other. So my question is there any easier X Cross Form I could look into.
I would like Cory Ellis to know there's a lot of people that struggle and alot that don't. So it's never the substance being used, it's always the person using and the way they emotionally and physically react to the substance. Alcohol is a depressant so if your prone to sad thoughts don't drink especially if you have an addictive personality, see how I said if you are prone to depression and addictive personality, that makes it subjective not objective

Stuck at home with Covid. This coverage is a life saver this weekend. Thanks guys 😀

Good on you Mr. Ellis. Chase everything you seek.
Corey new player?
Corey Ellis may have just become my favorite new disc golfer. I am 3 years sober from alcohol. It has completely changed my life for the best.
Post produced coverage is such an amazing way to consume the sport. If they did the same with ball golf it would blow up
Love the technical commentary from Nate this round. Great to have a player on the card also in the booth.
