Another enjoyable wander. The radio site at Somerton was some of the transmitters for Portishead Radio, which communicated with ships at sea all over the world by HF (high frequency). The operators and receiving aerials were at Highbridge and the morse code transmitters were at Portishead. It's a long time now since I was a ship's 'sparkie' and I have forgotten what the Somerton site was for, probably the ship to shore telephone channels.
Thank you so much Richard! That is a fabulous bit of background information of which I was not previously aware. I have pinned your comment to the top. Thanks for watching and commenting. It is very much appreciated! Take care, Paul.
Thank you so much Faith! Glad you enjoyed it. The music that I used was: ua-cam.com/video/-adAMcf4hNQ/v-deo.html and you can listen to the whole track there. Take care, Paul.
I know, it is a weird one, isn't it. Clearly it is a beautiful and friendly town, with so much history, but it seems to off the tourist trail, unlike Wells or Glastonbury. A true hidden gem! Take care, Paul.
Wonderful to see some of Wessex up close and personal with such a knowledgeable and courteous tour guide 💕💞💗 The church was so picturesque inside and out, and your choral accompaniment was exquisite. 🌹💖 Loved the Nave!!! ❤️🔥 The woodland path was so peaceful 💟 Thank you for the lovely short bite share Paul 🤗🤗🤗 God bless you 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Yes, it's strange, because I wasn't aware of anything that he had done outside of Cornwall and Essex. Thank you for watching Watto. Hope you guys are both well. Catch up with you both soon. Take care, Paul 👍🙂
Hello Paul - greetings from Poland. A lovely short bite video of a beautiful town. Congratulations on the photography, still shots and commentary. As always, your research comes up trumps with many very interesting historical and informative facts. Stay safe old friend. See you again soon.
I grew up in Somerton during the 50s and 60s. The viewing point is the viaduct crossing over the Cary river which you never saw. Behind Berry used to be called Behind Town. My late Father and Uncle had thatched barns further down the road. It is now called The Thatch. A small group of homes.
Thank you! It is strange that Somerton now has a lower profile in the County, but it was once the County Town of Somerset and gave it its name. Sadly, I only had a short time to film this and I wasn't able to film other parts of the town on this occasion. It seems a lovely town and one I would imagine that would be pleasant to grow up in. Cheers, Paul
Thank you Debs! Yes, a lovely town. It was a great day, unlike recently, which has prevented me from filming! Portishead - big fan here! 'Roads' is my favourite track of theirs. Take care, Paul.
Hi Paul, great new video. You always cover so much on your videos and your a man of so much knowledge. I take my hat off to you. Interesting that Marconi was in Somerton. The town looks very lovely. Great little video buddy 😊
Thank you Stephen and Yhana! Glad you liked it. Yes, someone has now proved more information about the Marconi link. I have now pinned their reply to the top. Thanks again, take care, Paul.
Thank you so much Louise! Sorry, for delay in replying; I didn't see some of the comments - YT didn't send me any alert notifications! Glad you liked the video. Yes, I had not been there before either. I had only read about it a few days previously. It is an odd one, because few people seem to go there, but it is such a beautiful little town snug in the centre of Somerset. Thanks again, take care, Paul.
Thank you! Surprisingly, for a former county town of Somerset, Somerton gets a bit overlooked by visitors. I really enjoyed my afternoon here. Cheers, and thanks for the sub. Paul
Hi John, good to hear from you. Hope that you are keeping well. Yes, the music used in the church sequence was by Dough Maxwell and called 'Lost in Prayer'. You can listen to the whole thing here: ua-cam.com/video/-adAMcf4hNQ/v-deo.html Take care, Paul

Please give the name of the composer and artists on the music that you added to Somerton Church.#
