I recommend that you try the Faber-Castell watercolour markers out on different papers. It makes a bigger difference than I expected. There are definitely papers you can dissolve them completely on.

Oh I definitely agree! I ended up trying them out on proper cold press watercolor paper and they became completely dissolved. 💙

@@ArtistJane I have these markers and somewhere in a pamphlet it says they do best on cellulose paper actually. It's odd.

I love the colors of your kitchen!

So gald to see you back on our UA-cam screens!!,My kitchen is exactly the same colours as yours!!!!.I tried the Talens sketchbooks myself a while ago and they don't hold up to much work, but the liitle one you use here, I have as a satch book for all my paints etc. They are perfect for that. I loved the drawing you creeated in the book. A sketchbook I use all the time is a range called "Enviro" by a company called Artway, they are made from recycled apers etc and have a lovely warm white colour and the covers are made from recycled wood pulp and the binding is recycled fabric too. They take a range of differnt media and these have been my go to sketchbooks for a while now. I also learned quite some time ago from another artist friend to draw my intital sketches in a blue or light red pencil or water colour pencil, it doesn't then muddy the colours as graphite/water slouable graphite does sometimes can I hope your back is okay now and I hope you are able to get some form of heating sorted out so you can return to your studio.Really happy to see you back and look forward to more of your brillianltly fun and inspiring videos. I think the talens sketchbooks are best just forencil sketching. Another brand of sketchbook work tryying are the Etcher sketchbooks and these are great for mixed media and they also make a watercolour sketchbook too.But I love my "Enviro' sketchbooks, you can get these on Amazon at a good price. I think using brighter more unconventional colours for the skintones really worked in the final piece, but when lifgr reflects of off the skin or is absorbed by it the skin does take on the colours around it,the impressionists often used unusual colours in their painting of skin tones, and another youtube artist I follow (don't know if you do too) Arlebean (Arleesha),paints amazing portraits and used really unusual colours to paint skin.Rembrandnt used to underpaint the skin in shades of green so when he put the skin tone colours over the top it made them more luminous, breaking with convention in portraits can result in really dymamic images. Stay safe and be inspired and long may you continue to inspire us with your fabulous videos.

@@ArtistJane It’s the one with the orange piece of paper around it ,it’s like a brownish orangey color if you get the softcover ,it’s the heavyweight paper not the extra heavyweight.

I love how this piece turned out with all the different colors. I do love Chris's work too, I didn't know she had a skillshare class though. I may have to check that out. I know I for one can't stay with just one medium all the time either. I have to have versatile sketchbooks, cause I can never make up my mind haha. It does keep it interesting though. I hope you are feeling better, I am glad you were able to get you a new computer so you can get back to doing videos. 💖

Thank you Melody! Good to see you again! Yea, I’m really excited to keep up with her classes. I love her use of color in those colored pencil sketches she does. It sounds like we are perfectly kindred spirits, and that the skipping around of mediums is for the right reasons! I feel like it helps keep things fresh and you can approach subject matters differently through different mediums. It all started when I went from pencils to watercolor. I’d used acrylics but I almost don’t like acrylics for detail work because 1) I’m not great at it and 2) there are easier mediums to work with for detailed work. I do love acrylics for pop art, different textures, a quick background, fun, etc but sometimes they make me wanna scream with how fast they dry. I love oils though; I just don’t have a very well ventilated studio unless the weather is nice.

It’s super great for sketching in the mornings or evenings when you may not want to create a larger portrait sketch, and is perfectly purse sized! So good to hear from you Michelle! I hope you’re doing well and if not, I hope you feel better! How’s your pain doingv

@@ArtistJane Thankfully this week we’re having a small break in the winter weather. It’s in the low 60’s right now and we’re thawing out the snow is starting to melt and that's GREAT! I’ll take it! It’s giving me a small little window of relief. ( Right before Spring hits with all the rain, I'm going to assume, but I'm not complaining 😉!)
I do like to have at least one 5x5 or 4X4 sized sketchbook (purse-sized) for taking with me to doctor appointments. Sometimes I swear I sit there in the waiting room for an eternity. It's the best place to draw people too. Just look around and start drawing. Most of the time I'll snap pics and then draw pics when I'm home because I have come across a few people in the past who didn't want to be drawn and they weren't very nice about it. They were just in the doctor's office looking to score pain meds and it was pretty obvious. They were paranoid of everyone. Made for an interesting visit that day. They weren't seen that day or any day after that.
      Take Care XOXO

    i've noticed several artist
    use a blending medium
    with their colored pencils.
is there a reason why you
    don't? you can continue to
    add layers even after the
    blending technique as long
    as you don't burnish the
paper. Glad to see you making
    more content. God bless

    • @ArtistJane
      @ArtistJane  3 роки тому +1

Thank you! 😃I decided not to blend this one because I love the look of the crosshatching colors. If I’m doing more realism, I’ll use odorless mineral spirits and a coloreless blending pencil. Sometimes I just like the “sketchy/unblended” look.
