Why do people want remakes instead of new games? What do we as customers and players gain from a rehash with modern wonders like microtransactions being inserted into them when we could have an entirely new game trying to not just replicate what made the previous one great but also build upon it.

This has reminded me of how much I’d love a modern revival of Bushido Blade and the Bloody Roar series. Specifically if they can stay faithful to the feel and mechanics of the originals.
Cheating a bit, I’d also kill for the combat racing genre as a whole to comeback. Jak-X, Rollcage, S.C.A.R.S, hell even Split/Second if we stretch definitions.

I honestly wonder what direction a thrill kill remake/reimagining would take. On one hand you could have a more comics-esque roster of criminals (think of stuff like spawn) or go very different shades of brutality from "there's still a layer of fantasy to it" akin to twisted metal black, or all the way to "we want to make you feel like taking a shower after playing this game" with 'murderbrawl' arenas akin to something taken out of manhunt 1.

If there’s a hidden gem that I think deserves a second chance, it would probably be Rule of Rose. One of the last titles to be released in the PS2’s life span, this Silent Hill-style game has earned a cult following for its dark and tragic story about the long-term affects of child abuse and bullying (particularly within the social care system). However, what caused the game to fall by the wayside was:
1.) The janky combat system being unfair and inconsistent (the developers admitted this was one element they wished they could fix).
2.) Rule of Rose becoming one of the biggest targets of video game moral panic during the 2000’s, thanks to European tabloids and politicians spreading lies about the game depicting scenes of graphic and sexual violence towards minors (even though most of them confessed to never playing it themselves). While the slander was eventually debunked, Rule of Rose’s reputation was permanently damaged by the time of its release.

Kingdom Under Fire Crusaders/Heroes from the original Xbox. Just remake them together since Heroes was essentially an expansion. RTS + Dynasty Warriors is a bread winning combo and the world needs to see it again.
Area 51 2005 from Midway. We need more middle shelf campy shooters today and this games set pieces would be awesome in Unreal 5

I played it as a kid and I played it as a cynical 27 year old. Loved it both times which is rare going back to games you played as a kid. I think Driver 1 and 2 could really use a remake. The 70's-aesthetic, car-based, undercover cop story games with realistic vehicle handling in the industry is sorely lacking. Driver San Francisco is pretty good, but it misses the mark on time setting and late-night movie grittiness.
And if I'm being super wishful, a remake of Driv3r. Despite the "alpha build" feel of the game; the maps, story, atmosphere, music, driving, and cinematography was top notch especially for the time

Oh yes, it's awesome to see T'ai Fu in here! Never played it, but it strongly had my interest for its mix of 3D fighter/beat-em-up and platforming, a combination i've rarely seen done before. Only really in Rayman 3 (to an extent), Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, Prince of Persia (though that's more of a hack-and-slash) and my absolute favourite, Kya: Dark Lineage.
That game is very solid in its own right, and I would personally directly put it in a list like this. I recommend to check it out for yourself, the moveset and combat gets quite in-depth. Though if you don't like platforming as much, you may find the other gameplay styles disrupting.
Also happy to see Heavenly Sword and Anarchy Reigns being mentioned here. It's heartening to hear that others do see the potential that game carries, so... that's just very nice.
Thanks for this video, man! it was quite interesting. Number of titles i've never heard of before either, and though they may not be up my alley, they're definitely interesting. Many games out there would benefit from a good second chance of some sort.

A couple games prime for the remake treatment would be Raw Danger and Disaster Report (both ps2 exclusives)
These games are weird badly imported Japanese survival horror games but instead of monsters/killers it’s natural disasters. You’re trying to escape a city as floods, earthquakes, storms, etc hammer the city. They’ve got so much charm and such great ideas but they were really pushing the PS2 as hard as it could go.

there are 2 games I can think of that I personally think badly need a remake. The first one is Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. It was so much fun in its broken state. Now that the NPC's can be enhanced, and the destruction can be turned up a notch I think it would be an incredible game. The second one I thought of is Red Steel 2. I loved playing that game. Now that we have the switch, I think it would be perfect to do all the motion game play, but adding controller support would be great.

If you mean Tai Lung (the snow leopard), i can see it more. Being bare-chested masters of multiple different styles. Heck, even their names are very similar :P
Regardless, it's nice to see people talking about T'ai Fu in general.

I would really love to see two games made by Epic Games (formerly Epic Megagames). These are "Jazz Jackrabbit 3" and "One Must Fall 2097"
Jazz Jackrabbit was a belloved IP on DOS. It was a platformer about a green rabbit, that was basically "Sonic with a gun". Jazz had an attitude, the platforming was fun, the guns were great, and I loved the levels. Also, we can't forget the banging music by Robert A. Allen. Jazz was a great game with an even better sequel, that expanded on everything, that made the first game great and even let you play as new characters. Also, the music for this one was compossed by the legendary Alexander Brandon. Then when it came time for a 3rd game, Epic wanted to switch Jazz to the third dimension. There was a pitch demo leaked not too long ago. Sadly, Jazz 3 never saw the light of day, since Jazz 2 sold poorly and Epic couldn't find a publisher, so they had to cancel it. Seeing the game realized would be great.
One Must Fall 2097 was a fighting game on DOS, where you took control of mechs. You would first choose a pilot (which would determine your stats) and then your combat mech. The mechs had cool designs, the whole game had this "anime-inspired" artstyle, the combat, while primitive by today's standards, was fun, the mechs were cool and had fun movesets, and you especially can't forget the amazing main theme made by Kenny Chou. These days, the game is very obscure, but it still has a small dedicated following. Some fans even did a source-port, that allows netplay and few updated features. Sadly, after it's sequel OMF: Battleground got a mixed reception, Epic never touched this series ever again. A modern remake of OMF: 2097 would probably be awesome, considering how far fighting games have come.
Unfortunately, if your name isn't Fortnite, Epic don't give a fuck about you, so these 2 things are really just wishful thinking, but who knows. With the comeback of obscure platformer mascots like Kao and Gex, and franchises like Armored Core and Mechwarrior keeping the interest in Mechs alive, who knows what might happen.

Abolutely loved Interstate '76, I grew up with the Vigilante 8 games but Interstate has also been my jam for a while now.
It would be cool to have a remake of the first game but knowing Activision they'd probably put a bunch of unexpirienced interns to make the game just like how they did with the remake of Vigilante 8, which only had about 3 of the 6 devs from the original game.
And as two fun facts: the soundtrack from Interstate '76 was made by a band called Bullmark and they used the same recording techniques, technology and instruments that were used by professionals back in the 70's for music albums, that's why the music sounds so authentic. Oh, and the character of Taurus was voiced by Greg Eagles and was one of his first acting roles before voicing Grimm in Billy & Mandy and Aku Aku in the recent Crash games, also by Activision oddly enough.

There is a game i played long ago with my deceased friend on the PS1 called "Frontschweine" (Front Pigs) in german. It was basically a Worms styled strategy game with pig armies in 3D. What differentiated it from Worms, was the far more darker tone befitting of an actual war game. The different armies were based on various countries with fitting voice sets, the areas were mined accordingly, so you had to watch your step and every unit had a different military assignment with according tools and weaponry. The games more humorous tone came from the fact that the units were pigs and from the one-liners the different nations spouted like:
"Confucius said: Let yourself be buried."
    "Des is for my momma!"
"When i said, you should get a cut of our enemy, i DIDN`T MEANT THAT LITERALLY!"

I doubt you're going to see this comment in a sea of other comments, but one series I'd love to see you delve into would be the Drakengard/NieR series(which, believe it or not, are connected lore-wise).
Drakengard is a PS2 action game that is rather clunky and repetitive, with a really bleak story that does a good job of deconstructing the glorification of mass slaughter present in games like Dynasty Warriors, and while the rest of the franchise never gets quite that bleak, it still never lets go of the desire to remind its players that just because you think you're doing what's right doesn't always mean you are.
As games, some are fine, some are great, but as an experience the franchise is unmatched, and I'd love to see you give the series the same treatment you've given series like God of War and Twisted Metal, because your content style is really fun to watch and I love hearing what you have to say.

Ten Video Games I personally believe Deserve a Remake or Remaster
    1. Drakengard: This gem, designed by Yoko Taro, is a fusion of RPG, flight-based action, and on-ground fighting mechanics that delivers a unique gaming experience. With a dark and fascinating storyline, Drakengard possesses immense potential to be remastered with new-age graphics, improved gameplay mechanics, and refined storytelling.
    2. Dark Cloud: This classic action RPG features robust city-building elements combined with real-time fighting, making it an extraordinary gaming product of its time. A remaster could enhance the game world, introduce deeper, multidimensional characters, and polish the combat system further to provide a modern take on this deserving RPG.
    3. Echo Night: Beyond: This unconventional survival horror game, set in a chilling lunar outpost, offered an immersive, atmospheric experience that set it apart from its contemporaries. A remake could capitalize on advances in VR technology, offering a terrifyingly realistic, immersive horror experience while preserving the game's original puzzle-based gameplay.
    4. Steambot Chronicles: This sandbox-styled action-adventure game's charm lies in its alternate history setting, mech battles, and player freedom. A remastered version can further its universe with improved mech customization, expanded in-game choices, and better graphical representation.
    5. Jade Cocoon: This unique RPG was popular in the late '90s for its compelling 'Man vs Nature' narrative, creature fusion system, and distinct visual style. A remaster could enhance the monster designs, offer a more dynamic ecosystem, and polish the story's environmental themes - bringing a fan favorite back into the limelight.
    6. Manhunt: Rockstar Games' controversial and brutal stealth-based survival horror title was notorious for its dark themes and intense violence. A remaster could better contextually frame its violent aesthetic, enhance its stealth mechanics, and refine the original's strong social commentary - creating a simultaneously thought-provoking and unnerving experience.
    7. Sudeki: This action RPG was well-loved for its colorful visuals, distinctive characters, and real-time combat. A remake could refine these elements - offering high-definition visuals, in-depth character development, and an engaging, fast-paced combat system that could rekindle old fans' nostalgia and draw in new players.
    8. Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks: This spin-off from the classic Mortal Kombat series offered a unique blend of adventure and fighting gameplay. A remaster could amplify the cinematic storytelling, refine the combat system, and introduce modern graphics - giving this iconic title a much-deserved upgrade.
    9. Resident Evil Outbreak: This spin-off was one of the earliest instances of online cooperative play in the survival horror genre. A remake could keep the original's cooperative mechanics but with modern features like voice chat, more dynamic environments, and smarter enemy AI, enhancing its tense, survival-focused gameplay.
    10. Treasures of the Deep: This undersea adventure title's unique setting and gameplay mechanics were its greatest strength. A remaster could enhance its underwater exploration with vibrant graphics, realistic underwater physics, and more interactive environments, creating a more immersive and adventurous underwater experience.
These ten games, all distinct in their identity, hold immense potential for modern remakes or remasters. From enhancing graphics and polishing gameplay mechanisms to refining story arcs and adding depth to characters, the possibilities of modern technology could elevate these classics to new heights, surely delighting both new and veteran gamers alike.

    • @NebLleb
      @NebLleb Рік тому

I was about to comment Drakengard, as well! In my opinion, Drakengard is probably Yoko Taro's most accessible game he directed (that isn't called Nier Automata): The concept of an action RPG that blends Musou-like on-foot gameplay with Ace Combat-inspired air sections has tons of potential to stand out in an age of Soulslikes and Western-developed games that tackled dark fantasy plots. A remake will do Drakengard justice, or at the very least a rebalanced remaster of Drakengard AND Drakengard 2 (2005). The gameplay is perfectly fine as is, but the rushed development shows as it's incredibly janky and frustrating on foot, and good in the air but a tad slow.
Another game I'd like to see remade is similar to Drakengard in its combination of gameplay styles: Shogo: Mobile Armor Division, an anime-inspired mecha action game-meets-Quake-like first person shooter with a fun setting, plot, sense of humour and again, perfectly fine gameplay let down by rushed development leading to jank, glitches and unbalanced on-foot sections. I do think Drakengard is definitely more likely to happen however.
EDIT: Oh, and Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero! On paper that game is good, but on paper it suffers from some of the worst controls I've ever played. A 3D reimagining of Mythologies: Sub-Zero, maybe as a spin-off of Mortal Kombat 1, would be much appreciated. That and Shaolin Monks, like you commented.

I am so happy to see somebody mention Sudeki. Fun and fine on its own, but there could be a lot more. Not necessarily in length, but in depth. Stuff that showcases more of the world, its characters, and fun secrets and sidequest.
The closest things i've ever played to Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks would be the Prince of Persia trilogy and something like Kya: Dark Lineage, for their mixes of platforming and in-depth combat. I suppose Maximo vs Army of Zin as well, by extent.
      All of them good games.

You should have mentioned that Thrill Kill’s plot, for those that don’t know - after all, it’s an unreleased title, has a plot that’s sort of like Twisted Metal but they also seem to just don’t use their own plot at all.
It’s supposed to be about people in hell who are trying to earn a wish to return to life, except their endings give you their…. Backstory as an ending? What could be done in a remake is turning these original endings into openings, and then give each character an ending where they get revived + a wish

If going with the "had to have played it" rule, if playing the demo counts. I'd suggest R.A.D Robot Alchemic Drive. It was a PS2 game by Sandlot, better know for the Earth Defense Force series. Best way I can describe it is that it was a Megazord sim in that you play as a normal person piloting a giant robot to fight alien creatures. The control scheme was very odd in that you controlled walking with the shoulder buttons and triggers to move each leg backwards or forwards, needing to alternate to properly walk. The analog sticks were used for the arms, depending on the movement causing different types of punches. There were 3 robots you could use. One that was high mobility but low power that could transform into a jet, one that was slow but powerful that transformed into a tank, and one that was a middle ground and instead of transforming changed into a more combat mode. As stated at the beginning I've only played the demo, but always had fun even if I could never win. It be interesting to see a modern take of this, including the odd control scheme.

I think Loaded should be remade and I can totally see how it would work if it came back. I can see it rocking out a visual style similar to the comic artwork done for the character design. That and the blood and gore just flying around like its Brutal Doom. That and maybe can have two guns to use and melee attacks like DMC or something of that nature.

Sure, some of them I can imagine getting a full-blown remake, but others I feel really need an HD remasters with some gameplay tweaks or just a re-release on modern consoles in order for people to have access to them officially.

Though TBP, if you asked me which game series/franchise needs a remake/reboot I’d say Bloody Roar because I miss Bloody Roar[namely 1-3 & Primal Fury/Extreme] and felt that it stood out from other fighting games at its time. And I’d love to see a remake and/or reboot with everyone brought back[except the newcomers from 4] and some brand new characters ala Killer Instinct 2013 but updated without going head onto into a brick wall like DOA6 did. But that would vary because we all know who owns the IP since Hudson Soft is no more. Though Konami could at least throw us a bone by rereleasing the first 3 and a half games on current systems[unless soundtrack issues] and Eighting is thankfully still around.

Atari's name was a confusing mess in the 90s as it was split between 2 entities: the Arcade division and the home division. The Arcade division was owned by midway believe it or not. So, Mace is in the hands of WBS...but they only focus on Mortal Kombat thanks to the failure of the Gauntlet reboot (and that Mace is a MK competitor, so you don't want to split your fanbase).
The Atari problem was so wild that as a part of modern Atari's lineage it was owned by Hasbro of all companies. Yes, THAT Hasbro, the current owners of...Power Rangers, the publisher of Monopoly, and owners of THAT Wizards of the Coast (D&D and Magic the Gathering). That Atari is more firmly interested in keeping the older arcade, 2600, and 7800 games in compilations...or making an HDMI compatible version of the 2600 that's compatible with 7800 era carts
