I'm guessing this interview was done in late 1978, when Rose had just announced his choice to leave the Reds via free agency, and went on a tour of cities looking to sign with. His tour included Kansas City, but he ended up with Philadelphia. He played there 5 years, including a World Series win in 1980 (his third), then played briefly with the then-Montreal Expos before coming back to the Reds in August 1984.
I’m guessing that Pete already knew the guy was from Philadelphia, and they tried to make it seem spontaneous… Would be too much of a coincidence otherwise.
"Modern Major League record 44-game hitting streak"? Uh, no, that's the modern NL mark. The MLB record is 56 straight games, set by Joe DiMaggio in 1941.
Here MLB is now "promoting gambling", it's ridiculous to keep Pete out of the hall. He'll go in one day but it'll be a shame if it's posthumously. Next class Pete, Garvey, Parker, Dwight Evans and Tommy John
Can SOMEONE in MLB PLEASE! give this human being, this MAN ( with faults and weaknesses and even an addictive personality) a BREAK already!!!???? Let the person WITHOUT Sin, cast the first stone!! PLEASE MLB, I am 65, this Man was the Greatest baseball field player, who reached Beyond his 100% God given potential by sheer DRIVE and EFFORT, than anyone I ever saw in my life. The Man has paid his dues. Give the Man a BREAK ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He agreed to the one year ban and then MLB changed it. But he should be out because for all we know he was betting along with others, like umps, etc. They could easily rig games and we really don’t know what he was doing.

Probably the greatest player to ever play the game.
Not even close.
4:12 incredible to listen to this in 2023! Thank you
I'd like to just sit by him and just have a glass of iced tea and just hear.Him talk this here and say how you're doing
The greatest hitter, as well as the best ambassador to baseball there ever will be. Period.
RIP Pete Rose 1941-2024🕊️
Rose would eat dirt to win
He does deserve to be in the Hall, no doubt. However, that hair Pete... I know it was the 70's but common...
No one had ears or foreheads in the 70's including me.
I lovecthe hairstyle!
First player ever to win the rookie of the year 16 years in a row.
Huh?
@@1981lashlarue 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Not really, it sounds like that the way the guy worded it when. Introducing Rose. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Well done
This was in the brief period he was away from the reds, up til August 1984
My Favorite Yankee Mickey Mantle went ahead and said " Take a look at Charlie Hustle . "
Like the hair 😂😂😂

Interesting take regarding having a Japanese player make their mark in MLB one day. Pete was a prophet!
Read "My Prison Without Bars". Petition the MLB Commissioner and end this tragedy.
Rose only admitted to betting on baseball after he found a way to make money with it
that hair was his mom giving him the bowl haircut
During the interview he knew the Phillies would be in his future
Hall... give it to him
One of the best ant guys you could ever interview in sports😊
Love the haircut!
Rose's helmet is insane.

I don't ever see that record being broke,5 games is hard enough to do let alone 56,
@@keeponrollin7922 _'..broken..'_
looks like Jimmy Conners.
Connors
Pete had a great Prince Valiant haircut.

At least put his hair in the hall

No, the ban was for life, as announced by Giamatti that day. He wasn't allowed to apply for reinstatement after one year, as is anyone under the rule.
lol haircut
Worse haircut ever!
I like it!
Some of the worst things he did never came out. Rose doesn't belong in the hall of fame
And you know this for certain, right?

It is one thing to be whacked by the ugly stick but something else to be horsewhipped by it. Wear a mask- over your entire face.
It was just his 70s haircut and fashion lol, he was a decent looking guy in the 80s
hair allll gone..
Now he a cue ball.
