I'm guessing this interview was done in late 1978, when Rose had just announced his choice to leave the Reds via free agency, and went on a tour of cities looking to sign with. His tour included Kansas City, but he ended up with Philadelphia. He played there 5 years, including a World Series win in 1980 (his third), then played briefly with the then-Montreal Expos before coming back to the Reds in August 1984.

I’m guessing that Pete already knew the guy was from Philadelphia, and they tried to make it seem spontaneous… Would be too much of a coincidence otherwise.

"Modern Major League record 44-game hitting streak"? Uh, no, that's the modern NL mark. The MLB record is 56 straight games, set by Joe DiMaggio in 1941.

Here MLB is now "promoting gambling", it's ridiculous to keep Pete out of the hall. He'll go in one day but it'll be a shame if it's posthumously.
Next class Pete, Garvey, Parker, Dwight Evans and Tommy John

He agreed to the one year ban and then MLB changed it. But he should be out because for all we know he was betting along with others, like umps, etc. They could easily rig games and we really don’t know what he was doing.

No, the ban was for life, as announced by Giamatti that day. He wasn't allowed to apply for reinstatement after one year, as is anyone under the rule.
