You said the exact reason why I did go to electronic ignition. The quality of new points is terrible. I used to change points once every ten years. Now they don't make it to the next oil change. I was on the road with my 60 John Deere and the hay rake when the damn thing quit and that was the final straw. Hell i think it runs way better anyway.
I love the Pertronix . In a good dist. you cant beat them . My 9N has one and its the best thing since sliced bread .If he wants fuel injection i can put it on for him SEE
loved the video, especially the listening to the stories. However, i am a fan of the electronic ignitions! I've always had trouble keeping the points good and finding a decent replacement set has made me a fan of the pertronix ignitions. First thing i do, when i get a tractor is rip the points and condenser out and replace with pertronix. It maybe just a personal preference because of getting "trash" points.
Okay I enjoyed your video. Your barn is pretty full. You might think about a little roof expansion in the near future 😂 yep you’re running out of flat surface to store your treasures. Thanks for sharing
Pertonix for Oliver's don't use that sleeve on the distributor like other model do. Look at your instructions it says so. I have the same thing on my 770 works fine. It picks up on the high spots on the shaft.
I put an electronic ignition in my Super 55 but thankfully I kept the stuff that I can put it back to points. Now that I got distributors figured out better I don't switch any of mine over
@@rosstheoliverman still bad at writing I was trying to ask if the distributor you used would be better than a Mallory because that is what is on my cousin's 1550 and parts are not cheap.
Like the old timmers story's
Matching coils laying around to the appropriate input voltage is an endeavor.
Sometimes you just gotta stick with it and it’ll work out
ASSUME! it happens to all of us!!!!!!
For a guy who didn't want to be on Camera, he sure shows up quite a bit, LOL
🤣
Great video got it running and found some goodies.

Interesting to see that external lube hose for the pilot bearing. Looks like a low hour tractor?

Nice tractor!
On the road again , like Willie Nelson!
That's one nice looking tractor, glad you got more treasures out of that trip.
Ross you're going to have to build a machine shed to store everything that way you can keep it nice and out of the weather
Great video Ross. You had a lot of trouble shooting to do. Great job getting it straightened out. Looking forward to part two. Thanks for sharing.
For some dumb chance I still watch ! 🍻
Stubborn tractor, but it’s a great feeling when they run. Nice view Ross.
Petronix is best used with a new distributor
Good job on the 1650 and look forward to seeing your treasures

would it be a good idea to replace the distributor on a 1550 with a Mallory distributor because when the Mallory needs parts it is a little expensive.
They don’t make the Mallory one anymore

What brand of distributor do you recommend?
I bale small square bales l call them woman bales small and light pay the same. Like the stories
Don't need a resistor with pertronix
👍👍👍👍👍
Do you own any tools other than pliers and and adjustable wrench
I’m guessing your not a fan of Mexican socket sets. 😊
