    good info. maybe you could consider some grid news. even as far as renewable installations and other supply stories. charging network updates, etc. great to have info on EVs, but what will make them more of a preferred option is the energy supply and convenience to power them.

      Yes, there are a few channels such as Network Architect Channel and News Coulomb monitoring rollout of charging stations. It would be great if you could tap into their detailed work and maybe summarize the latest developments from time to time.
      And periodic updates on the grid energy mix could also be very interesting. Extra work I know, but maybe worthwhile.

    Another great episode! Rivian's doing the right thing, problem solving and retooling. I'm familiar with CATL. I prefer car builders using their own proprietary equipment, problem is the domestics are too lazy to develop their own. Looking forward to next week's show.

      Large OEMs with significant ICE facility investment have a business model and shareholder dependence which can make them too brittle to bend quickly. It is tricky for them. Surely some leaders want to compete in this new race, but they would have to sever limbs to do so. Survival is not guaranteed. -Producer Tim

    Good stats on battery longevity to counter the naysayers! It's unfortunate that dealerships are digging in their heals. If they don't evolve quickly, they'll end up like typewriter manufacturers. The Silverado EV looks good, a vehicle my sister should consider for her horse ranch. Forgive me if I don't hold my breath for that 8/8 promise.

    • @MissGoElectric
      @MissGoElectric  5 місяців тому +2

      We dislike protectionist policies and support consumer choice and we know it's a matter of time until dealerships feel the pain of direct sales brands commanding a huge portion of their businesses.
      Silverado EV would be awesome for that! I am personally looking forward to the Sierra Denali EV, it's siblings as I think it will be the best option out of the Ultium trucks. But time will tell!
      I think the 8/8 event will happen.. what happens after that is the part where I won't hold my breath 🤣 v12 seems promising though!

    Would love to hear your predictions for what Rivian’s anticipated Entry trim for the R1T and R1S models will be.

    • @MissGoElectric
      @MissGoElectric  5 місяців тому +1

      There are many opportunities to build the same product for lower costs without changing the retail price. Margins must improve. That said, if Rivian wants to lower the price, a traditional suspension system, single motor, and lower quality interior trim could do the trick. We aren't sure if either would be worth the brand erosion. In the shadow of a new flagship R1X, there might be justification for fleet buyers to move down market with a new trim. -Producer Tim

    Since there is no specific Ultium "battery", per se, (it's just a Brand Name), which Ultium factory will be making the cylindrical cells that GM announced a while ago?

    I wonder what the current US President & Challenger will have to say about this American Automaker & others like GM, Stellantis, collaborating with their so called enemy "China", where they already said that they plan to increase tariffs and also, omit over time, any US Automaker from tax credit if they do not use NAFTA components, in this case, CATL, along with them not being built in US? As always, great video, keep up the great work. Much Respect, Cheers!

    Are the GM battery plants following through on the plan to build pouch cells? Seems strange with all the LG/pouch cell issues and the plan to soon switch to cylindrical cells. Will these factories be stranded assets in five years?

    • @MissGoElectric
      @MissGoElectric  5 місяців тому +2

      As we understand it, all Ultium packs contain pouch format NCMA chemistry cells. We suspect cylindrical cells will come in with a CATL partnership. We do not know if current factories will be retooled. -Producer Tim

    Notice, no NACS plug on new Silverado. It takes forever for OEM to make changes to there vehicles, so this is why they are way behind.

    • @MissGoElectric
      @MissGoElectric  5 місяців тому +1

      Manufacturing plans and the supply chain has been secured for a while so yes, it probably won't be until the next model year changes until they switch to NACS for this production.
      In this case it's not just one simple single part that they swap out, so it will take time.

    I want an EV but it is discouraging to me to see so many videos that I simply cannot afford. I want to see information about affordable EVs.

    • @MissGoElectric
      @MissGoElectric  5 місяців тому +2

      Last week and this week we featured several brand new EVs which are under $250/month. Those EVs sell for less than half o the price of a typical new gasoline vehicle. See the links in the video descriptions for details.
      For lower priced EVs, the used market is full of sub-$25k Teslas. A federal point-of-sale $4,000 incentive for EVs under 25k which are purchased from a dealership means there are many options including Model 3 for about $20k.

    • @sergiomessina2037
      @sergiomessina2037 5 місяців тому +2

      Just look for a used EV. You can buy a two-year-old Tesla for approx. $20,000. That's half the cost of the average selling price of a new car.

    Rivian is going to need to sell lots more vehicles in order to become profitable, possible but not a given. Eventually, the most profitable EV manufacturers will be making less expensive models. The problem is not as easy as it sounds, although GM takes it seriously. Part of Tesla's problem is Elon's political views, especially since he took over X, as competition continues to increase. I would like your prediction as to when, or whether Chinese manufacturers like BYD or NIO will be able to sell cars in the states.

    • @MissGoElectric
      @MissGoElectric  5 місяців тому

      Yes. Volume is the primary enabler to value. Economies of scale are the undisputed champion. BYD and Li Auto have shown us that, which is why we have covered them so heavily. We frequently emphasize the implications of Chinese EVs on this weekly broadcast

      @@MissGoElectricWith the coast to coast EV truck race, we saw the Lightning lagging a bit. The Silverado won, with massive batteries.
      Meanwhile, the Cybertruck and R1T came very close to the Silverado, but with much smaller batteries.
      It seems to make some sense that Ford would emphasize getting the latest battery tech in their next gen trucks.
      As it stands, the Lightning seems to be a big success with current owners. It's very well put together. But there is room for improvement in efficiency and battery tech.
