Laila was great but never the greatest, even in her own era, she's top 5 all time not number 1 on any boxing scale lets be honest. Also, her father lost 5 times, including a loss to Fraser in his prime, but still considered the greatest because he actually fought everyone. Great in her own right, earned her respect, but no comparison to her father at ALL. Even when talking about promotion, she never made women's boxing popular people only went to see her, and once she retired the sport died, until Clarissa. Many great fighters of her era are now forgotten, once again her fathers name is the reason we're still talking about her.

His natural speed enabled him to do things you'd say we're crazy. Look at him in the sixties moving backwards avoiding devastating punches by fractions of an inch. Against class opposition, too. So to see Laila here talking about how to overcome that movement with a feint is frankly just ridiculous. The evolution she speaks of is Bullshit. There are far fewer fighters now, and what they are is far less than what they were. In the fifties gyms were packed. The country still had dirt - poor families that coundn't afford TVs, refrigerators, etc. Boxing, like it was for the previous 3 generations, was seen as a way out. Therefore a young fighter had to come through more people with a wide variety of styles before he could gain prominence. Iow, he had to be a better fighter than today.
