    GREAT video. I grafted 7 varieties onto a mango stump from my tree that was blown over during the last hurricane (we had to cut it down since it was so heavy and on my neighbor's fence). I used this grafting technique on 5 scions. I am excited to see if I was successful in my 2nd attempt at grafting1

    Chris thanks for the great video. One more step that i personally do after i wrap graft with rubbber band is i cover my rubber band with buddy tape or parafilm. I am in Arizona so that extra step ensures my rubberband stays secure . I learned to do this because our harsh sun in the desert usually decays the rubber band more quickly. @ Dale you can use any rootstock to graft but 1. Make sure its healthy and well watered 2. Vigorous 3. Actively growing as you are grafting 4. Make sure you prep your scion as chris recommends. I graft my guava , orange and pomegranate ice using cleft graft and i have 90% success rate. Just practice with your other non fruiting trees...i learned from Chris' videos and lots of practice ...now its comes easily to me. You can do it!!

      @kittybunny, does rootstock need to be same type as the scion? Example can i use roots stock of a pear and my scion is mangoes

    • @nroytv
      @nroytv 2 роки тому +2

      @@SL-ur7vt no. You need them from the same family. Like pears and apples, orange and lime or lemon etc. In India sapodillas are grafted onto "khirni" rootstocks. Mangoes can only be grafted onto mangoes.

    Gr8 video… hope to seed progress video follow Ups.
    Also Chris… I know you will cover veneer/side grafts… I hope you can also cover bud grafting… maybe get Alex from Tropical Acres to demo.
    I also would like to know what you do to raise seeds to grafting size and beyond. Minerals, fertilizer, watering, humidity etc. we are working on SoCal sources of non refrigerated mango fruit for seeds. Cheers, John

    Great video! If I may, I’d suggest a close up showing the wedge and the incision in the rootstock.
    I would like to request a videos explaining what to do in case the grafting fails. Regraft, let rootstock recover or buy a plant from you? 😉
    Thank you for your awesome instructional videos!

    Since the most important thing is to make sure the cambiun layers made contact. Can the scion be inserted at an angle to make sure that the cabium will make contact in at least 2 different positions?

    Does one wrap the whole Scion including the bud on top? 🙏🙏 Thank you for great videos for beginners like myself

    Do you leave the tape on the scion even after it develops growth. I saw that plants can pierce through parafilm but I appreciate your expert opinion

    Hi Chris….. is it possible to graft a slightly bigger scion to a narrower rootstock?

  • @saltychristian2528

    Could you do the same thing with a root stock that's already Y'd? Or better yet could you top graft on both branches of the Y, or would you have to cut the Y off and graft right below where you cut it off from?

    Little late to the comments but would appreciate feedback from anyone so please @me.
    At what point can you either re-pot the grafted root stock or plant in the ground? I guess im actually asking when do know your graft has been successful so you can move forward with planting?

    I have tried grafting three times and failed all three times I have been using route stocks grown from Valencia pride mangoes. Can you use any type of mango seed grown to a seedling, to graft on to? Or is one type of ceiling better than another for grafting on to?

    • @nroytv
      @nroytv 2 роки тому

      Any seedling is ok. Make sure it is not dormant, unlike in apple grafting. Hot and humid climate works best.

    • @TrulyTropical
      @TrulyTropical  2 роки тому

      'Valencia Pride' is a fine rootstock, so that should work out fine. Grafting is a skill, so it does take practice. Good luck!

    Can u do the grafting the same for sugar apple?

    • @TrulyTropical
      @TrulyTropical  2 роки тому

      You can do that if you have leafy scions. The grafting for sugar apples is the same as Atemoya. You might check out Har's video ua-cam.com/video/QvSGk8Dyp9g/v-deo.html and there will also be an upcoming video with Har grafting a leafy annona scion.

    What temperatures do u want for mango grafting

    • @TrulyTropical
      @TrulyTropical  2 роки тому +1

      One of the main risks of grafting when it is too cold is that you can get flowers instead of leaves, which is generally not a good thing for success rates. For us, nighttime temperatures can dip into the 50s and we still have some success. Ideal temperatures are in the 70s- the trees are active, but it's not too hot.

    When do you take the plastic tape off the top part of the scion?

    • @TrulyTropical
      @TrulyTropical  2 роки тому

      With Buddy Tape, you don't have to take the tape off. The buds will push through the tape and the Buddy Tape will eventually dissolve. I often will take the tape off when the scion has mature growth on it (just because it looks better).
