    Two suggestions: (1) You have the startup step but miss the very important recovery step. (2) Do not bounce up and down too much. You will hurt your knees for sure if trained like this.

      What's the recovery step. Is he stepping back directly from the lunge the issue?

    Amazing video, very good quality. I have a question, most of the times you do not go too deep into the two back corners in the drill, but in real game situation the birdie usually goes deeper. So do you still use the same number of steps if you have to go deeper into the back corners? Cheers

    • @kowChan86
      @kowChan86  10 років тому +6

      Hi Martin,
      sorry for the late reply, the answer is yes, once you get used to the footwork, you can apply the same number with bigger footwork, the deeper the birdie goes, the wider footwork need to apply. That's the advantage of using the number as a rhythm, so you will have better control of moving around the court. Hope this helps. Cheers...

    Footwork isn’t something you can watch a video and instantly become the next momota or Axelsen.
    In singles, the frontcourt is more deadly than the backcourt. A well delivered drop shot, net shot, drive and clear are more effective and deadly than a smash. A clear to the backhand corner, a perfect drop shot to the front court and a perfect net play are the main weapon in singles. You need to be prepared for all kind of shot. If you are not prepared, don’t talk about footwork. You won’t even be able to react in time.
    A well delivered counter to a smash can be just as lethal as the smash itself. My coach always say to me....you need to be prepare for all kind of return the moment you hit the shuttlecock to the opponent side. If you do a lift, be prepared for a drop, clear and smash to any corners. If you are not prepared, you can forget the footwork.
    In conclusion, the best footwork for single is practice, practice and practice.

    why do you leap a little when moving toward the front right to get a net shot? wouldnt tht take away significant fraction of a second of that movement?
    is it even worth the push you get?

    Hey KCBadminton, I was just wondering, do you always have to scissor kick when you go to the back court? The thing is, scissor kicking propels your body forward, but what if the opponent just clears to you again? Could you just step back, using your core to hit the shuttle forward, then get ready for the next shot to move more efficiently?

  • @Wingu84
    @Wingu84 11 років тому +3

    A bit of advice, try not to bounce around so much. Your body center is moving up and down all the time in this clip. By lowering your lower back and keeping your body center in a straight line all the time while moving, you will gain more speed.

    Hi Mr Kowi may i ask if i do practice my badminton 6 coner footwork without badminton court it is ok ? because i have limited time go to badminton court practice. i know the step. I now put 6 shuttlecock on the 6 corner. i always do like that. You got any suggestion ? like practice how many time ? because i have basic badminton just want to improve my footwork to advance and competitive stage. Like Monday, Wednesday Thursday, Saturday and Sunday i always do some footwork 1 set i do 20 front 20 middle 20 back. 1 set 3 times. i do 3-4 set. You think ok with it if i want be more competitive~ ^^

    • @kowChan86
      @kowChan86  10 років тому +3

      Hi There,
      of course you can practice this footwork at your own house, garage, or room, as long as you have enough space to move around. The practice time and sets you mention are good. If you can have someone to feed you multishuttle drills, that will be great as well, that way you can apply your footwork at the same time practice your shot. if you want to compete for higher level, you need to spar with a better player, that way you can improve your game faster. Do you train in club or school?

    • @ecaaronwongsengtak1653

      kowChan86 Ya future will represent the company to play haha. Now i am college student so only play with college friend they are good. Now i no more training because i have limited time. Last time yes since i was 13 train until 18 then after i graduate from secondary school have no more training. I found my way of playing the ball not really sharp like last time. Got but my partner level still ok. he play control. Some day like Friday i will play with Seinor uncle player. The way of senior playing is play patient very hard to smash and test my stamina~ If i do like last part of ur video which mean i use the shuttle drill let my partner get different corner it is ok ? need do how many set and how many time per set (for shuttle drill) because my partner also want to play single player. He is my junior college. Can give some advice Coach~ thx ^^

      James Cook Hi there,
      yes, you still can use scissor jump for the right side of the court, as long as the shuttlecock is in front of your body, or above your head, you can use scissor jump. :)

    Hello ! In my opinion your split step is missing ! You do the first step by changing direction, but when you are playing against a real opponent this cannot work. Your split step must be neutral, not choosing direction, because you don't know where the shuttle is going. It looks as if you choose where you are going when you are in the air when the opponent hits, which is completely impossible. You must change direction after the first split step and not at the same moment. Good teaching for the rest of the footwork, but this with the split step is confusing for beginners I think.
