Those are the right questions, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Let me show you how to inspect an engine in ten minutes or less with simple hand tools. My inside voice always screams happy when i see a notification for your newest video. I usually learn something every time i watch. Thanks
You’re a prince ☺️
Another great video, Thub! These informational break downs are very helpful. Keep doing the thing...
I will, thank you!
I find your videos to be very well done, with valuable content. You add to the presentation with your knowledge, personality, humor, and talent with making effective, enjoyable videos on scrapping. The quality of these videos is high! Corporate will be coming for you! Resist, Resist!!!
Thank you so much! I’m trying my best with these so I really appreciate the encouragement 💙 glad to know they’re enjoyable! I learn a lot as I go so it’s been really fun. Thanks again, and all the best!
just found your channel thru the sticky post on /r/scrapmetal. as an aspiring scrapper, this was an instant sub. nice to have someone doing scrap vids who isn't, well, a stereotypical scrapper (no diss to those who fit the bill, they just tend not to be internet savvy folks! lol) thanks for making these vids!
Thanks so much! I don’t know who posted it there but I’m really glad people have found it useful :) Scrapping is great and has gotten me through some pretty lean months so it’s dear to my heart. I love making videos though 😁 I’ll keep doing them the best I can. let me know if there’s a scrap subject you’d like an informative video on!
great video!!
👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 Good video thanks for the Tip 💪🏾💰💰💰
Those helping hands are useful - need to get some of those. lol!
Honestly bud, best tool in the garage by far 👌👌😎
Hello from Germany! Great video as always, thanks! Actually there's a 5th option, especially if you're not sure about the engine's condition, and you don't want to risk selling something which will give up its spirit after a couple months..
Disassemble the engine and keep the engine block and the pistons. Send them in for a sandblasting for about 50 euro/bucks. Buy a glass for about 20 euro/bucks and make an engine coffee-table out of it! I've sold a 4-cylinder a month ago for 150 euro and a VR6 for another 250. If you get yourself a V8 its value could easily reach 350, or even up to 700-800 depending on the level of detail, LEDs lights you might want to install on it, etc.
One point of attention is that only the aluminium blocks are rust-free (and very light); the other ones need to be sprayed over so that they won't rust due to atmosphere moisture.
Take care and keep up the great work :)
That’s an excellent idea, I’d love to see that sometime! A real heavy table tho, lol. Hope you do real well with em!
What about for marine engines? And cam you send me some pics?😊
@@goldstandardmarketing3866 the charm of the engine coffee table is the cylinder block which is open to see. Then the more cylinders the more impressive it looks. The marine engine interior (because outside is just plastic) isn’t as impressive to look at. It’s just a bunch of small components in comparison to a car engine. So i wouldn’t say a marine engine would make a good coffee table. That being said, one‘s imagination can be limitless and do impressive things using simple stuff ;-)
Best of luck!
Holy crap that is quite depressing, for something that costs 1000s upon 1000s of dollars to the retail consumer when new....at end of life....$12.50. Puts things in perspective.
I'm glad to see the sheriff is doing well
Loved the little lawnmower nugget you dropped.
😆
Hi how are you
How are you doing today
@@dericknorman7037 ?
@@mollynakamori where are you from?
Youre providing a lot of value brother, keep it up!
I appreciate that bud! I’m learning things all the time about what to do with stuff like this, and I’m always excited to have something to share 😊
Nice video Thub! Your knowledge of car engines and transmissions is expert level. Are you a mechanic by chance?
Oh there’s still a massive gap between myself and an *expert*, but thank you very much! I’m just a tinkerer, i enjoy working on my stuff. I owe all my vehicle knowledge to my friend David though, he’s helped me with most of my more challenging vehicle projects and I learned a lot through him!
Personally I would disassemble it just because I find it quite entertaining thing to do
And take the good part to sell to
Agreed! You can ad a lot of value by separating from the car and engine. Last one I pulled at Pick A Part was an hour of work on gravel and ran about 100 Dollars US. Would have loved to find one then, that I could have talked to the owner for 90 CA.. 😉 🏴☠
I get 60 cents a pound for engines/transmissions right outside of Atlanta
I'm thinking of parting out my car when its at the end ofnits life. It's a 2008 chevy malibu. 240k kms on it and I love it. I'm thinking of selling as much as I can. But I think I'll just donate the engine to the local college so other students can learn from it.
Does this count for boat motors as well some maybe fiberglass and it's hard to tell the difference
The scrapping whole part? Tbh I’ve never had an outboard for scrap so I’m not sure, they’d probably classify it as “heavy dirty” or something but it would still count. Definitely try sell those first though, even in “needs work” condition those can be money
Thub I live in nova Scotia and I was wondering if I should take bottles to a bottle Depot or a scrap yard
You for sure will get more for recycling water bottles/aluminum cans. In Oregon it’s $.010 a can/bottle.
Well I don’t know what deposits are like in NS but I’d bet the bottle depot is much better
@@thubprint Becarful with that crossing state lines in the usa for that will get you hemed up if caught. But never heard of any one getting caught thou
The price is 5 cents for cans and 10 cents per bottle at a bottle Depot
@@makincash3337 yup, our tire “disposale” guys are just some dude in a u haul. We pay 3$ a piece I think for them to be disposed. They probably drive out of state an dump them. Or go to the mountain and dump where no one is.
12.39 that covers gas. Good job
All the more reason to sell them!
👍👍
😁
😎
Great video! I was thinking the moment I saw the engine and transmission it was a 96-00 non vtech. Many people want that transmission it gets better gas mileage many people convert auto cars to Manuel also note that the flywheel and the bolts holding the pressure plate and clutch are needed to do the conversion. Also the starter. Adding those with the listing would of increased the value of the transmission. 75-125$ for the transmission here in the states but the extras could of brought 175$ for it and the short block was scrap but there was a good harmonic balancer you could of sold off the engine probably to Whomever bought the transmission
Welp, you know a whole bunch more about it than I do! 😂
That makes sense though, I’ve watched some auto-manual conversion videos and it seems like a ton of work to me but I can see when it starts to make sense if you find a minty clean auto for cheap
My buddy likes to keep D series 1.6 Honda motors around, he buys em for $200+ and about $400 with trans
4:08 if one of the seals is gone and it has no compression......UHH I hate to break it to you , but without the head on it you will never know if the rings are toast.....
How r u all doing and be safe from uk London
We’re great over here, hope you’re staying safe too!
How did you get the engine to your house?
When I found it in the alley, I went around to the front of the house and knocked on the door, then the owner helped me load it into my car 😁
I wouldn’t have been able to do it myself without some makeshift hoist, it was super heavy
How are you
700
I remember Jack sparrow while watching your video
You should try in acting too
Wow that’s from a lawnmower??? Looks like what’s in my Honda crx😂
Never mind it is the same motor lmfao hf motor tho?
I was being funny 😆
.25 cent an lb for al engines here I buy them
hit it with a sledge hammer and pick up the pieces you'll get them out or use a really good skill saw
I guess that’s probably the most time efficient!
Using a battery you could of jumped the starter and even turned the engine over that way
Ohhh that’s a great idea!!
the cylinder head was off, it would not have compression no matter what lol
I mean.. yes lol
your videos need more lighting
I actually have a new light that’s battery powered and more portable, so I think that’s improved things but it would have helped in this one for sure 👍
@@thubprint skilled youtubers often forget about it so I thought I'd make this remark. Because from observation, youtubers who have their camera work figured out top notch are more likely to have more subscribers and their content viewed better than those who don't. Good luck to you and nice interesting channel
You could have took the motor to a engine rebuilder they're places to buy engines
