There is no way I'd get on that death trap. It needs to be a successful cargo vehicle for a while before launching people.
It isn't built for cargo. Couldn't carry much. That's the whole point of it. Crew launch vehicle. SpaceX has seperate vehicles for cargo and crewed spaceflight. Starliner is crew only.
@markevan1 I understand that, but the capsule is not trustworthy and it needs flights to work out the bugs. Loading it up with cargo instead of people will give it the opportunity to work out those bugs before they put people in it.

No rescue would be possible unless they made it to the station. The capsules can't dock to each other, and spacewalking suits can't be used from either capsule either. Brave experienced crew... but this is no shuttle.
There is no amount of money that would get me on that thing.

The only reason this is not scrap is NASA does not want to put all their eggs into one basket. Boeing has been a NASA contractor for years, but they are still a commercial company and SpaceX appears to be better managed.
Yep, it's the one basket thing. The whole Commercial Crew Program is based and funded on two suppliers. The expendable Starliner won't fly very often, but they're stuck with it, unless it just won't function.
Space is absolutely unforgiving and has no mercy. NASA continues to do the right thing to provide redundant solutions for this delicate, high risk task. Boeing was the Number ONE choice for sixty years. Thanks to Boeing, we as humankind are where we are. I sure salute SpaxeX for their achievements, standing on the shoulders of titans. However, those Titans are the achievements of Boeing for a whopping six / seven decades straight now, including the Shuttle & the ISS. My humble thanks to NASA for not forgetting this. Boeing will bounce back.

Big waste of taxpayer money. They already have a proven privet launch system that works well and is cheaper. I would not want to fly on anything Boing made these days.

Obviously, Boeing has not performed well in this process, but it is very deliberate that NASA from the start wanted to have two options, and that logic has not changed.
NASA has *already* paid for *six* crew deliveries to the ISS. With all of the members of Congress who have received bribes ... er ... campaign contributions from Boeing and its many subcontractors if NASA cancelled the contract it would expect to see billions of dollars of funding disappear from future years. And Boeing cannot cancel the contract from its side without having to pay NASA at least $2B to replace the six missions. Today's flight is entirely funded by BOEING because this is a fixed price contract. No tax dollars are involved. Yes NASA would be better off if Boeing cancelled the contract because that $2B would pay for *nine* Crew Dragon missions. However SpaceX has *already* budgeted for the anticipated loss of one crewed mission to Boeing and one cargo mission to DreamCatcher each year. Also remember that because Northrop-Grumman put a low priority on obtaining a western replacement for its Russian-built Antares booster, SpaceX is now responsible for delivering the N-G Cygnus cargo missions to the ISS as well as its own Cargo Dragons.

Both Boeing and NASA know the magnitude of a successful flight, so I'm confident they won't take any unnecessary risks. As much as I'm disappointed with Boeing, I hope they prove Starliner to be a safe and robust spacecraft and that the astronauts get there and back OK.

Starliner is the proverbial dead horse that's being whipped by the government, due to not having anything better to do. It's basically to keep the needed people working at one location for the duration, until someone has a brain-fart worthy of trying out.
Still, the question hangs in the center of the room: If we could make all the "Moon Shots" back then, using the old Motorola 6809E 8 Bit microprocessor running at 8Mh, why is it now that with all the high power stuff available, the A.I.s and Quantum Computing included, why and how is it we're having so much trouble figuring it out "Again", nowadays?
No sht! Those guys had half the computer programming and used a lot of slide rules. 5 years and 6 missions to the moon.
The last Space Shuttle was in 2011 and we are just NOW getting ready to go to the ISS.

Nice job outlining the risks associated with a Starliner mission. Hypergolic fuel is scary stuff! But it is just as scary when used by the SpaceX Crew Dragon Draco thrusters as it is in the Starliner. But how did you overlook the recovery of Starliner from land touchdown? That's scary stuff that our astronauts have only had to experience when hitching a Soyuz ride.
With a chute failure, crashing into the ocean is just as deadly. It did land ok on it's last test flight, airbags worked, although chute problems have been discovered since.

The Boeing 737 Max has had several issues in its history. The most significant of these were two fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019 in Ethiopia and Indonesia, collectively causing the deaths of 346 people. These crashes were linked to poorly designed cockpit software, resulting in the 737 Max being grounded globally for 20 months. The aircraft was recertified by the FAA for passenger flights in November 2020.

After fifty years this spacecraft seems to offer little advance on the Apollo capsules of the time. Indeed, it seems that NASA is stuck in an engineering time warp as far as launch systems and spacecraft are concerned. None of this has been helped by uninformed political meddling.
It's old tech. Decades behind the reusable Dragon. Sad situation. Launcher and capsule expendable. Maybe one launch per year. Wasteful.

No way there will be a problem with starliner. Boeing and NASA knows any failure would end Boeings space operations and they provide so many various services to NASA that they can’t afford a failure. That is why NASA used so many resources making sure Boeing had everything right from parachute cords to tape on the wiring. And yes, the US needs a second orbital rocket crew rated.

There is no new test flight after having stripped almost the whole inside electronics. If there is a risk of failure, this fight has bingo cards for it. Realy hope the best for the astronauts.
Great Video ! Did you really say the Boeing Starliner is going to land in the Pacific ocean ? An abort on launch will have you land in the Atlantic Ocean ! The mission plan is for the Boeing Starliner to reenter and to parachute for a land landing ! A great video except for this one small error... The NASA leadership killed two Crews of the NASA Space Shuttle and the second Crew could have been saved if NASA had a second launch provider ! The Boeing Starliner can dock with the ISS, the SpaceX Dragon, with another Boeing Starliner and in the future maybe the HLS ! Would I go on the Boeing Starliner ? If I had the option I would wait for the gentle return with the Sierra Space Crew Dream Chaser for a gentle landing on a Spaceport Runway ! ! ! NASA gives Starliner a 1 in 295 chance of killing its astronauts. Its threshold is 1 in 270.
Crea Dragon 2 was - 1 in 276. So if Starliner sucks, so does Crew Dragon.

Dragon has always been capable of carrying up to 7 Astronauts "comfortably".

I really don't think this is a good idea. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you think Boeing should prove itself with several, consistent, successful UNCREWED missions of Starliner to the ISS before they put people on it. In my opinion, this is a very poor decision on the part of NASA who is the soul overseer of this whole Starliner project. What are they thinking? Starliner has been nothing but trouble. One problem after another, over and over and over again. The whole Starliner program should have been scrapped years ago. I wouldn't get on one of Boeing's airplanes. And I certainly wouldn't get on their one and only spacecraft that's been a disaster from day one. I don't have a drop of respect for Boeing OR NASA. NASA AND Boeing have made too many careless decisions and mistakes that have cost too many lives. They are both failures in my opinion.

I'm happy to know that Starliner will be atop an Atlas V rocket instead of a Falcon 9. I'm assuming this means SpaceX is not involved in this most irresponsible, ridiculous and chance taking mission that NASA and Boeing are so famous for. One thing that stands out to me for both of these companies; neither one have a drop of common sense. SpaceX, on the other hand, is overflowing with common sense AND they employ the most intelligent engineers in the world. GO SPACEX!!

NASA, struggling with holding on to funding, their manned missions become increasingly difficult to rationalize. SpaceX has the edge without huge taxpayer funding, Congress watching. Believe this only further demonstrates NASA’s inability to compete.

Has anyone checked the most important statuses. The amounts of $$$$ that will be made available for upper echelon management's bonus checks enhancements if the mission is a success versus a failure. Really depends on those amounts on what happens.

Within the household, if you're spending more than you're bringing in, you have two choices. Make more or spend less. Pretty simple. It's called budgeting. Our government is spending roughly 2 trillion dollars more per year than what we are taking in. Remember, this is your money. And they've been doing this for years. And it's getting worse. What's really going on? We need a businessman as president; not a politician. Folks, if the citizens of this country don't step up and demand a change, the United States of America, as we know it, will be gone within just a few years. It is landing in White Sands Space Harbour and not the Pacific. Parachutes and heatshields also caused a delay to Dragon and it was not a new craft but a redesign of an existing cargo craft. I really wish people would be more accurate with facts in the SpaceX channels. If Starliner proves itself it will be a real challenge to Dragon due to the larger capacity.

With an erratic conman at its head, Space X, for all its achievements, remains a risky company to rely on. Both Tesla and Twitter are on shaky ground, and I worry that the collapse of either company could start a domino effect that could impact Space X. I want them to succeed, but Musk does not fill me with confidence. Meanwhile, Starliner is the back-up that may become important if Space X falters.
I trust NASA, when they say ULA and Boeing are ready to launch. This channel is obviously a Elon fan boy. I bet it took months to cum up with this channel name - how original.
