But then there was the opening cutscene, which looked awesome, then the menu, which looked awesome, because of the building of your own vehicle, which is always nice, and then the gameplay, which also looked awesome. I kinda wish I could have played this game.
Dude, I would suggest you try to find this game, it is one the most awesome games I have ever played, as well as one of the first. Unfortunately I lost the disc a long time ago, but when I found an emulator where the ROM files actually worked, I was super thrilled. This game is truly a classic, it is a shame that they aren't making them anymore. :-(

I had the PC version... and, as far as I can recall, beat all the champions save for RR. I wasn't very skilled at racing games as a general rule (even today I'm more of an action/adventure kind of gal) and I don't think I raged more at a game in my entire life. Oo Still, I kept coming back to it - it was as entertaining as it was frustrating. This review makes me want to dig it up...

If I didn't have any evidence that it was Caddicarus (or even a human) in the beginning of the video and his voice was a little lower, it could as well have been Salad Fingers in his place. Also, I had this game and the sequel for the PC, as well as a game called Drome Racers. If I remember right, the game wasn't as hard in the beginning, but started to become Battletoads racing at the reversed tracks. I didn't really play the other two games as much, though.

Played this as a kid. My favorite part was when you stay on the menu screen for some time, the Lego character would hit the screen. Made them feel alive.
This game is my entire childhood. I got it for the computer the day I had my first tooth pulled for stupid dentist reasons or something, and I beat the whole game. It almost took me an entire year, but was worth it, I WAS THE GREATEST LEGO RACER EVER!!! Watching that opening cutscene and hearing that music in the menus gives me a warm feeling inside.
in the dessert level if you hit the big king tut statue with a projectile in the dessert level you find a shortcut. Also in the space level when you use the shield in a certain place a part of the wall starts glowing and you can go in. Finding these as a kid was amazing.
I love this game! Loved it when I was little and I still love (and play it) as an adult. Even when I little I didn't have trouble with the controls, though. Perhaps it's something to do with the version in the video being for the PSX? I don't know. I've got the PC version and it plays very well on the keyboard. At least I never had issues with it, myself.
