  • Dr Melissa Butcher from Birkbeck's Department of Geography discusses gentrification in London. She says "The process of gentrification causes displacement - through eviction, through increased rents and land values or because people no longer feel they belong in an area. You can argue gentrification can bring better facilities or infrastructure to an area, but the question you always have to ask yourself is: 'who are these changes for?'"

    There is big community spirit in these areas. Everyone knows everyone else and looks out for each other. All that spirit is being lost as coffee shops and 'pho' cafes move in with people with strange beards. Eye watering prices for sod all. It's just sad.
