    Well, after watching you PATIENTLY solving a few more of your puzzles and tutorials, I just solved a Chicago Tribune Sunday Sudoku. Yes, Sunday to Thursday, finally done. If I see a dangerous rectangle, threatening uniqueness, then I have no issue with just eliminating those numbers and going for the 'sensible' option in the square with the extra digit. I think that uniqueness, the knowledge that there is one solution, is a perfectly logical piece of information to be used!

    I tend to do the numbers in order rather than the row/columns so naturally I saw some things before you said them. I also give a candidate tag if there are three in a row, which eliminates the rest of the row/column. Think someone called it Slice & Dice. I don't think that was actually a dual solution puzzle btw. Although I have had some but they are bad puzzles.

    • @SudokuGuy
      @SudokuGuy  4 роки тому

      Yes james you can see things before I do however i entually get there. There are many paths to take. It depends on what you know and when you see an opportunity. Slice and Dice is the same as my cross/meet technique.

    • @OzymandiasSaysHi
      @OzymandiasSaysHi 3 роки тому

      He wasn’t saying that it was a dual solution puzzle. He was saying that since you cannot have a dual solution, then the seven had to go into that cell. But he preferred to not use that fact to put the seven in at that time since that’s not really a “correct“ way of solving these puzzles.

    Can't wait these have been helpful since I got back in. In a book I've done 11 straight before messing up real bad. Still trying to learn the cleaver, and malet. What's been helpful is the cross till I doubled a column/row by accident. An don't realize till really late. Hate that

    Thank you for another great lesson! I have just one question: in this “danger” case, the puzzle was ultimately solved to avoid two solutions. Yet I’ve seen two puzzles so far that seemed to only allow for a two solution scenario. Can you explain further how to avoid this? Thanks so much.

    • @SudokuGuy
      @SudokuGuy  4 роки тому

      Good question Revekah. I have just filmed another tutorial where I explain what to do. It will be uploaded in Oct I think.The key is to watcch ahead to see the possible danger and change one of the numbers. Have look at the video again. I also cover this in tutorial #21

    The puzzles I get in the paper, even level 1 are harder than your examples ( I have not watched all your videos yet) ie. going thru horizontally , vertically and crosscheck, often leave me with only 2 large numbers and when filling in small numbers, there are many times when there are 3 or more cells "left", not just 2. Are your puzzles easier for the sake of teaching?

    • @SudokuGuy
      @SudokuGuy  4 роки тому

      Hi Linda. thanks for your comment. There are papers and computer apps on the market that say the puzzles are easy but they are not. so much depends on how many techniques you know and when you spot them You are on your way. Hhang in there and master the easy puzzles first. If you have 3 or more cells left then it is a medium diffculty and you will need to watch all lessons and tutorials from 1 -12.

    quick question....after you've run through all the popular techniques (claiming pairs (triples and quadruples), x-wings, skyscrapers, etc) and you only have 4 cells with two variables AND you've run through all the possible scenarios with each of the numbers in the pair cells....then what? How do the experts crack the most complicated puzzles? There must be something I'm missing.

      Hi Beth If I understand you correctly use lesson 24 and 25 then look for a chain of pairs. as well as may be XY wings and W wings Not seeing your puzzle it's hard for me to give the correct answer you are lookingfor Hope this helps. Hang in there.

      Dear Justin,
      More than 100 puzzle solutions are posted on my channel "sail MICHIGAN".
      You might get better search results using "sudoku sail MICHIGAN"
      A couple of new ones each day.
      The puzzle solutions are similar.
      They are the hardest rated from New York Times or Los Angeles Times.
      The site shows a program written using Microsoft Excel functions is effective.
      I have received comments that a computer program ruins the challenge of solving manually.
      To the contrary, writing a program is a bigger challenge.
      Writing a program is a learning experience that prepares one for bigger challenges.
      IBM wrote a computer program to beat the Chess World Champion.
      Google wrote a computer program to beat the GO World Champion when was thought to be impossible.
      MIT uses games/puzzles to teach Artificial Intelligence.
      AI will be eliminating jobs in mass so I recommend getting ready by writing a program to solve Sudoku.
      Make the computer work for you… preferable to working for the computer.
      Sail On.
