Ricky really needs to talk less. Ed Byrne might not have heard about Ricky never having struggled in stand-up before, but this is about the seventh fucking show I'm hearing him talk about it.
Remember when Rick used to 'joke' that without Karl and monkey news etc he would have trouble filling the show cos he has nothing to say? Well..... Its awkward listening to what Ricky THOUGHT this show was gonna be in the pilot, such a faux philosopher he ran out of material in episode 2!
Nick Mccartan at one point he even reminded ed where he was in his story after imterupting with a point about himself and when ed tried to continue he done it again...... Hes not a great host, this is either a chat with his friends where he shows off to make them laugh or to laugh himself or its a show with guests and questions etc where people might tune in to hear brian Cox try and get a word in or to hear richard dawkins sigh in despair as ricky tries to prove hes on his level..... like he always does. If its the first then hes already done that and this doesn't compare, If its the second then seriously he has to learn how to host, and stop thinking its mainly about him. I like the man but this is pretty bad, Least he made it availble for free, youd be mad if you paid for it
James Shepherd If you took everything Ricky has said on the subject of stand up comedy, you could be forgiven for thinking it was 10 mins of material, playing over and over on a loop.
I love Ricky but I’d love to hear different stuff every week other than the same stories every week to different people. A guy did a sitcom and his career went downhill, lovely, heard it 5 times now.
30:53 AWKWARD. Ricky stole this joke from Steven Merchant. He first said it on XFM. Ricky clearly cannot remember this, sad. Ricks bad memory is the root cause of the fallout with Steve methinks
Spot on I could not agree more. I've noticed over the years the amount of XFM jokes, particularly Karl's observations that have been dressed up as Ricky's.
Actually, many of the jokes that appeared on the later XFM shows had appeared in earlier XFM shows said by a different one of the trio. So sometimes Steve would deliver a joke of Ricky's and visa versa. I think this came from them pre-deciding what funny topics they could talk about and looking at what had been funny earlier. It's plausible that Rick said it first. I've seen Steve use a couple of Ricky's golden globe stories before, namely the one where he describes getting Cheetos in his teeth and also the clint Eastwood story among others. I've never seen people moan on those videos, so I'd give Rick a break if he repeats something that someone he used to spend all day every day with once said 12 years ago.....
I've always loved the fact that you can have a good laugh with your mates at the pub or at work and sometimes it can be just as funny as listening to a professional comedian. Work is probably the best place to practice comedy because of the fact that you get to know your 'audience' and bounce off them with banter and one liners. It also makes quite a boring situation bearable! I'm finding it interesting listening to the stories of how these guys crafted their humor from being funny guys with their mates to doung 3 minute TV spots for £8000. As I'm listening on youtube, I don't hear the songs but I pause it and play it to get the full experience. I commented earlier that you should play some Ry Cooder. If anyone of any influence is reading this, I recommend 'Married Man's a fool' from the Paradise and Lunch album. I'll pause the podcast and put my LP on in the shed if it gets in #08. 😎 There's a lot of negative comments from people who just want to hear what they want to hear. C'mon people. If you actually listen to it and appreciate it for what it is, you might get something out of it. If anyone wants a laugh, look up Robin Williams interviews when he was on talk shows. He had great chemistry with Craig Ferguson and David Letterman. He could quite easily take over an interview but good interviewers knew how to channel his immense energy. I prefer watching these interviews to his stand up because of the extra energy he gained from being in that situation. If you don't like my suggestion, just stick to tagging your mates in chicken nugget memes on facebook.
When this podcast started he said it was going to be about the important things in life, science, art, music, comedy. Now is only comedy and is getting boring.

John Berry cheers mate, I'm already subscribed to the podcast but only the 1st episode has been uploaded which is a shame as it's just a lot simpler that way.
Humanshieldchorus00 well I figured you were Irish, that's why I said "gowl",but I doubt you use that slang in Armagh, pretty sure that's Limerick slang lol.
Octavian Caesar Hibernicus Haha! No we would use that up there, it's rare but it does happen. I don't think he's that bad now. Like in grand scheme is far far better than your Michael McIntyre's and Amy Schumers of the world.
OK love Ricky but this I must admit this is over the top. A bit of talk and complaining about being a comedian is fine we learn how these guys do their trade but generally a subject that would be better off having chat over a beer with mates than a podcast. There is none of the bigger subjects Ricky loves.
I know these aren't that popular with a vocal number of people in the comments, but for someone that's really into comedy I have to say I'm fucking loving them haha. Great insight.
Pfft its because im really into comedy that i find this fucking awful, its hardly the craftsmen is it? Rick just keeps quoting comedians jokes and not even remembering their names to give them credit, this is nearing the line of joke stealing ffs
CORNISHDUDE it's hardly joke stealing when he explicitly says it's not his joke, you dope. Is that one arbitrary and ultimately unfounded claim the only reason you didn't like it? Seems very specific
Sorry man I listened to the whole thing and I was really really flagging half way through. I love you Rick but this is shop talk. I genuinely watch and listen to EVERYTHING you do. And I gave you pass for the first 6 shows. Some were OK,1 or 2 were approaching good but this one was terrible mate. I'm all for the serious chat and in depth stuff but where's the comedy? And I'm not talking about jokes but the funny chat. You've flogged the same dead horse for every show (in varying degrees). And o say shop talk but this one was really really same thing over and over and same as every other week.
Couldn't agree more... i watch and listen to all his material but with this podcast it seems like he's forgetting there's actually an audience out there that he should care about
Well me for starters. I am also a Gervais fan and I am enjoying this podcast plenty barring the insanely entitled people in the comments. If you think it's shit then go and watch something else? There are a billion hours of content on UA-cam. It makes no sense to me why people would continue with something they don't enjoy. Accept that it's not for you but other people enjoy it and move on. Megan Hardy I know right, and they make it sound like it deserves to be up there with Plato, they tell jokes for Christ's sake, and in my opinion people are funny or not, its not like you can study it like mathematics.
Fingaz Mc Jeffries is a fuckin prick who has politically corrected his comedy and apologised for past material, obviously being a hero to the left in America, and the dollars it brings is far more important, fuck that guy.
For those wanting Steve, you won't get him. Ricky has spent the better part of three years trying to cut Steve out of his career. His career revisionism is astounding. And before the five min mark he's interrupting his guests. I used to love Ricky. But it's all gone to his head. How can you justify not mentioning your collaborator, _even when people explicitly ask about him_ ?
It's obvious Ricky and Steve have fallen out. Maybe it was when Ricky decided to write that abysmal Life on The Road film without Steve or maybe it was when Steve wrote Hello Ladies... Or maybe it was Life's too Short failing. Who knows?

I thought Ricky Gervais would be smart enough to see the shit he is talking about regarding comedy and acting is a conversation which should be in a film studio or an award ceremony. Boring as fuck. Don't bother uploading wank
Without the beautiful randomness of Karl and the the chemistry of Steve in the room these podcasts are all very similar with the same content over and over. I have listened to the original podcasts hundreds of times and they still make me laugh. These aren't funny, they are interesting sometimes but I doubt I'll ever play one of these a second time.
The radio shows with karl pilkington (XFM and later 'The ricky gervais show') were a comedy setup where ricky played the stooge. It wouldn't work any other way with karl.
whats wrong with that? and can everyone stop with ''wwaaaaaa i wanna here an idiot get taken the piss out of by two smart arses, bring back carl''. ricky clearly wants to do other things and move on.
Today on Ben Bailey is Deadly Sirius, Ricky Gervais! Why not just have Ben as a co-presented, for Christ's sake. Also, we get it Ricky, you are an atheist and a comedian, why not get someone on who has a different field of expertise and produce some fresh material? I think I speak for a lot of us when I say I'm sick of hearing you talk with such pride and certainty about science, religion, acting, comedy etc. You are starting to lose fans, I genuinely hope you hear about these comment sections because I think I'm done listening to your content.
I went to a stand-up night where one of the comedians cracked his head on a light on the way onto stage. Blood pissing down his face he had to bail. The first comedian was forced to come back on and he admitted he'd forgotten what be had or hadn't done so we had to warn him if he was repeating himself. As one, without a word the whole audience said nothing on the first repeated bit and we ALL shouted the punch line as he was about to say it. He realised he'd done a 4 min bit with EVERYONE pretending they hadn't heard it. Brilliant. Happened another 2 or 3 times each time we found it funnier and he eventually gave up stepped down off the stage into the audience and we ALL went through to the bar and got faced. Great night
I imagine when Joe Rogan started people constantly commenting "why isn't he doing his fear factor stuff" If you don't like it, stop listening, he doesn't owe you anything
Jedi E.T most people, I dunno about that, have you seen how many downloads he gets a fuckin month, I always watch his interviews on UA-cam but my god, there's no way I would watch his standup. My point is, I guarantee a high percentage of people who listen to a Gervais podcast would know who Joe Rogan is.
Craig Warner - stop listening, move on, go out in the fresh air, PLEASE. Clearly you're not a fan of this podcast from your 398 comments you've made. We get it.
Ed Byrne. Nick name Dick during his teenage years. Yes I have a ton of them jokes/puns/what ever they're called. I blame the English school system, Carry On Films and 70's, 80's comedy shows.
experiment54 You are not funny! Stop being a try hard! Especially considering that you clearly think that you're hilarious. That joke doesn't even work.
Such a pity Sirius XM is supporting the likes of Steve Bannon (Seth Rogen refused to appear there) and such a pity the great Ricky Gervais would rather block people who speak out against it than give a reason why he is not leaving the show in protest. Could it be money? Entire career making fun of people and now he's playing the liberal and helping Bannon. When will we find out he doesn't like animals? "Oh I can't have a dog cause I'm always away" yeah right...
Sorry. This is literally the same topics revisited over and over again. I won't listen again. It's Ricky's art and he can do what he chooses. But it isn't entertaining for me so I am out.
Don’t like Ben much - comes across as very full of himself and arrogant. loved all the other guests though - David Baddiel by far my fav(besides Ricky, obviously) ❤️
Christopher Stancill I agree. He's supposed to write comedy songs, but he isn't funny at all, but then Ricky isn't that funny naturally and he's supposed to be the top British comedian.
The long and winding road sums this up. Don't think I'm gonna make it through this - no reflection on ed. The Baddiel one was very amusing but very tiresome now. Seems is just talking about comedy to promote tour, we hear it. Get baddiel back, and Karl, and smerch. Or do one with actors or something.
I like Ricky but he's terrible at this, every single story his guest tells comes back to him telling his story, he's an I-MAN, every response to a guests story is "when I did...." or "I did that".....you have these witty people on Ricky to tell you their stories, you can be interested without it relating to a story of your own.
Ricky needs to take some advice from other podcast interviewers. Look at Joe Rogan, he is brilliant at keeping quiet and letting the guest tell their stories and theories, he knows when to chime in to ask a question and contribute with his own stories. Ricky has to always make everything about himself on this, the guy has got a big ego and a lot of the time its just kinda obnoxious and not even funny.
Worst one so far..... Im not asking for Karl pilkington but getting Ben Bailey on yet another show is getting a bit boring. Sort it out Ricky please. I can't believe I've been let down by my God......
Ricky asks a question then buts in saying
“ But when I did this.......”
He Loves talking about himself.
But i do like him.
Well.....
Its awkward listening to what Ricky THOUGHT this show was gonna be in the pilot, such a faux philosopher he ran out of material in episode 2!
mikewozere get over it
I love Ed Byrne. Would have been smashing if he'd had a chance to speak
Ffs Ricky let the guest speak, 6 mins in and everything Ed has done Ricky has done too
Nick Mccartan at one point he even reminded ed where he was in his story after imterupting with a point about himself and when ed tried to continue he done it again......

I like the man but this is pretty bad,

Does anyone know if Ricky was famous before he started doing standup??
does anyone one know if he thinks his stand up has improved from the shite he used to do?
he did that programme about an office if memory serves me
Ricky only started to do stand up after the "Office" became successful so yes he was famous before he started doing it.
James Shepherd
If you took everything Ricky has said on the subject of stand up comedy, you could be forgiven for thinking it was 10 mins of material, playing over and over on a loop.
I met Steve Martin yesterday, he asked me 'How come Ricky Gervais isn't funny anymore?'...
the line between Ricky Gervais and David Brent is getting very blurred, i almost feel sorry for him.
Daniel Tipa haha I was thinking the same thing 👍🏽
I'm a late comer to listening to these episodes and I am absolutely loving them.
Ricky tells the same stories on each episode.....Karl needs to be a cohost
I love Ricky but I’d love to hear different stuff every week other than the same stories every week to different people. A guy did a sitcom and his career went downhill, lovely, heard it 5 times now.
I can't get enough of these! 😍 great subjects, great guests 😊
We want Dilkington
30:53 AWKWARD. Ricky stole this joke from Steven Merchant. He first said it on XFM. Ricky clearly cannot remember this, sad. Ricks bad memory is the root cause of the fallout with Steve methinks
Interesting theory. He uses lots of Karl Pilkington jokes in his stand up, sometimes he mentions Karl but it seems this is rare.

Think this one need to be listened to today!
another great pod cast. i need to re listen tho as i ate a space cake and fell on the floor too far from my headphones... :)
I've come to realize after listening to 6 of these that's it Ricky interviewing himself for an hour. Couldn't make it through this one.
Thanks guys I won't even waste my time listening to it!

Jesus ricky.. Will you let Ed speak for 10 seconds without interrupting throwing in an anecdote about yourself. You’re always talking about yourself.
Update these on iTunes so I can download them on the podcast app!!
Good to hear Ed mention Doug Stanhope ❤
Why aren't these on the Podcast app? I'd love to be able to listen to them whilst at work (Cleaning windows) Please please! +Ricky Gervais

Don’t know
What happened to the concept of eminent guests talking about the meaning of life? That's three episodes now of comedians talking shop.
Was the "comedian getting angry about a trip to the post office" example a reference to Richard Herring?
Good trio love doc and ed. Ed's joke about the girl with the gorgeous t-shirt lolol
I'm getting sick of Ricky saying "because I was famous and I'd made it before I started stand up....
This is making you really ill mate you should stop listening
Ed Byrne is an Irish national treasure.
Humanshieldchorus00 I'm Irish and think he's an absolute gowl.
Likewise, Armagh. Well let me edit that, Ed is an irish national treasure to me
Humanshieldchorus00 Limerick, man I have never liked him,he's not too bad just talking but his comedy is terrible... in my opinion.

Since Ricky loves puns: "You can't have a cake and eat it a tit"
Love it
Sorry man I listened to the whole thing and I was really really flagging half way through. I love you Rick but this is shop talk. I genuinely watch and listen to EVERYTHING you do. Well me for starters. I am also a Gervais fan and I am enjoying this podcast plenty barring the insanely entitled people in the comments. If you think it's shit then go and watch something else? Over analyzing what is funny - is not funny

@@octaviancaesarhibernicus4447 Bet you love the controversy with him atm then mate.
Ricky make them try to break the world record of how many burgers one can stuff in the face

Play some Ry Cooder. I'll come on the show if you're struggling for guests.

I must admit I'm getting sick of them every single week deconstructing comedy.
Agree, he should get more scientists, musicians and bald mancs on this show... Comedy is interesting but repetition is what kills it.

Your criticism of Ben is that he is full of himself and he's on the same show as Ricky Gervais?
lmao wtf is wrong with you
you should hear his dad!
Sweetpea Sugarplum I'd love to
I'm confused as to how you can call Ben full of himself and in the same comment call David Baddiel your fav.
I wish Ricky would stop butting in and talking over his guests. Let them finish what they're saying!
Ben Bailey Smith is probably a nice guy, but man, how boring is he? I've never heard him say anything funny.
Christopher Stancill i agree
Christopher Stancill I'm sorry but your wrong Christopher... Ben Bailey is not boring he is FUCKIN BORING
Christopher Stancill I agree. He's supposed to write comedy songs, but he isn't funny at all, but then Ricky isn't that funny naturally and he's supposed to be the top British comedian.
People moaning about it being too much Gervais... it's his podcast? Surely people should be disappointed if he doesn't do most of the talking?
The long and winding road sums this up. Don't think I'm gonna make it through this - no reflection on ed. The Baddiel one was very amusing but very tiresome now. Seems is just talking about comedy to promote tour, we hear it. Get baddiel back, and Karl, and smerch. Or do one with actors or something.
I'm out
You smell?...............You shit?
I like Ricky but he's terrible at this, every single story his guest tells comes back to him telling his story, he's an I-MAN, every response to a guests story is "when I did...." or "I did that".....you have these witty people on Ricky to tell you their stories, you can be interested without it relating to a story of your own.
Yeah. Shame. Noel G, David B were great. Ed is cool, nice, but Ricky it’s the same story ever week. I think I might give up.
Love Ricky but can't listen to these. Very boring and same guests every time!
Worst one so far..... Im not asking for Karl pilkington but getting Ben Bailey on yet another show is getting a bit boring. Sort it out Ricky please. I can't believe I've been let down by my God......
Bring back Karl
De trout spinners!
Ben bailey contributed nothing here
why did the chicken cross the road?
"put on the fucking hat!"
