Made a mistake of giving Trent a go in midfield, with the predictable outcome of him struggling because he can’t play there. He also doesn’t get in the side at right back. It’s a shame Ben White wasn’t available as Trent doesn’t add anything to the squad.

In a couple years time we'll look at the dumb decison to play Walker over trent because he is faster. Walker is not a good defender either. White is a better compromise i agree. With the lack of creativity in the team I think it’s a massive loss not to have trent playing.

If you are going to press you have to RUN. Kane has spent the last two games strolling around the pitch. The last game, against Denmark he touched the ball ONCE in the opposing penalty area. Shouldn't be in the squad let alone Captain. His rant against those who slammed the team against Denmark was a disgrace. He should take a look at a recording of the match taking notice of what he did, and if he is honest, he would not only apologise to the pundits and retire from international football. A captain for any team should lead by example, he was the worst of a very bad display. If he had wandered around like that for his club he would have been dropped. But the idiot, Southgate will select the same team, half of them out of position.
Connor Gallagher is the epitome of mid at this level of competition. It's remarkable how Southgate manages to play Foden completely out of position, make no use of Palmer or Mainoo, and yet rely on someone as rustic as a Gallagher to set up an immensely talented team to play like an underdog.
It boggle the mind on how incompetent this manager is. Wharton and Manioo better pack there things and go home if he can't even trust them to play against Slovenia.
This is what happens when the FA keep hiring average mediocre pragmatists players to be all the coaches at the FA. If you look at all the coaches they have hired for all the men’s teams they are all defensive players. Someone at the FA that makes decisions is only hiring defensive minded coaches for all positions, showing they are clueless about modern football

It's because Connor Gallagher as a player is pretty much what Southgate is as a manager.
@@jacob4690 Foden was a standout player for the 2nd best club in Europe this year. He can play #10 or right winger. He never plays on the left. Yet this is where Southgate plays arguably his most creative player. Mainoo may be inexperienced but he's far better technically than Gallagher, who's a very limited player on the ball.

I never envisaged Trent Alexander Arnold as a holding midfield player. I always imagined him as an attacking midfield player in later years. Junior moved from left back for Brazil in 1982 to attacking midfielder for Brazil in 1986. Paul Brietner moved from full back for West Germany in 1974 to attacking midfielder for West Germany in 1982. Leonardo moved from full back for Brazil in 1994 to attacking midfielder for Brazil in 1998.
Arnold will not get into the England team as an attacking midfielder at this stage but it seems only Southgate envisioned him as a defensive midfielder. Very strange.
Gallagher is an average footballer who would fit more in the Scotland team than an England team who want us to believe they are one of the best teams out there.
We have the players to get Trent in the team. But we need to go to a 3 at the back.

If kane isn’t going to be pressing and sticking to the last defender then it doesn’t matter all that he’s achieved because his style of play would be hindering England regardless. Dropping too deep and not stretching the play is making it a lot harder to attack and it’s clogging up the midfield. Fodan needs to be at CAM if you’re not going to drop him and actual cm that can defend or has positional awareness has to be on instead of Gallagher and Trent.. Southgate it’s trying to please the big players instead of making Decisions a get benefit the team
