I can't believe that his friends did not say something to either the police or his family about him talking of killing. I'm glad he got convicted but he should have gotten a life sentence without parole. His parents are just crazy to take up for him and try to say it wasn't his fault.Destroying evidence etc. By them covering up for him and going around, making everything.OK, that he did bad. That is why he ended up the way he did. Parents need to realize their children have to understand that there are consequences for the things they did.

I adore my daughter, but murder is murder and we aren’t protecting anyone, including our child by letting them believe that they can get away with these types of things - and not teaching them to be kind, loving people. It’s really unfortunate that those with wealth enable their children to think more of themselves instead of teaching them how to use their privilege for good. My heart goes out to her family. What a tragedy.

That choke hold is actually from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I know because I grew up with fighters who do MMA. It’s the ONE move they taught me for self defense. And yes, I can cause a grown man twice my size to pass out. It’s not a flex but just something I’m glad I know because of things that happened in my life.

They taught us the Mata Leão 🦁 (lion killer in English) along with a few other holds/moves for self defense. I’m very grateful. Wrong. Mommy and Daddy's money can protect you in prison. I imagine he is paying money for protection. It's very common. Now, he might still have to fight now and then, but it is against the rules of prison to step on someone's hustle. So unless you have a good reason to fight him, if he is paying for protection you technically aren't allowed to harm him. Prison politics are strange. But do NOT get it twisted. Their money absolutely can protect him in prison. Also, for anyone who is going to say something stupid like what experience do you have with the prison system. I have spent a nice chunk of my life incarcerated due to addiction. 5 of which were in prison. I have been out of prison for 12 years, off parole for 10 and sober for 7. I have never comitted a violent crime.

I am a man and the media I enjoy is varied, but I find it interesting that this True Crime stuff seems to be most enjoyed by women.
I saw a commenter once musing about this, she had a hypothesis that straight women put themselves out there with men who they can never know if they're gonna turn out to be killers or some other kind of monsters, and this causes a preoccupation that creates the interest in true crime.
I have no idea if there's anything to that, but it is an interesting idea to me

The parents had all money and resources available to them to give that kid a proper and well rounded upbringing but they ignored it all and chose to use money, ego, willful ignorance, and stup.idity as their best parenting tools. "A good name (reputation) is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold." A good proverb to live by, imo.

I have only 1 child , a now 21 year old young man. I love him so much and I will love him always. However, you can love someone and not condone their actions. I believe had Elliot not been caught , he would have murdered again and again. His parents have raised a heartless , sorry excuse for a human. He should have been taught how to treat others and obviously he was not. I do understand sometimes people have mental issues or circumstances where someone takes a life and it has nothing to do with their parents or how they were raised ……. I don’t believe that applies to this case. It’s obvious Elliot has NO RESPECT for anyone or anything. Disgusting! I hope he spends a very long time behind bars. His parents deserved longer too , in my opinion.
My sympathy to family , I can’t imagine the pain of losing a child , especially to murder. May she rest in peace.
    Excellent work as always, Rachel.

Speaking of his parents, I hope they have the life they truly deserve. Especially his mother.

It’s also wise to also teach them manners, and responsibility along with respect for adults and women. They need to be taught right from wrong, and if they do wrong they will face consequences. He was taught nothing obviously. They thought they could keep him out of jail but it backfired on them, and they went to jail too. Crazy people think money will always keep them safe, but it doesn’t always work that way. He needed more time than 16 years. You know his parents will pay someone off to get him out at 16 years.

I've come to think that karma exists and it is simply causation, just a law of the universe.
I think that it's likely that after we die, we retain something like our old consciousness for a time... perfected in some ways, but also still limited, we're still subject to delusion and such imo
But I think from this state, we all honestly judge ourselves, and send ourselves off to whichever experience of reality we deserve and need and, to some extent, want next.
Some earlier iteration of the killer here wanted to be reborn rich, he wanted to have wealth without laboring for it and indulgent parents, just an easy life of excess
This was him getting exactly what he wanted.... subject to delusion still though, so he wanted the wrong things. All that money and nothing but free time, and it only serves to make him so much less than your average man

Hi Rachel. This goes to show how narcissists are spoiled brats! I don't understand, no matter how much I self educate on this topic, how they can be so cruel. It's obviously a learned behavior from their parents. I really appreciate you covering these topics that often go unreported or not reported at all. RIP Emily! I will be the first to admit that as the only girl, not just in my family w all older brothers, but even our of the 20somethibg grandkids I was the second girl and the youngest grandchild. (My dad was one of 7 kids so lots of cousins were had) .... I was definitely spoiled by my parents, my siblings, auntd/uncles and the cousins
HOWEVER, even though I was spoiled, I was raised to be kind, respectful, I have manners etc. My parents made damn sure I took responsibility for my actions and I bad consequences when deserved. I was raised to be a productive member of society who has home training.
You can spoil your kids and still teach them to be kind, cading, humble, and productive people. Every thing has its limits I suppose

Money can't make you a decent human. I hope Elliot never gets out of prison. He hated that Emily told him no, he thought he could manipulate Emily into getting back together. Women are safer with him in prison. I have an issue with the people Elliot told never went to police to let him know that he was to kill Emily.
If Elliott was my son I would have turned him in as soon as he said he wanted to kill Emily, he would also be disowned. I wouldn't protect him at all.

I'm sorry but as someone who lived with a narcissist and was married to one if they're nice to you after a fight be suspicious because they're going to try to kill you major Red Flag mine tried to shoot me he went out and bought me flowers because I caught him cheating and I told him I was leaving with our kid that I would let him know where I was so he could see us he showed up to my door at my friend's house with flowers in his hands and chocolate and I thought it was like a forgive me kind of thing well he fired 6 rounds of his 9 mm through the door it's a good thing I didn't answer the door he could have killed me and his only son?

This case breaks my heart. I do wish more parents would stop raising their kids in this entitled way, I wish more parents saw how damaging it is to "people please" with your kids " oh I want them to like me" no sorry you're the parent, liking is there for the littles and for adults but when you are raising them to not be shit heads you don't get to care about that stuff 😂

Thanks for all your hard work Rachel! What a heartbreaking case for Emily and her Family.... guys like this are total turds....and when we're young it's SO hard to realize how abusive these types of relationships are ( I spent from 13 to 23 in one ) . My heart goes out to all of Emily's friends and family ❤
I also was once in a one time incident abusive relationship and was put inna sleeper hold where I lost consciousness within seconds and I had no visable signs when cops were called of that incident- I did however a broken eye bone I aquired after I woke up and got punched dead in the face l😢 Lucklie I made it out of that extremely violent moment.. he was beought up on attempted nmmurder charges, they were dropped to lower charges and he moved away to do the same thing to another woman. Tgere should be an easier way to track preious offenders.
    Stay safe everyone ❤
