Volkswagen Radio Reboot Loop Fix VW RNS 510 Firmware Update

- This video is showing how I was able to fix my reboot looping issue in my 2014 Volkswagen Passat TDI SEL with the RNS 510 with navigation radio. I have owned this car for 3 years. The Fender startup screen has always been jumbled up since I owned it. The radio would usually start up after about 30 seconds. Recently the radio started to stay in the boot screen for longer periods of time. Sometimes taking as long as 30 minutes to boot up. I started researching online for a fix and saw that this was a common problem with the RNS 510. I saw that some people online said that they were able to fix the reboot loop problem by updating the RNS firmware. I googled RNS 510 Firmware update and was taken to Ebay. There are people selling copies of the firmware update disk on there. There are a few different VW firmware updates available so you need to make sure you are getting the correct version for your radio unit. Make sure you read the description in the ad to get the correct version. This video will show you how to check your current software version to see which update version you will need. I paid $10 for my disk so figured it was worth a try to see if it would fix my radio before buying an aftermarket radio. The video shows me doing the software update. It did fix my startup Fender Logo screen and the reboot loop issues. The Radio now starts up after about 15 seconds every time. I am very happy with the results. Absolutely the best method to resolve this terrible problem. I struggled with my system for over a year with the intermittent starting and stopping and the display not working properly. I was at the point of seriously considering laying out some big bucks for a new one. So I found the seller on Ebay and gave it a shot. For about thirteen bucks the problem is completely solved. I bought one from the scrap yard but it wasn't the same. The fender with navi is rare and has so many more plugs in the back. hope this works for me.

Thank you! I tried making my own firmware disc a year ago, but had version 5238 and it didn't work for me. I was able to find a download for 5382 and it fixed my continuous boot loop!

What if you can’t get to the screen where it tells you what version you have??
You probably need the 5238 firmware update disk.
@@anonunknown124 he probably cant even use the touch screen so might no be able to update if he cant press the 'firmware update option' once he puts the disk in...but for 10$ its worth a try

HELP!! I have a black screen that is stuck and draining the battery because it won't turn off. It says "Software Download - Source Activated - Searching for SWL Image".....dealership took fuse out so it won't drain my battery and only offered me a new radio for $6000.00!!!!!!

My radio loops as if it’s rebooting with a disfigured VW logo as well. But that’s all I see, I can’t get to the screen to find the version I have. Any ideas please.
This is the 2nd time the radio has failed. The first time it had an error read out about image something.

Hi guys got a 2013/14 multivan high line 4x4 in Australia. The screen goes from black to scattered VW start up screen like the vid here! I can’t control the head unit whatsoever it just does what I just said! If I order the CD and put it in will it just do the same as the vid here and unload its self and fix the issue ? If so great !! And where would u be able to order This CD from ? Anyone got a link ? Cheers guys ! 🙏🤙

I'm not sure if it will load the disk if it stays in the boot screen.
Hey, i have the RNS510 in my golf 6. It says Welcome to Volkswagen, do you think this will work in Europe aswell? Im from The Netherlands.
I'm not 100% sure. I would think it should work if it is the same model radio.

Nice video and commentary! I have the same issue and have ordered the disc. Problem is, the radio won’t load a disc of it isn’t booted up so did you have to wait until yours finally booted up in order to run the disc?
Not sure if you still have the disc but I just found out that if you hold the star, eject, and guide button it will force the radio into the install screen. I’m currently halfway through the download and my radio has been stuck on the fender screen for two years. I’ll give you an update if it worked after forcing it!
@@candoozoolack3799 I got lucky and reset it at the right time and it ran the disc without rebooting. It fixed it like new! Thanks for the reply
Mi problema es que se reiniciar cada 15 segundos, meto el CD y se reinicia constantemente antes de poder leerlo

This software won't work. It is for the RNS 510 only.
