The best way to reduce charring is to have a strong blast of air aimed at the point where the laser hits the wood. I used an old nebulizer and tubing and the only thing that I will change is to add some brass tubing to the tip. You will be amazed at the differences.
    1. Less smoke
    2. Lower smoke keeps lenses clear and clean
    3. Lower smoke and clean lenses speeds cutting because there is no obstructing smoke and more laser hits the target
    4. Way cleaner cuts with finer cut lines.

To whom it may concern at Sienci Labs; perhaps a Video demonstration of the Laser with the Air Assist in place and operating would provide better results and cleaner cuts. I am on the fence about purchasing a CNC and or a stand alone laser unit and I am definitely looking for North American manufactured for majority of the components. I like the Sienci Labs approach and think there is something here that I would purchase one machine that does both Laser engraving and wood carving via CNC spindle or router setup is interesting and has me wanting more info. Also interested to know if Long Mill can utilize a rotary axis For engraving via laser or cnc on cylindrical objects such as wine glass , drink glasses etc. ?

You should probably give a warning not to cut Vinyl, PVC or contact paper with the laser, it produces Chlorine gas when cut with a laser. Even if you have a setup like mine that vents to the outside it will eventually destroy your CNC with an acid gas. You can look it up on Google.

Yup, its included in the safety section of our Pre-order page, but I will make another video dedicated to general and material safety. I was a Co2 Laser operator for almost 2 years so I completely understand the concern.

Would there be any benefit to damping the wood with water before cutting to cut down on the black charring? Thanks

I'll try this out! My air assist should be finished very soon. I'll run some tests with that too. Send in a ticket with the word laser in it. It'll get sent to me and we can chat sienci.com/contact-us/technical-help/

With optimal use you should get 5000+ hours easy before replacing the diode is possibly needed
