- Keeley Moon Op Amp Fuzz
The Moon Op Amp Fuzz has its origins in the Dark Side multi effect but is tweaked for a tone closer to the late 70s Op Amp Big Muff, with hints towards the 90s Sovtek Muffs. It's got a massive character, with tons of low end and gain. An additional three way toggle, allow for scooped, flat or boosted mid range.

I'm not sure what impresses me the most: the pedal, the playing or the beard...all are fantastic! thanks, Bjorn.
Definitely doing any viking proud…just needs a helmet with horns.
@@JPMonstie Vikings never had helmets with horns.
I think it's pretty rad and have enjoyed mine. There is one remarkable thing about how silent it is for the wild amount of gain on tap.
Really love the fact that you can hear some bite from the pick attack. , thanks from Quebec.
Just got this pedal this morning from my GF for Xmas. Knew I wanted it after watching this video.
I own 4 Keeley pedals, they are great. I always have loved David Gilmour's bends, lead and sustain. Your video is great!!
Thank you!
I was just looking for demos to get a new fuzz when I see this in my feed! Perfect timing!
Thank you Gilmourish, Keep Going!
Keeley stuff is always so good, and they have great customer service. Awesome playing Bjorn, love the new album man.
Thank you!!
love how the open e string still fills the room and cuts through the mix with a good balance about 3/4 the way through. Impressive pedal, & I'm not a muff guy
That sound is in fact huge! Thanks for sharing.
Tremendous tone!
Bold tone no doubt. Thanx Bjørn!
Pedal sounds great. Thanx for the video!
Absolutely wonderful video. Loved it when you switched to the scooped mid. Thanks for making the video!
Thanks!
Very cool to see them make this available without having to buy the whole Dark Side pedal! I already own the Dark Side myself, it has been truly an endless box of tone.
Well done! As always, fantastic playing and explanations
Thank you!
Fantastic demo and sublime playing! Great job!
Thanks!
I love this demo! I subscribed instantly!! I have no idea how it is I’ve never heard you play before! Great pedal. Great playing! Great no nonsense but upbeat attitude!! Thank you!
Thanks for your kind words!
Once again Björn, Well played!
Thank you!
I solute the brilliance and passion of your work BJORN!! You are the best my friend.
Thanks for your support!
Wow! Thats really a lot of sustain!Cool playing too!
Just got this and I am more than impressed!
Huuuuge tone!!! 😍 My favourite BR fuzz review 👍 Thank you ☺
Thank you!
Awesome playing! 👏🏼🤘🏼
Thank you!
That scooped mode toward the end sounded very much like Gilmour’s first solo album.
Great pedal, tasty playing & Bjorn's accent reminding me of one of my favorite TV shows, 'Norsemen'. Perfection!
The demo and playing are wonderful. Thank you sir. The wet-blanket-over-the-speaker-cab is not my idea of a sound that works with anything other than drums, a treble-ed-out bass and a soprano. Again, the demo is excellent. I am a subscriber and a fan of this channel.
Thanks for your support!
Lovely in-tune bends. So important when playing in the Gilmour-ish style. Tasty playing!
Thank you!
Man going back & forth with this 1 & the Velvet Fuzz by Wampler🤷♂️🤘🏻🤟🏻
Sensationell !
Thanks!
Great playing cool strat
Thanks!
Really great tones. Does Gilmour to Pumpkins and Sabbath. Right now I have on older Red Muck as my Muff. I really like it.
That quasi-dog solo at the end was great! The pedal sounds immense. It also seems to me that it has a ridicolous amount of gain on tap. The selectable eq seems to do the trick of offering different eras of the big muff... Great playing, as always.
Thanks!
Great demo, as usual. This pedal seems like it can do the Gilmour fuzz/Muff tones, but also can get into Smashing Pumpkins and Black Sabbath territory. How would you say it compares with the EHX Op Amp Reissue? Again, great demo!
The EHX is much more raw and uncompressed. This one sits somewhere between the EHX Op Amp and Green Russian.
Been wishing for them to release this, as I don’t need anything else in the dark side. It sounds awesome. Instant buy.
It works well?
@@kacperkrosnicki Turns out, it is not the fuzz from Dark Side… its modded, and waay too bassy and muddy for my liking. Other might think it has improved, but I returned it.
@@Strangel72 understand , thanks for quick response
The look of this pedal is super classy I have to say.
Except for that _1980s high school yearbook_ outline rule…. Not sure why so many pedals ‘feature’ that.
Great tone and playing! Nobody did a better job at creating their signature sound than Dave Gilmour did!
Thanks!
Edge is another candidate
EVH. Jimi. Edge. SRV.
Was looking forward to this video 😃😎👍
Thought for sure you'd find some Animals tones...😉
😎👍❤🖖
My current band is doing a very late '50s to mid '60s retro thing, so the Fuzz on my board is a Tone Bender Style Fuzz, but I a was doing either a Prog Rock, or Doom Metal Project, I would want one of these. Also being an Op-Amp based device, I would think that it would play better than most discreet transistor fuzzes with my other pedals.
Best review of 2022. What Strat is that? The binding on that neck is awesome!
Check out this video I did on my guitar ua-cam.com/video/txZXa8y-plY/v-deo.html
I've got a muffuletta, I'm asking myself if I need this. Great playing as usual 👏 cheers 🍻
Always a new one! besides the case is so floydish! cheers
I think this might be a better choice, was not very impressed with the muffu' I sold mine!
Great demo as usual Bjorn. Being Op-Amp, does this pedal need to be first in the chain like other fuzz pedals?
Thanks! No, its not sensitive to other pedals.
Great sounds, great playing! What are your guitar volume and tone settings?
Thanks! Tone is full. The volume is usually set aroudn 9 to roll off some high end. I adjust it between 8-10 for dynamics.
Sounds tight, while able to cut the mix with the EQ options. One thing I wish my Russian Big Muff had.
Blues Driver -> Green Russian can give you some of that tone you crave.
Both on my board.
I'm not an expert but it sounds like the Electro Harmonix Pi reissue from which you also have a great video that made me buy it months ago.
Yeah, I think Keeley originally put the Rotten Apple Fuzz circuit, in the Dark Side, which was op amp, and simulate to the Pi, Pumpkin pedal.
Maybe DKV2 changed it a little?
Sounds excellent with the mid boost, and scooped. I just think there are other pedals that can do this, and function more like a full low ended Fuzz as well.
Deep Trip BOG can get these tones, and it can be dialed as a Fuzz Face, or even a more scooped Muff tone. Their Muff a Saur pedal does all of the Muff things, even better. I’d get their Muff, a Pharaoh, the JHS Muffaleta, or get the Vick Audio Violet Ram’s Head or any of their Muffs.
Beautiful bends and tone Bjorn, Blues Driver used here also?
Thanks! It's only the Moon with a bit of delay. No boost, compression or EQ.
great sound and jam. would it be possible to share backing tracks?
Thanks! I'll keep that in mind for future vids. There's also a backtrack page on my site gilmourish.com.
Thick! Sounds like it will be good for Iommi tones.
Sounds great! I can’t make up my mind between the keeley moon or the vick audio 73 rams head. What would you say are the strengths and weaknesses of each?
The Moon is a no mercy over the top fuzz/Muff. The Vick is perhaps closer to the original Muff, with less gain and low end. The Moon is surprisingly silent.
Off topic but what beard products do you use? Great video. I may have to add this to my collection.
For my beard I use a bit of compression, a hint of EQ and whenever I'm in the mood, I sprinkle it with an Electric Mistress.
@@gilmourishofficial LOL
@@gilmourishofficial😂😂
Wonderful tones! Now for contemplating: Does this need a home for a basement guitar hobbyist that already has the Dark Side?
It's very close to the Dark Side but the 3-way mids option makes this more versatile I think.
Thank you
Bjorn! Is this different enough from the Keeley Fuzz Bender to warrant the buy? Through the UA-cam compression, this sounds pretty close to the tone I currently have dialed in on my FB. I've been using Gilmourish for years and didn't realize you had a channel! Thanks for all you do!
Thanks! I would say that a Tone Bender and Muff have distinct differences but they both do that high gain fuzz tone. This sounds much more like a Muff though.
@@gilmourishofficial thank you!
It likes lows but fizzes out in the highs. My friend has one and I was really impressed with the fat lows but couldn’t get it to hold on high notes. It just dies.
Just get a big muff.
Oh man so man questions. Is this the same fuzz as in the dark side? Because I already have that. I might just buy it for a collectible though because I love Gilmour. I also have the op amp and rams head big muff. And last but not least…. How in gods name are you getting that much sustain from a strat lol
My Strat has a lot of sustain but I'm playing very loud for this demo too :) The Moon is based on the Dark Side but tweaked for more of that Big Muff character.
Definitely sounding Gilmourish 👌 love the sound the pedal produces . Now I'd only want to know the price and if my previous experience with Keely pedals usually they sell at $299.00 usd
It’s $149
@@rorschach1 is that $149 Canadian or in usd $ ? And of course there's taxes on that right ?
@@dannyfournier6657 USD. No one uses cad as an international metric.
@@rorschach1 what i meant was it in Canadian funds or American funds and I think you stated American funds , no Canadian funds are not metric in fact they are stable in comparison to the American greenback but Trudeau has crapped on everything Canada was great for and now he's turned this country into a communist state , a very sad situation. If someone was to pay $149 usd a Canadian would have to get that evaluated into our funds which I'm sure would come out being $200 + so I hope the new Keeley toy makes it to the general market soon so the markup will taper down .
@@dannyfournier6657 give it a rest, Danny. nobody wants to hear your politics in a pedal review.
Sounds great, Bjorn. Have one on order now! This is going to sound noobish but I cannot for the life of me place the Floyd licks/riffs/tracks here, can someone help? I've been on a major Rush kick for the better part of a year now so my Name-That-Floyd-Song skills have waned...
Thanks! I've recorded a backing track loosely based on Time and Any Colour You Like from Dark Side of the Moon. The two last parts are mine.
@@gilmourishofficial Fantastic work, it's familiar but different enough to be original. Love it!
Hi Bjorn, is it the first Fuzz to go to…for fuzz dummies ? Thanks and keep on rockin’ 🥰🎸
Depends on what sort of fuzz tone you want and what amp you’re using. Fuzz can sound horrible on the wrong amp. In my opinion the Rat is the most versatile fuzz/distortion. This Moon fuzz is great though and works with a wide range of pickups and amps.
Hi Bjorn. One thing that baffles me, is how's David Gilmour able to get the nasal tone from his guitar? If u listen to hey hey rise up, it sounds a lot nasal, how's he able to do this? I tried boosting the mids a lot but not really getting that tone? Need your guidance
I think it's a matter of how the amp is miced and the fact that he's using the Yamaha RA200 rotating speaker cabinet on that track. Or at least so it sounds. It's always hard to tell for sure how those nuances in the tone are achieved and created.
Hello Bjorn ,I have the « Dark Side « pedal(excellent) ,should i get the « moon »pedal ?is there a big différence between? Thank a lot Bjorn.
Not a huge difference but the Moon has more of that Muff character and lots more low end and gain. Depends on what type of fuzz or Muff you're looking for.
@@gilmourishofficial thank a lot Bjorn for answer and last question, have you already meet Mr Gilmour??
Hi Bjørn. I REALLY need the tone of song called "SHORT AND SWEET", Written by Roy Harper And David Gilmour which finally recorded in the cold winter of Super Bear studio in France. if you try to looking to your old stuffs and finally show that tone by the recording of video and if you kind, It's really Makes me so Happy, altough Gilmourish not gets uploaded since 1 month! Thank you!
Were does all the long sustain come from on the single note’s
My guitar, I'm playing loud and this pedal.
Sorry if I missed it but what are the Delay and reverb?
No reverb. For delays I’m using a Binson Echorec plugin from Pulsar Audio.
What other gilmourish guitar players do you know/ recomend?
Andy Lattimer, Steven Rothery and even some 80s Billy Gibbons.
hello bjorn, are you planning to come to Istanbul with your band?
I’d love to! Such a beautiful city!
Is this pedal released yet? Can’t see it anywhere to order? (Uk)
I think it's a Reverb exclusive.
Thanks
Hi. Do you have any original music i could listen to?
Check out my albums released under my name Bjørn Riis and with my band, Airbag.
Just wanted to know: was this the only pedal, or was there something else in your signal chain?
This is the only pedal apart from a bit of delay and the Past FX Elastic Mattress flanger on the last solo.
@@gilmourishofficial I’ve tried to locate a dealer for this pedal. But with no success. Could you post a link? Thanks
How does this pedal compare with the Wampler Velvet fuzz
The Velvet is much smoother, more compression and mi range.
So is somebody at Keeley a big Pink Floyd fan? That's two pedals now based on Gilmour's tone. 😄
Fine by me they are putting ‘David Gilmour in a Box’
Keeley ROCKS!!!
Is that a laney lionheart?
Yes.
What's the song in the intro
It's a short excerpt I recorded years ago as an intro for these reviews.
Have you tried the Dark Side?
Yes, did a review ua-cam.com/video/NUM9uyilZzU/v-deo.html
What's the song in the intro?
It’s a short snippet I recorded years ago.
You could go make a cup of coffee and that sustain would still be going
So… basically HALF of the ‘Dark Side’?? (Sans ‘modulation’??)🤔
I HAVE the ‘Dark Side’, I’m not seeing the value in investing in this one….am I right?
No, not really. This is more like a Sovtek era Big Muff made into a monster. The Dark Side fuzz has much less gain and low end.
It would be better for Sabbath than Floyd🤘
The pedals are great, but alot of your tone I feel comes from the way you specifically use bends. It's hard for me to separate your great technique with the actual sound of the pedal. But that doesn't even make sense because I can't expect you to play like an amateur just so I know what the pedal really sounds like..
Sorry 😅
I had this pedal. I was not impressed by it at all. It was very, very bassy, and was much too muddy for my liking. I loved the fuzz in the Dark Side but the circuit modifications they made to this unit made it much worse in my opinion. Very disappointed with this one overall.
John, I'm very glad you tried it, especially since you know the Dark Side! The Moon Fuzz is very bassy compared to that fuzz, yes. We designed this one to be over the top, with a very aggressive low end. I wanted it to do the Gilmour super fat lead tones, but with the Sabbath or Pumpkins -type multi-tracked chord tone. We didn't have anything like that in our pedal lineup, and the core tone that we developed with the DS was the perfect starting point.
@@RobertKeeleyTV maybe a high pass filter would be a good addition to this pedal.
@@GabeHelma I did think about that, but wanted to keep it very simple in form...and I wanted people to have that larger than life, super massive tonality. (ps, that's the idea behind putting a tube screamer/klon or treble booster in front of it, I let the player put a high pass filter pedal in front of it! ;-)
@@RobertKeeleyTV good point. I rarely play pedals without stacking 1 or 2 in front anyway 😆
@@GabeHelma it was a very pleasant surprise that it stacked so well with other drive pedals!!! XD
Great demo, although I don't understand why this pedal is born...they had the Rotten Apple and I asked directly and they said it was basically the fuzz side of the Dark Side. This, they say it's the fuzz side of the dark side...but then...it's the same pedal with another graphic. I wish someone had both to compare them!
I just found this on a forum. This is the reply of Keeley customer service about the pedal being a paint job: "It is completely new design but its closest relative would be the Rotten Apple, yes. Both are Opamp style Fuzzes for sure. In comparison its pretty different though and overall its just MORE. More gain, more natural sounding bass response, more volume on tap, more sweepable tone response without losing so much of the bottom end etc. TBH about the only things that are "less" on the Moon Fuzz vs the Rotten Apple is the noise floor and the price. lol!"
Hope this helps :)
