No , I am supposed to retire now at 74 I won't make it. Sad day in America when coming from another country pays off better!! I have been working since 16 yrs old .
The bigger problem is your entire government is bought off. The amount of money we spend on military and corporate interests in insurance, pharmaceutical, medical, oil, is several times over more significant than what we spend on migrants.
it's always been that way. Come here from another country, work, take the money back home. why? because life is unsustainable here after a certain age, unless you work forever or are sitting on a stockpile of cash
You ar depressed
Bjorn you have bipolar disorder i think
I feel your pain. I`m 64 and there`s no way I`ll ever retire.
"Start saving" is funny when I hear it.... this economy wiped out all my savings.. its all by design. Knowing why and what is coming just helps you to prepare for the mental and physical struggles on the horizon. Best of luck to us all...

So true, if you had 250k in savings in 2019, that same 250k is realistically worth about $175k now. Even high producing ETFs and mutual funds can barely keep up with inflation. So unless your 250k in saving grew to 325k you lost money. Most people’s saving just get erased or devalued by inflation

Gonna renounce my American citizenship and leave the Country and then re enter as an Illegal and register Democrat then I can live for free in America
The amount being spent on these illegal migrants (which I disagree with) is still a fraction of our military spending and the money we essentially hand out to privately owned banks, insurance companies, and big pharmaceutical/medicinal companies.
Corporate greed is the problem in America, not political affiliation like the elites make you think. It’s all a big distraction so they can keep stealing your own tax money from under you under the guise of “free market hurr durr”
Or trump , don't forget the republicans favour mass immigration too they just want it made legal and rubber stamped

Soon I will be downsizing a decent property and house that is all paid for and much too large now for my needs. I am moving to a much smaller, more efficient home in an area that is much cheaper to live in. Minimalistic is my new philosophy, and most of my effort and time will be spent outdoors.

You saved your money and invested it. Now you’re enjoying a well-deserved retirement. Meanwhile, 98% of the people here are complaining that they’ll never be able to retire. Some of the people complaining have advanced degrees and still don’t have two cents saved.

I retired at 60 and am now 79. I believe one can make decisions that move one toward retirement. I have always owned an economy car; I have never owned a smart phone, a dishwasher, a cable television subscription. I have lived in modest housing. I have limited costly vacation excursions--trips to Japan, New Zealand and Peru were made without dipping into savings. I don't mind buying clothes from thrift stores or resale shops--that is a philosophical decision based on the waste, extravagance and other-directedness I see. I am aware that there are young people who would say that my life is not a life worth living, completely unsatisfactory. My point is: there are possible decisions. It should be apparent that I have freedom as a result of being able to save a sum of money.
You sound like a wise person. What sort of work did you do, and how do you spend your days now?

Most people have heard of the Danish king of England, Canute (Cnut the Great) who according to legend, tried to command the waves. However it was his father Sweyn (Svein) who was the first Viking king of England. Sweyn Forkbeard, England's forgotten king, ruled for just 5 weeks. "
I wonder why his publisher refuses to publish them in English.
Personally, I'd love Mr Hansen to read his books in English as audio books. ❤
I would be happy to buy and read his books in English also. I am 🇺🇸
@@DogBeast221, ask Bjorn, he did mention reasons why he did not accept their terms iro translating and publishing his books in English.
In Australia we have government enforced "superannuation" pulled out of our paycheck. Thing is, original age you could claim was 60, then it was 65, soon to be 70, which is the average age of morbidity for men. The government is literally stealing their people's pay cheque. As well we are taxed at 60% overall. Why work?
most young people won't live to see retirement as there's a big war coming
Lets hope so
Yes, the Civil War 2.
So sad
@@ModelJames13there is a big difference between a revolution and a civil war. Always remember that . The revolution is what we need. ( assuming you are a US citizen)
@@NCrdwlf At this point in time both would serve a purpose.
Here in Australia, retirees own their house, pay all their associated taxes but can’t afford to buy proper food, sometimes fuel for their cars.many are now working in their 70’s
Sure you can retire. I retired 9 years ago at the age of 40. Nine years later I pretend to work on my 20 acre homestead in the forest. Zero debt. People can't retire because they trust the government with their retirement. Invest in yourself and yes you can retire and fairly young. Don't waste money on superficial stuff. Don't accrue debt. If you count on the government for anything you deserve what you get in the end.
^this. 👏

Peoples are trapped in the consumerism cirle and are buying everything that the marketing is showing to us … Of course you can not retire if your mindset is to want and buy all the stupid things that the corporations come on the market , things that you actually don’t need so much … The change is in educating us not to be trapped in this endless desires of goods to make us feel fullfilled
for sure! canada is the same..yes we have winter so solar is the keys
Was watching an economist the other day and he was saying ( if you are in US) , burn your sick time , use your vacation and start taking SS as soon as you can at 62. Leave ‘em with nothing . Time to quiet quit . . I’m not feeding the beast anymore, it’s time for the homestead lifestyle and checking out of the rat race . . I’m in the airline industry and work as few trips as I can . I go to work about every two months for 6 days . I can do that until I’m 65 when they force retirement on me . Or my airline gets sold off by some capital investment group.
Economy crashes -> Your savings including pension Is gone -> The state will only pay you back in CBDC currency
This is one suggestion on how the new economy could be implemented from VVhitney VVebb

Having retired in 2020 I am quite happy. While I was working I set up a private pension fund. My advise to younger people these days is set up a safe private pension fund.
Bjorn, im a 30y old resident doctor living almost on the minimum wage. I work at least 55 hours per week.
Studied for years only to get a slave wage with no respect for my work. Im feeling a bit lost… it doesnt worth it..
They got you :/
You'll be fine eventually. For now, suck it up. That's just part of the program.
Live frugally. You can live on very little. Shop 2ndhand. Forage constantly. Dont waste food. Grow all you can. I'm 74, retired at 58. But I live well.
@@lubyard6057 its not that i dont save money. I save money but im already living like a student since 10 years…and this isnt life.. 10h per day working only to get home and repeat it the next day.

Stop buying crap you don't need with money you don't have and then retirement is again possible for a lot of people.
you cannot save in a system which is about to fail. you cant save in things, like shares, which are denominated in dollars i.e. - invest time, not money in bitcoin, why it was invented.
Thanks. May want to rethink your wardrobe for this…sitting in those skin coloured pants…
I am a lady who is turning 39 in late December. I may retire in my mid/late 60s, according to the current Italian laws. But they may be different, by the time I got to that age.
I know it may sound nihilistic or anything else, but I'd rather die instead of seeing them. At least, if I die before my 70s, I have no longer burdens to handle. That's the only comforting thing and it isn't nice. I live with my parents because living alone is impossible. That's my only luck.
I bought land all around the American Southwest. Mostly New Mexico. I plan to go off grid and repair old bicycles and set them up for long distance travel. I did fairly well in life but one thing I've learned about retirement is don't have a television in your house, have many interests and stay active in your interests. Don't let the internet or television hypnotize you into becoming an armchair anything.
Yes, I plan to retire, but not in the West.
Welcome to a small minority of people who know whats best.
@@spudnikkx1112 I've been traveling to SEA the past 10 years. I'd have a better life in nearly every aspect there than in the US. I'm 55 and within a year or 2 I plan to make the move.
You must leave soon before they make travel abroad impossible.. the window is closing
You will. But you will not be able to buy anything with your pension because hyperinflation. If you think that we have inflation nowadays you have seen nothing yet.
I've adapted to my position now at work. At first, every cell in my body dreaded getting up to go to work. I had to grit my teeth and drag myself out of bed out of sheer willpower. Now, I've grown to enjoy my job and position at work. Gotten close to my coworkers, and other vendors I work with. We tell stories and joke and just shoot the bullshit. Also, talk business, which makes us stay grounded. Gives me purpose now. Now, it's not so hard getting out of bed. Adaptation is real, and makes things better.

There is a solution which is obvious but ignored. Women start having babies again. The babies grow up to be the future tax payers.
I retired at 50, after working my b@lls off so I could retire at 50.
We sold everything and brought a small piece of land with a derelict cottage and restored it.
The secret, is to clear yourself of all debts, invest in things that are safe, give small but guaranteed returns, live within your means, get off the grid and become energy independent, don't rely on the government for anything and remember cash in the bank is dead money that only earns for the bank. Sure keep some in there but your money is far better invested in either yourself or physical assets.

Start saving young and invest it over the longterm,Figure out how to adapt to a changing world and reject a lot of the rampant materialism and consumerism that keeps people poor.
8 years ago, I started buying Bitcoin. Next year I retire.
Similar story for me. As a general principle, I'd say to people to invest rather than save, as savings lose value due to inflation.
@@BishOnTheRoad too risky, one day Boom it's all gone...........sad....
Ya retire ya expire. What ya going to do ? Getting sick is and not being able to work is a different problem and that is likely at some point.
Without money that will pass on to me when my parents pass away I can not see a way I can retire.
Same for everyone that has less than 40 years old I think.
Retired in 2020 @ 52.
Time is your greatest asset.
"You can't buy a minute & don't get yesterday back."
I was born in 1959 in Australia. From the time when I was a child I knew I wanted to retire at 40.
I started work as an office clerk at 16 and studied at night to be an accountant.
I was a tightarse. I wouldn't spend money on anything that wasn't absolutely necessary. All my savings went into buying a block of land and I did this at 19.
My father and I with the help of contractors who I paid ( other than my father's time, nothing was free ) built my house.
I still live in this house.
I paid off the house when I was 25.
Every cent I earned wasn't wasted but went into the mortgage.
I worked full time at a job I hated but then retired from full time work at 36 to travel the world with my wife. This is something we had both put on the Backburner up to then.
I've never owned a fancy car until now.
I still travel domestically and abroad with my wife, I'm now 65 nearly 66.
I'm proof that an ordinary person in a safe western country can achieve middle class with hard work, patience, focus and initial sacrifice.
You've gotta have a plan.....
It looks as though governments around the world are simultaneously positioning themselves to impose an increasingly higher carbon tax on everyone's home.
The older the home, the less likely you will be able to afford to keep it, through expensive green required modifications to meet increasingly tighter tolerances.
Most people dont have a plan and most importantly a budget. If you dont have and keep a budget you will get nowhere financially, and will forever be chasing your tail. Always spend far less than you earn no matter how little you earn. It is doable. If you want something so badly you will make it happen.
I guarantee you most Western European states would eventually come to blame Putin - for not being able to maintain their social security and retirements funds. Putin will get blamed for Western European countries not having any competent economists in their government.
I am going to retire next month, at the age of 47.
If Americans are counting on social security for retirement, they are cooked
