Thank you very much for the support Keith, it really means a lot to us 😀 Also really glad you enjoyed the video! Since we're all in lockdown we had to recycle some old footage, so we hope it was still informative 😉
Hi guys, thanks for this lovely video. Being more into fly fishing, my favorite spots are Elgro lodge and Eendekuil. Very nice white water for lovely lively lovely yellows and muddy s. Accommodation is good and reasonable. Good for day visitors as well. Very safe and beautiful. At Elgro you can also book a trip on a 2man rubber boat where you drift 10km downstream and fish all the rapid s in the area. Great fun but you need to be fit because of the large areas of still water where you to row.
Hi Fred, I also love flyfishing (czech nymphing) for yellows in the Vaal River among the rapids. I've been to Eendekuil, and we also go to Eastco next door. We've also been to Oord Nebo which I think is near Elgro. Unfortunately Linky is not a big fan of this because she understandably finds it very difficult to wade among the rocks, so we never do that anymore. But the boat hire you described sounds like it might work for her actually...
Yes unfortunately :-( We used to love camping but we had some bad experiences and it's just not safe anymore. So we save up our money and pay a little more to enjoy our weekends away. Camping probably still makes sense if you're are staying for longer periods of time (like a week), and also if you're staying on a dam (like the Vaal) where you can camp closer to the water level when the dam is low. But we often go away just for a weekend and then we have no time to waste setting up camp etc., and at the river the water is always near to the accommodation :-) Thanks for watching William, really glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Pierre, we've wanted to go to Vosrite for a while now, excellent fishing we know, but the camping thing held us back. We heard there was a cabin too but couldn't find much info about it. I guess we'll do some more investigation. Thanks again for the tip, and for watching 😀
Thanks Wolter! Really glad you found it useful! And yes, we couldn't agree more, the Vaal River is the place for beauty and big fish, our favourite combination 😬
Hi Brandon. We do normally show what we use in our individual videos, check those out for more info. This one was more of a compilation type video so we didn't add that kind of detail 😎
That's a coincidence! We only recently found out about this place and we were actually looking for more info about it. We'll definitely check it out, thanks 😬
@@Anglinks hi. So I just start to river gosh and find it sad that o haven't caught anything and spent so much of money buying dops and floats. Please forgive me for being simple minded but I am a bit confused. Just so that I understand please help help with these. 1. Do u really use pap and if you do where do u put the pap. 2. The top tjop are you using tjop tjop floats and dip. The strawberry jam where do u out that and is the yellow perdeby is that a dip? I'm so sorry for asking this but I need my luck to turn around. Lollll
Hi Leon, yes they are, we've been there as well. It's a little bit run down now but you can tell it used to be very nice. While we stayed there we did notice they were busy with renovations so it might be great now again 😀
Thanks for the feedback. There are 2, the game ranch and the conference facility. If you are talking about the Goose Bay Canyon Game Ranch, what a pity.
Yes, we stayed at the game ranch, the conference facility is to the north I think (as you probably know). For what it's worth here's our blog post on the place, just to add some nostalgia :-) www.anglinks.co.za/2017/02/goosebay-canyon-vaal-river-feb-2017/
Hi guys love this vodea, exactly what I'm looking for, a nice chalet on the banks of the river.... You mentioned that The Dell you were at the wrong time and wrong cabin.... It looks like you're at the Visarend cabin (I actually just enquired about rates for it on their website) so just curious as to why you say it was the wrong cabin.... Really don't want to go all the way to the vaal and blank
Hi Anna, We were there when the water level was perhaps slightly lower and there was a decent current as well making fishing very difficult. Visarend itself is a wonderful chalet, very private, perfect for a couple, with a neat fishing area. But I think the water in front of Visarend is the shallowest water The Dell has to offer which is a real shame. Maybe it's different now but I think if fishing is important to you I would not book that specific chalet. The rest of the accommodation has a sort of a quiet bay in front of them which is better for fishing. But at some of them you have fish from a platform which isn't great either. I hope that helps...
Hi Yureshen. There is actually quite a few places in the barrage area. All along the barrage there is accommodation and you should be able to fish at all of them. One place that we know of is this one, facebook.com/Vaalview/. Another popular spot is Abrahamsrust. The only problem is the constant boats but should be better now in winter...
Hi Paulo, La Retraite is excellent and they have actually expanded quite a bit since we were there. They now have more chalets and a larger fishing area, and the fishing seems to also just be getting better if we look at the reports on FB. We stayed in both the original cabins (we were with friends) but now there are more options.
@@Anglinks Thanks, am always looking for new venues and battle to find. I mostly fish dams and not rivers. As its always me fishing I would battle to scoop the fish from high banks in a river so always worried about that. I nice place for good catches is Klein Plaas on the Vaal dam, only problem is that there is no toilet so take an Imodium before hand :). People camp there no chalets, I've got a slideshow on the place on UA-cam more than welcome to look at it. Will one day do a video but difficult to fish and film on your own. Also want to look for a venue that my wife and daughter can join they don't fish, so as mention difficult. Maybe one day we will fish together. I learnt a lot from Loutjie Louwies and his friend Hendrik. Am also an amateur fisherman, social fisherman
Oh ok, well all the places in this video would suit you and your wife\daughter, they are very comfortable. The only place that has a high bank which becomes difficult to net the fish is Vaal de Sioleh, the rest have terraces right to the water 😀 Cool, I'll check out your slideshow now...
Hi Awonah. No, I don't think any of them are. But we always practice catch&release, especially for the bigger fish. You don't have to but it makes sense to release big fish so they can be caught again and keep the population strong.
Hi there. That's really difficult to say, it depends on the conditions. But our goto flavours will probably be banana, caramel, or any of the cinnamon varieties like perdeby. When it's colder or at night you want to rather use stronger flavours like garlic and TCP.
Hi Wolter! We haven't been to either place yet but we've driven past them a few times. We are hoping to go there in future. Dimalachite seems like a nice place, we often see people catching lots of fish there. Hakuna Matata is less well-known but their chalets look very nice. Do you have any advice for people going to those places?
Dimalechite is a nice place, landing fish is difficult, need a long handle on your landing net. Barbel bait, any thing, even floats. I do papgooi only, and caught carp on tjop tjop floats, with tjop tjop, strawberryjam and yellow perdeby on ball. Muddys, dough with garlic.
Thanks a lot Wolter, that's very valuable info. We'll be using those baits when we go to Dimalachite 😀 We papgooi as well but we are starting to do specimen more and more, you catch fewer fish, but much bigger!
Hi Wolter. No, we really haven't stayed at a place on the Vaal River that didn't feel safe. I think almost all of these kinds of places should be perfectly fine :-)

Hi, my favorite spot is Eendekuil. Lots of species to taget there. Nice venue with lots of shade ect.

river view is a must visit had a very good fathers day weekend last year (2021) caught awesome fish and will visit alot more new venues
We still haven't been there but we hope to visit it soon!
Great video and stunning list of places. 😀
Thanks a lot Cindy! 😬
In the main ski channel near the barrage next to the reed island. Not many big one but a good fight and good numbers
Thanks Ryan 😬 We're not entirely sure where that is but we'll have a look on the map. Is it above or below the barrage?
It is above
Ok thanks a lot, we'll check it out 😬
