I have dabbled in piano for most of my life and now into retirement take it more seriously. I still have difficulty with reading the music and appreciate your videos. My advice is to take advantage of the many piano books currently available which have helped me tremendously to play better. A good teacher is complementary. Videos often serve as a worthwhile supplement for the reasons you have stated.
Thank you for this! I’m getting started trying to learn. Currently 19 and most of my friends have lots of experience playing. I just love the peaceful sound the piano gives off so that’s one of the reasons I love it
I love that!!! Agreed, the piano is a beautiful instrument and so many different styles of music you can play on it! What have you learned so far? I think it’s linked in this video but I’ve got a free workshop that will show you a simple method to get started playing from scratch. You might find it helpful as you’re getting started! You’ve got this!
This is excellent. I started at age 66 with a 66 key keyboard that had built in lessons, I see from this video alot of what I did and didnt do was correct. Even the fact that my goal is not solos but as it has turned out being part of a group. In fact I am the band leader (and the least experienced). I prefer organ to piano, but the techniques are much the same. I had worries about not hands-on practicing enough but I see now my daily doses of youtube looking at how to's have added to my performance without me realizing it. Oh my preferred music to play - - classic (60's) rock and blues.
Good video! The only thing I somewhat disagree with is the 88 keys. I started on a 61 Key Piano, minus the weighted keys, and when I went to lessons, where a "real 88 key" was used, the feel was disorienting. So, Weighted Keys is a must. The range of a 61 Key Piano is sufficient for most casual players, I think.
Depends on what you want your journey to be, one of the first pieces i learned was Debussy - Reverie, and i probably wouldnt have attempted it and it wouldve been really disheartening to me if i didnt have 88 keys.
My keyboard has 61 keys and Im just starting out! I do have a piano but its in storage at the moment and I am about to move, so I have to wait a while before I can move to a real piano lol
i bought a yamaha 61 keyboard with lighted touch sensitive keys for just learning on as a beginner senior citizen. i got plenty of time to learn on some days and not so much on other days of the week. I watch 2 videos and I like this style of learning starting from scratch makes sense to me
I'm an old man beginning piano. Being retired I have the time. Long long ago I was in the brass section of our high school band, so I already know how to read music. The best part is I don't have to use my lips.
So, I am a long time guitarist (I can read music) that just inherited a 61 key "arranger" keyboard. That's all fine and dandy but how do I play it? I know you recommend 88 keys, and I get it, but will the 61 keys be good enough for your tutorials and workshops? I'm not looking to become a pro. I just want to learn some songs and perhaps do a bit of composition since, when I noodle around, I usually "discover" some phrasing or passage that I'd love to explore. What say you? I might add that I cannot comprehend pounding they keys with both hands!
@@ThePianoPath Hi! I've been practicing the Turkish March, but I think it's a bit too difficult for me. I can play more than half of it, but struggle through some of it. I will find something slightly easier to play. LOVE your channel! 💕
Hi! The ebook inside the bundle includes links to some videos, yes! After you get the bundle, there’s also an option to upgrade to Kickstart Piano which is 14 days of piano lessons with more in-depth learning :)
Love this, thanks for sharing. Just wondering where is the free ebook link? Also I kind of disagree on the wrong piano to get started on, if the keys are hard to press instead of easy, your not yet strong fingers get sore and tired much quicker than if you had an easier to play piano, and then you get frustrated and quit. I learned this the hard way - I only learned that there are awesome easy to press keys by casually tapping on a friends keys when walking past it and was immediately in love 🤣
Hi! I don’t offer the ebook for free anymore actually (this was from last fall). Lots of differing opinions about the weight of the keys. Some say you should start on a weighted keyboard, others say semi-weighted. It’s whatever works best for you, the key is to just start! 😊
@ThePianoPath thanks for your reply. I was originally told weighted keys meant it would make a louder sound the harder I pressed on the keys & so it was necessary to make good music... I guess that isn't true?
Hey Breanne! I followed the 5 minutes a day tutorial, after watching this, and now realized that the keyboard I bought only has 49 keys😅 Is this a dealbreaker? I found myself already missing space in the low keys in your 5 minute start.. Btw thank you so much for these videoes! I’m 20 trying this for the first time!
Definitely not a deal breaker!! You’ll probably want to upgrade eventually to something bigger, but there’s lots you can still do with a smaller keyboard. And yay!!! So glad that you’re here and enjoying it!!! 😊🎉
Even to play at an amateur level you need a lot of practice, you need technique, hand placement, fingering, basic music theory, ideally know the notes, etc. I wouldn't stretch your training over many years just because it's a hobby.... it's better to push yourself in the beginning, when you have a lot of desire, ambition, when your eyes are burning...

@@ThePianoPath I know basic songs like happy birthday and Mary had a little lamb but I only know the keys, not too familiar with music notes yet

I m 56. I have been learning piano for 14 lessons so far. I liked it.

I love your way of learning, you know, I waste my life for nothing, but finally I found you and your wonderful channel :) :) :)🥰🥰🥰❤💘
Sooo helpful! Thank you!
You're so welcome!! What have you been playing/learning recently at the piano???

I query about 88 keys. Have you ever used the top or bottom octaves? No magic, practice and persevere, Easier as a child!!
I would add another item to your two piano characteristics: it is the sustain pedal!
Yes!
Can relate, you are good
Heyyy! Thanks for watching!! Are you learning piano?? let me know what you've been playing recently!
You’re the best
does the bundle linked in the description include videos? is this the only bundle that u sell?

At 1.00: correction!! IT DOESN'T MATTER what kind of piano you buy AS LONG AS IT IS ONE WITH 88 KEYS(instead of 66).

Buy the most expensive piano you can afford. The best piano for learning is said to be an acoustic piano. Don't buy cheap synthesizers - they're crap.
Lots of talking
well, it’s my channel and i can do what i want 😉 but also, do you normally watch UA-cam videos where there ISN’T talking? Lol.
