Really well put- this is not a plane for beginners, which is why pilots flying this would have progressed up from (I think) a Stearman, and a bunch in between before they saw combat in one of these. Discipline, throttle control, knowledge of the your own AND enemy planes, and tactics are all key to allowing the package to perform as intended.
Wow thanks for bringing the perspective of flying with American planes. I always wondered why american props always got out maneuvered by other nationalities on warthunder... I didnt realize that American planes were mostly designed to be used in a more strategic way!
I def think that American props are extremely difficult. I always liked the Yaks the most, as they have exactly what I want in a plane. And subsequently, 9/10 times I see a P-51 in my Yak-3, I think "free kill". However, the rare ones that sideclimb and retain their speed, they always get me
@plainkiller0136 and I'm going to be honest, I'm just not good with American props as a whole. They were designed in real life to do a mission they don't do in War Thunder
what do you think of the p51s in general? because every mustang has its own thing and I find it hard to look through all the small details. But for example the D5 is ofc the first mustang with a bubble canopy, the d10 has octante fuel or higher mp (I am not sure anymore) the D20 had the better stabilized tail and the D30 has the better WEP. Is that all true? maybe you know some things I dont and maybe im even wrong about something
@degrees7097 In general they are good aircraft but only on the right hands. The D5, D10, and D20 all fly similarly but the D10 can dogfight more reliably than the other two due to its increased horsepower. I believe it has a higher manifold pressure rating. You're thinking of the P51A. That one has high octane fuel. The D30 has a stronger engine in both full throttle and WEP giving it a much better climb rate and acceleration bringing it closer to a 109 in terms of how it functions in game. Now H is a whole different beast. Thing really needs to be 7.0. Fly it how you want essentially

@conradkaplan1579 im the same way when I see P51s 9/10 so I don't blame you.

@conradkaplan1579 That's the problem with trying to bring real life into a video game. A lot of things just can't be accounted for.
