Hey man. I almost never comment but I wanted to let you know you make great videos and have a great outlook on life. I feel similar and also struggle a lot with ADHD, but I find we think similar and these videos sometimes remind me to not shy away from my thoughts and feelings, even if I'm in the minority. Keep it up brother.
i made three albums worth of music in three years that no one listened to. i was making it to pursue a dream. once i started making the music to feed my soul, THAT is when people actually started listening. i think we all owe it to ourselves to sort out our intentions. really hope this channel reaches more people.
Thank you for this video (I get a big Allen Watts vibe from you), and thank you so much for the reference to Vivian Maier's photography - love exploring new artists and their work!!
You're absolutely right! Something that is also true is that in current WoW, many people don't even care, nor do they acknowledge some of these temporary mounts/titles or whatever. Maybe at the start of the season or if you have something truly legendary you MIGHT get a comment. We do it for ourselves, and as someone who has KSM mounts, for example, I don't care if someone gets them in a different way. Me obtaining those mounts was not the true reward of the process-I improved as a player, as a person and have that simply as a reminder. If someone else gets it, it would mean something else to them. We collectively need to move past this concept that keeping things from others boosts you up, where it's truly the opposite. And also, the disservice it does to the artists who create these cosmetic items, too. Imagine working on them for a long time and knowing only a handful of people can enjoy them. As someone who creates 3D art projects, this would upset me.
i feel like if youre proud of your effort and you enjoy having the thing you have, then other people shouldnt matter. i also just hate the idea of 'i suffered for this, so other people should suffer too!', like no, i suffered and it sucked and i think people shouldnt have to go through sucky things just to experience a little bit of joy or satisfaction at the end. but thats a hot take apparently like with the allied races. they used to take a whole lot of effort to get, and my brother complains that theyre way too easy to get nowadays. i had tried to get them back when it was more difficult but i just didnt have the time, and by the time i got around to it, it was much easier. and yet i still enjoyed my time getting them, and i enjoy playing them! i dont even like things being harder, i know a lot of people do but i just like to take things easy and chill yknow
Your videos are very comforting in a way I cannot describe. I think we have very similar outlooks that are often misunderstood by others. Sometimes people act like I am crazy due to my passions and outlooks. I have struggled with severe ADHD for many years now and have been ostracized in many ways by family and friends. But when I watch your videos it's like I am listening to a friend speak, someone who hits the nail on the head every time, I could listen for hours.
I think the same can be said for content creation, as well. Like if you do something amazing in a game or something funny happens while you're playing Skyrim, or you're having a blast with your boys. You could have recorded that, edited it, and uploaded it. But, I even have to remind myself, I should feel good about any of that regardless if I caught it for a video. There is nothing wrong, at all, with just doing that without thinking you NEED to upload it. I think social media and content creation, as a whole, kind of puts that in the back of our heads sometimes. Great video man.
This video hits close to home. For a long time I was belittled for the things I did, the stuff I owned and I tried to please people who did not realy cared about me just to get some praises, so I lived for prestige to show of to others. This went on until I got betreyed by those whom I cared about. After the betreyal I no longer voiced my accomplisments as much and I only did things for myself and help others to achieve what I did and be happy for them. This new mentality helped me be a happier person. (Maybe this is why I resonate with your content so much)
You continue to impress my with you viewpoints and how they relate to WoW but are good in general. I've watched all your videos so far and now I am a subscriber. Thank you for being the WoW content creator I didn't know I needed.
hey thanks for the great thoughts. I find you relatable as a gamer/artist etc and your outlook on things is really refreshing in this youtube space of hustle grind culture etc. Brings me peace, thanks
Ironically enough, I used to get stressed out about taking pictures. Everyone does it, and if you can't show a picture, you don't have a story to tell - or at least that's how it seemed to me. Nowadays I attend events and go on vacation for myself, not just so I have a story to tell. Be it alone or with my significant other, the memories are what matters, not the fact that I can boast about having done something "special".
YES. THIS. I did the nightmare and waist of time, got my original mage tower weapon and farmed and allllll the secrets of Azeroth because I enjoyed it! It was what I did to relax and enjoy myself. I got cool stuff, sure. But I did it because playing the game and figuring things out is FUN. Premo outlook, my good man. Thank you for posting your very thoughtful thoughts, as usual.
I said it before but I love your stuff man, it's really got me thinking about what I've been doing recently. I just picked up wow because of your videos and I've been thinking much more about how I produce my art. Thank you so much for putting this out there
Great video as always! I've recently started living more authentically: making things for myself, living for myself, not to just hit certain targets or goals. Very refreshing!
do art for yourself , an art you enjoy .. whether people like it or see value in it is just a secondary reward. external happiness from other people opinions or validation is extremely unsustainable . i love the video cuz it resonate with me alot.
I started working on the Farewell to Arms achievement. I want that Jani mount, because I really enjoyed those quests. I've been really enjoying the progress though, surprisingly, or perhaps unsurprisingly. It's reminded me of when I started wow and the fun I had back then. I started playing during Shadowlands prepatch, or just after that. But I didn't buy Shadowlands. Instead I went to play BfA. And really enjoyed myself. The War Within is the first expansion I did "current" content with. Going back to BfA though has been an absolute joy.
I agree the process should be an intrinsic reward, but the problem is that if we as players perceive that blizzard will just keep making all the achievement-based stuff easy to get, we won't feel like there's much point in even starting the achievements to go get those rewards to even make it to the point that working through the achievement becomes its own reward. There's a ton of stuff in WoW and outside it competing for our time and attention. That's the peril of just dumping rare/difficult stuff into our laps after the fact. We can now almost always bank on blizz making it easy later, which means... don't do the majority of content and wait for the easy button, which means people stop playing or trying, which is bad for the health of the game long-term and which makes it feel cheap and easily discarded. It's not that we're just jealous that other people got something for free or whatever; it's that it creates large-scale apathy towards content and rewards until the game starts to hemorrhage active players and engagement, which is when games tend to die.
What if she never published photos because she thought people wouldn't be interested. Perhaps that being able to make a living out of it instead of working elsewhere would have changed her perspective
It depends on what you mean by "nothing". If you mean people don't do things without wanting some sort of extrinsic reward then that is false. A lot of activities are done just for the pure joy of doing them. And if you aren't experiencing joy or excitement doing said thing, but rather feel resentment then that would be a case of doing it for nothing and you should probably move on. But what I think the video is about is doing things and activities for the intrinsic reward. The enjoyment of the act itself. Such as hiking a mountain trail. There is no pot of gold at the end of the trail. But people will do it for the sheer enjoyment of it. And that's not for nothing.
@@philmehrart Idk, maybe I am narcissistic, but I tend to at least WANT to share the most of my experiences with people, even videogames, that's why I like to tell the stories how I play, share screenshots and record videos sometimes. JUST play into the void feels almost like a waste of time for me. Btw I think one of the reason why I had more fullfilling time gaming when I was young - because I could tell my friends in school how I played games yesterday and hear their stories as well. Social component is one of the main drives that makes games fun I believe. And I say this as a die hard single player games fan. The same goes for most activities. That's why instagram is popular.
@@LobsterFusion I always do things for reward only. I work for money. I work out to see gains and feel physically better in the moment (try to not workout for a week or two, you ll feel like sheet). There are less obvious rewards, but they are always there I believe. You get at least something for what you doing, especially if it is something you like. You like it for a reason
And yeah, I think art is literally impossible without any form of social component. Even if you play guitar alone in your room (which I did a lot) - at least there is some projection into the future, "maybe someday someone will listen"

We have some weird magical connection that's causing you to make videos about all of the things I'm thinking of. It's freaky. Thanks.
You are making some of my favorite videos as of late, look forward to all of the uploads thanks man.

Yes, that's a good mindset, great video once again 💯🔥
Very positive way to explain the concept. WoW players could generally benefit from dialing back their ego.

Wish for memories., not for things.
Imagine renting Invincible...
im struggling with my art right now. i want to make a youtube channel about my progress with art but I wonder if its good enough.
It is and you should. ♥️

I agree with you but if they give away invincible for free then I would be mad. Jk xD

No, nobody does anything just for nothing
Yea they do, hobbies, perfect example. Playing WoW, you're doing it for the enjoyment, doesn't have to be productive or anything
