- This Video should bring back memories for those who remember the endless MGR Trains that ran from the Collieries to the Power Stations in the 1980's. Mostly Class 56's on this Video but also shots of Class 20's and a 37. I hope you enjoy watching
brilliant,just relived my childhood spotting with one video
I’m probably driving one of these trains lol . I was a second man at Barrow Hill from 1980 to 1990 when it closed then we all moved to a new depot at Worksop along with Shirebrook men after there depot closed.
East midland rovers practically every other week during the summer holidays during the early-mid 1980s. Great times

Super video.
At school it possible to see two railway lines. The east coast main with HST's on and in the distance was another line which mainly was used for coal. Looking back I must have spent hours in various boring classes avoiding learning crap I have never needed to know, trying to occupy myself by counting the long coal trains being dragged by the Class 56.

Great memories. Made several visits to Retford in the 80s
large logo 56s absolute hellfire always liked that livery ever since I saw 56124 blue circle cement parked up at the old man vic in about 1987 or 1988
fantastic footage! brings back memories of Retford low line and tons of coal going through and seeing 56's and 58's
sadly this is a thing of the past.
Looks like Cottam has used all it's coal and shut down the fire for the last time as I drive that way most mornings and no emissions from there for the past week or so.

FreightLocos has it finished there mate? I was going to have a look up there,my old man worked there as a welder when I was born,worked all over the country but cottam was his favourite job,he’s gone god rest his soul and I’m 50..
@@replay68pete14 I was told by one of their staff that they would close in September 2019 or when the coal ran out and for the past week and half I've not seen any smoke from it so I'm guessing it has shut :(
Cottam is indeed closing back end of 2019 and West Burton soon to follow.
@@phillipradford2873 Only the coal side of West Burton. The natural gas side isn't.
Doesn't seem that long ago that they put the de-sulph plant in

What's happened to the sound quality?
Can't find anything wrong with the sound, that's as it was in 1986! Different camera & sound on the final bit at Retford.
