Allinol was meant to be this new alternative fuel to fossil fuel and the best way to show it was making the best racers across the globe race using it, yet the Lemons and Miles planned to make it ignite so that it looks like Allinol and other alternatives looked bad and the world would go back to the usual oil. Their actions were necessary if they wanted to succeed. Hell, they fully planned killing Lightning in London but Filmore managed to replace the Allinol Fuel with his own alternative fuel since he never trusted Allinol to begin with, hence why he didn't explode.

Honestly, I think what they went with was even darker. Thinking that you are about to see a kid movie about a goofy sidekick and then seeing an on screen spy in the opening, then soon after seeing that same spy compacted into a cube is pretty surprising and dark.
Dude, ngl. Hearing the metal grind and seeing his tires pop got me a bit queasy. Its not the scene itself but the imagining of a vehicle having the feelings of a human, and watching that human be crushed to death.

But seeing how it was actually done….I suddenly appreciate why Pixar cut this scene out from the final product…that was just too dark and traumatizing for the average child audience. I thought the smelting pit from Thomas was bad enough growing up cuz if anything was to fall into the pit the whole thing would melt down anything that was dropped in the pit and reduce to molten metal. But now seeing a car getting crushed flat while it was still alive only seeing the light getting snuffed out as the machine folds down with the vehicle still inside now dead and thin as cardboard…..I might need to go outside and touch some grass…..
