Just so mind numbingly beautiful in every conceivable way. Sometimes it's almost hard to listen to because it brings me back to a time and a place and yep "a gal" and I feel a bit overwhelmed with all the memories and emotions. Gushy sentimentalist stuff I know.
The first time I saw these guys live they opened with this song one of the most amazing songs I've heard live 2 day later I went out and purchased every Album I could find
What do the men say? To the women when they lay down at night All naked of arms from the old imagined fight And how do the women hear? In kind and in likeness of light In kindness you needn't, and neither do I We are both of us capable of flight And as if to give proof..... She jumped through the hole in the roof What did the condemned say? To the blessed when they met on the path "O' you take the low road and I'll take the high...for a laugh" But if I'm laughing now it's beacause I've a gentle heart And because it was true, he slipped through the hole in the roof La la la la la lalalaa From above your head a thing can be read that you're thinking What the secretaries sing and the CEO's bark in the bars What do the dead say? To the ones who still think they're alive With your heads all on backwards you can't see in front for what near behind you lies "Show us some help then!!" Above your head let it flicker the light These ones that I'm with have not learned to forgive your necessary alibis When they made you love money And the poor profit stock When they poisoned the water sheds and fashioned our arrow heads from the deep forbidden rock O' but did you see what people do? And when you saw it you did it to Now all of your children are twice the size of you And they come in at night through the hole in the roof.....
From the moment I heard this song, I knew this band was different, and good. Lyrics to think about, get your mind around. "well they poisoned the watershed"
Coming from the UK in 2000, I thought I had heard it all, I thought that there wouldn't even be decent computers here, I thought that they were "still building Brisbane" - I had seen a lot of bands, Radiohead, New Order, Talk Talk, to name a few, and I thought that "we" knew best. Turns out, that I have never heard this unique masterpiece bettered - in construction, or writing, or any of that other **t as a matter of fact. No band had me so captivated, even after following all those try-hards in the UK (granted, go back a few decades, different story) - but this was the best thing I heard/have heard for a long, long time.
Sunset Studies has been a friend to me for a long time.
... and years, and years again...

I love it as much as I did 20 odd years ago. Timeless.
This is a goddamn masterpiece
Honestly, the greatest Australian band EVER!!!!!!!

Keep coming back to this well.
Listened to this since it came out and just realized what it is about.
This song is so beautiful omg
I love this song so much. It evokes a very special atmosphere for me, thank you Augie March 💕
For me it's like the world has moved on but the atmosphere hasn't been reproduced ever since. I will always come back to this.

This song is magical, and it's nice to see upstairs of Bakehouse Studio before renovations.
💕 My fave of Augie March 💕
Me too :)
Such beautiful music and poetry. I agree with pinsinmyneedle, the way the song gathers momentum is amazing!
Glenn looks so young. Bless. Unlike his haircut, though, this song is timeless.
