the major distinction i make with them , u watch classic if u want to see more exposition and wandering from place to place but if u want more action u watch modern doctor who 2005 - 2017 at least. chibnall's to RTD2 seem to bring back the classic feel a bit with the more exposition and wandering so far so we'll see how the new era goes.
the way I see it is if you want depth in your storytelling watch seasons 1-14 of the original. If you want cheap thrills like a rollercoaster catch some of the revival. If you want fanservice watch the 80s. From an objective standpoint, it seems pretty clear the original is the best, but for light entertainment the revival is pretty good and far above the majority of what else is on TV at the moment.
completely agree with series 5! absolute best series of nuwho without a doubt it has the perfect mix of high stakes and funny moments ESPECIALLY amys choice the weeping angel two parter makes the angels even more frightening as they can actually kill you rather then making you live to death which wasnt even that bad. and the finale is beyond incredible. The reveal of the whole scenario being amys childhood memories is SO well done however, the big bang falls off a bit because all of the doctors enemies are no longer surrounding him and hes only being chased by one, barely functioning dalek but who knows that might change as ive just started rewatching series 5 🙂

Great video, but difficult to watch from the sofa on a small-ish TV. On the other hand, I will enjoy watching it again on the computer up close. I agree with about 90% of the choices.
New Who can be great, but too often ties itself into pretzels over fannish concerns, lampshades some of the silliest elements (rather than accepting them, ignoring them and moving on). it tries to be more "realistic" with "real" reactions to the shows concepts, but too often just highlights the inconsistencies in character and settings. When the new show steers closer to old Who, it smashes it. When it plays with the formula, it can go either way. When it tries to mash the old formula around the 'feels', it does both a disservice

I actually think Rose Tyler in Series 1 is a great character. She devolves dramatically in Series 2 however and its strange to see. Just jarring. The finale is good though.

Now what if biregeneration had been written as the by-product of solving the metacrisis meaning that you could get rid of that "non-binary" "let it go" "male presenting Time Lord" ragebait bs AND have a credible explanation for bi-regeneration AND have the metacrisis having lasting consequences as a result - have it occur earlier in the Giggle so that the Giggle is a proper multi-Doctor story, skip that whole TARDIS cloning mallet thing and have Tenant solemnly give up his TARDIS to Gatwa. If it had been done like that would it still have been the weaker choice?
I asked my dad about this since he grew up with classic who, he refused to answer because he doesn’t like favourites but i think the case is that mostly, the people who grow up with classic who will prefer classic who and the people who grew up with nuwho will prefer nuwho.
Im currently watching classic who but unfortunately im having difficulty because of the pacing, i am quite young and have grown up round the Internet and i do have the common case of the brainrot so i prefere the pacing of the 2005 reboot. I am enjoying classic but so far i prefer new who
I feel for classic who you need to have a different way of watching it considering it’s old 😂 just looking at rose and an unearthly child, there’s a pretty big difference. Not sure about the newer side of classic who as I’ve only seen up to the 4th doctor(in season 12) and yes I’ve seen the tales of the tardis but they’re shortened down so you can’t exactly equate them to their classic who full story counter part. Also ever since the start of this year I’ve been watching about the equivalent of a nuwho episode per day starting with an unearthly child(including multi doctor episodes where I watch an episode multiple times throughout the watch. 1 example being where I watch twice upon a time at the end of the 1st doctor’s era then rewatch it when I get to the end of 12s era) and what I mean by equivalent of a nuwho episode is that I watch 2 episodes of classic who per day as that’s around about 1 episode of nuwho in terms of how long it is in minutes. So far I just finished the space museum today which is currently one of my favourites. I’m also including spin-offs. Also when are you explaining why Matt Smith is a fraud D:
Reason i dont like series 6 opener is because almost every single plot point thats introduced is resolved in the most unsatisfying way ever. On its own it is good though.
Never really watched classic who aside from the best episodes in my opinion such as cyberman episodes like attack of the cybermen and silver nemesis and remembrance of the Daleks
Bland, underdeveloped and uninspired. Riffing on better stories and bringing little to nothing new to the table. Couple that with a garbage redesign and bland characterisation for the Cybermen and you have a rushed mess with a resolution that makes you wonder why they even bothered.
I don’t think I’ve ever been so personally offended watching a video before, when you decided to throw series 8 finale and most of series 9 in the bin 😭 I think we need a video on Zygon invasion/inversion At least you liked hell bent
Why would it be a bit, the episode is comically, ridiculously, cartoonishly bad. It literally stumbles at the first hurdle and the rest is a bizarre self indulgent fever dream. Not even Timothy Dalton can save this one
@@dwfan91- I can think of tons of worse episodes than The End of Time, F tier episodes should be ones with no redeemable quailites as there's no tier lower. I cannot for a second believe that you think the whole story has no redeemable qualities. Its a two-hour story and in all that runtime you don't like a single thing about it? At worst I think its a mediocre episode but definitely not F Tier.
@@Comicbroe405 nah it’s sadly accurate. There is absolutely no redeeming qualities about the new Who stories. The only thing that is mildly interesting is the acting of the various Doctors (minus Matt Smith, he’s just plain awful).
I honestly must say that until recently nothing was as bad as 80s Who ,YES there'd some exceptions but my gosh the recent 60th specials are and were sadly worse than the entire 80s content ...gutting , but from Eccleston through to end of Whittaker there's probably only 12 stories I don't like much most are from Tennant era admittedly ...but alas ...Moffat, 60s and 70s Who , Eccleston and most of Whittaker eras are my top tier for me ...and end of McCoy at a push ... But yes I think I rank most nu who top tier ... And if classic who had each story edited together a 90min episodes or something it would be easier hehe but alas it's all gravy
@@dwfan91- I think the whole Monk trilogy was rushed and uninteresting. If they'd set it up sooner, maybe had the whole first half of the show take place in the simulation, it might've been less of a flop.
@@CyberController- I genuinely think it could've been amazing and that they had enough time to fully take advantage of it (3 episodes is a long time) but they flopped with the execution so badly. I think the main issue is the pacing, the lack of set-up, the terrible execution and the poor thought that went into Pyramid at the End of the World. Yes Lie of the Land is the worse episode but I think the blame lies on Pyramid for not setting up ANYTHING and forcing Lie to try and resolve everything in a rushed 45 minute snoozefest
@@CyberController-granted, Moffat was writing this at his mother’s literal deathbed, so it’s understandable he wasn’t up to par with his better stories.

When you do the Shada animation video please cover the Ian Levine version, it gets little modern coverage despite it leaking and existing in the wild.

Out of the 179 New Who Episodes you put on the Tier List:
3 were in S+: 1.7% of New Who
24 were in S: 13.4% of New Who
23 were in A: 12.8% of New Who
30 were in B: 16.6% of New Who

20 were in D: 11.2% of New Who
18 were in E: 10.1% of New Who
23 were in F: 12.8% of New Who
Assuming C is basically the Mid tier with the tiers above being good and the tiers below being bad, you have 44.7% of New Who episodes being good and 34.1% of New Who being bad with the remaining percentage being mid. The overall average quality of New Who is at C-Tier.
Out of the 160 serials of Classic Who (plus the movie) you put on the Tier List:

30 were in S: 18.8% of Old Who
25 were in A: 15.6% of Old Who
8 were in B: 5% of Old Who
12 were in C: 7.5% of Old Who
3 were in D: 1.9% of Old Who
4 were in E: 2.5% of Old Who
1 was in F: 0.6% of Old Who
You have 87.5% of Old Who being good and 5% of Old Who being bad with the remaining percentage being mid. The overall average quality of Classic Who is S Tier.
By this metric, Classic Who, on average, is better with 66.9% of Episodes being S-Tier or higher compared to New Who's 15.1%.
If we combine both eras giving us 339 Episodes we have:
80 in S+: 23.6% of the show
54 in S: 15.9% of the show
48 in A: 14.2% of the show
38 in B: 11.2% of the show
50 in C: 14.7% of the show
23 in D: 6.8% of the show
22 in E: 6.5% of the show
24 in F: 7.8% of the show
64.9% of the show is good, 20.4% of the show is bad, and the remaining percentage is mid. This places the overall quality of the show as a whole at B-Tier.
But we're not done yet, what are the mathematical tiers of the seasons and series' based on average Episode Quality (They're also ordered from highest quality to least within the tiers)
S+: Season 7 and 8 and 10 and 14 (Same Score), Season 1 and 11 and 12 and 13 (Same Score), Season 2 and 5 (same score), Season 4 and 9 (same score)
S: Season 3, Season 6, Season 25 and 26 (Same Score), Season 22
A: Season 20, Series 5, Season 21 and Series 1 (Same Score), Season 18, Season 15 and 17 (Without Shada) and 19 (Same Score)
B: Season 16 and Series 3 (Same Score), Series 4, Season 17 (With Shada) and 2013 Specials (Same Score), 2023 Specials
C: 2022 Specials, Series 6, Series 11, Series 2 and 12 (Same Score), Series 10, 2008-10 Specials
D: Series 7, Series 8, Series 13, Season 24, Season 23, Series 9
Finally, ranking the Doctors based on their average episode quality
S+: 3rd Doctor, 1st Doctor
S: 2nd Doctor, 8th Doctor
A: 4th Doctor, 5th Doctor, 9th Doctor, 7th Doctor
B: 6th Doctor, 14th Doctor, 10th Doctor, 11th Doctor
C: 13th Doctor
D: 12th Doctor

I asked my dad about this since he grew up with classic who, he refused to answer because he doesn’t like favourites but i think the case is that mostly, the people who grow up with classic who will prefer classic who and the people who grew up with nuwho will prefer nuwho.
this is true for star wars as well
“Doctor Who ended in 1989” and “Classic Who is too old and boring” are both equally cringe takes and I despise them both equally.
Im currently watching classic who but unfortunately im having difficulty because of the pacing, i am quite young and have grown up round the Internet and i do have the common case of the brainrot so i prefere the pacing of the 2005 reboot. I am enjoying classic but so far i prefer new who
My advice would be to watch 1-2 parts a day. Maybe only 1. Watch it like a UA-cam video while you eat or something. It's actually very fun!
@@dwfan91- thank you I'll take this into mind later!
I’m someone who has grown up on nu who but as the years have gone by I’m massively baised towards classic who
I feel for classic who you need to have a different way of watching it considering it’s old 😂 just looking at rose and an unearthly child, there’s a pretty big difference.
Never really watched classic who aside from the best episodes in my opinion such as cyberman episodes like attack of the cybermen and silver nemesis and remembrance of the Daleks
does anyone know where I can watch Classic Who in Spain?
archive dot org :)
So I started with nu who first and then delved into classic who. Classic who is better in every way. Except for the pertwee and Davidson eras.
Was wondering why you placed Rise of the Cybermen/Age of steel so low? For me that's a classic.
Bland, underdeveloped and uninspired. Riffing on better stories and bringing little to nothing new to the table. Couple that with a garbage redesign and bland characterisation for the Cybermen and you have a rushed mess with a resolution that makes you wonder why they even bothered.
No, that’s a new who.
Another banger
You're awesome
I don’t think I’ve ever been so personally offended watching a video before, when you decided to throw series 8 finale and most of series 9 in the bin 😭
I think we need a video on Zygon invasion/inversion
At least you liked hell bent
I don't like talking about those episodes
Don't pretend to be a fan of classic Who if you don't like the Timeless Child. I said what I said.
Classic is way better. And this is coming from someone who started with Nuwho.
Now rank all the spin offs, VNAs, Comics and Big Finish
Show fell off after they left Totter's Lane 😮💨
WHATS. UP. EVERYBODYYY.
As a series 9 enjoyer....ouch
If you can believe it I am one too
At this point I genuinely can't tell if you hating the End of Time is a comedy bit. Its such a bizarre take, it has to be.
Why would it be a bit, the episode is comically, ridiculously, cartoonishly bad. It literally stumbles at the first hurdle and the rest is a bizarre self indulgent fever dream. Not even Timothy Dalton can save this one
@@dwfan91- genuinely don’t get how the end of time is so loved
@@Scaroth1979 i remember when it was a widely accepted fact that it sucked. Nostalgia really does cloud the past for some people, I guess
@@dwfan91- DINNNNAAA TIIIIMMMMEEEE!!!!
Love it 🙌
torchwood
5:31 CYBERMEN ARE GREAT
They are you are correct😔
I was raised on NuWho and I can tell you for certain. Classic Who is better
You’re wrong. Still love the content though
big new earth fan?
@@dwfan91- yeah but way more important is that I’m a massive husbands of river song fan and you VIOLATED it. That’s just my opinion tho ❤️❤️
@@solidsnakebutaduck84 I suppose new earth and husbands are around the same level. You are right though husbands is probably better
The tier list seems to skip a few. I noticed the Satan episodes and love abd monsters are missing
Oh wait you just skipped them
I edited out the ones where I didn't have commentary for them
LETSS GOOOOO
Goated video
ERIC
yessir
New Who can't hold a candle to classic Who. The New Who actors are fine, but their stories are dreadful.
True
Dreadful is an insane take.
There are some based takes here 👍
Thank you king🫡
@@dwfan91- My pleasure 🫡 great video. I'm obsessed with making tier lists
Pyramid at the End of the World? More like BORE Ragnarok
they set up something so amazing and gave us something so mid
I love your videos, but please stop saying the Chibnall era is in any way good. The Timeless Children is a clumsy, badly written and badly executed load of.old tripe.
thats most of modern who too tho
