I wish you all the best on your farming adventures on you 12 rai less house and ponds.
I have 60 rai of land, tractors, ploughs, harrow, rotavator, trailer, rice thrashing machine etc and still cannot make a profit.
In fact we only farm to give work to the villagers and I concluded that anyone under 50 doesn't want to be a farmer.
I would suggest that you grow food for yourself to eat on your land and sell anything extra at the local market as opposed to looking at it as a revenue stream.
Maybe put some fish in that pond.

I've started to follow your channel 6 months ago when we decided with my wife to relocate to the countryside...
we already got a big house there on a 12k sqm2 yard, and we also have 50 rai of lands into the village, just 3 minutes from home. We're moving in after Songkran, but I've looked at your video carefully, 'cause it's going to be a discovery for me to live in the countryside all year long...
You're really helpful for those like me who'd like to start this kind of adventure... I can guess that you're located in Nong Bua Lamphu... we're gonna be neighbors as we are moving to Loei, at just 2km from the border of Non Bua Lamphu's province.

    Trial and error.
Variety of vegetables/fruits. Variety to see what grows and sells. I would be tempted to have 2 or 3 bits of produce rather than leaning on 1.
I wouldn’t be tempted to put all my eggs in one basket or mango’s in one box.
Best of luck with it. Will be interesting to follow your progress.

I finally subbed I'm the guy from Chanthaburi I have 2 types of mango trees ! variety is called " hoke long " comes once a year old style golden and good size and "choke-a-non" also golden and has 2 crops a year and I also have lemon tree's I smuggled in my bag from the states years ago and they love Thailand I got lemons almost all year and they produce more than we can consume . My wife recommends lemons over mangos because mangos are all over Thailand lemons are not and they are the next cool fruit to have and my lemons love water more than mangos but maybe a mix of both and feel it out both take about 4 years to produce maybe sooner with some fertilizer . You could always get my line or email I back in the states for 4 months working i work on ships half a year and Thailand the other half I've tried every business to stop working in the states yet I'm still working in the states !!!!!!!!!!!!

Love everything you're doing and have already achieved. I'm looking to do something similar so to see you do it first is a far less risk taking project for me,so blessings for that. My only concern is the archway leading to the pond and watching you duck underneath it. Please heighten it by 1ft -you won't regret it when your 80. Hope the farming pays off as it's pretty gruelling and time consuming as you already know

Hi Ben. Love your channel. You might be onto something with the mangos. We have 20 mango trees that produce about 2000 Lbs. of mangos a year. Thai love the elongated sweeter mangos they use for sticky rice. The other more common once tend to go for cattle feed. Another thing about mangos that you may already know, they can be easily graphed with a small branch about the same size.
Just a thought here on your flooding issue. I had our main house area raised 1.5 meters before building. It is an area about 3 rai and it took about 5 days to do but was very affordable. You could raise your mango field and not have to worry so much.
    Good luck and enjoy!

Probably depends how much you want to lay out before you start, you could put them in concrete rings. We have about the same size, we grow fruit and vegetables for ourselves and give stuff away to friends but this year we had an excess of Noi Na which we sold. We didn't make a lot, maybe 20000bt but my wife enjoyed selling them and it paid for my beer for a couple of months 😊.

Ever tried growing papaya? People tell me it needs a lot of water but I've grown from seed in Bangkok and Rayong and had a lot and very big fruit within a year. Other than that mangoes does work but could be 5 years before a good harvest, lesson I learned, don't cut it to make it look nice, just let it grow wild, cut it and you are back to another 5 years before good crop. Hope that helps

have you considered mangosteen they are a good seller and i would diversify growing 3 or 4 types of fruit as a cash crop on such a small scale your profits will be minimal, perhaps better to grow for your own consumption and sell any extra, again the floods will be a big problem but i would have that big pond full of fish each year and sell off before the floods come, tilapia grow quick and are popular for eating not sure on the price they get at the moment but i'm sure there would be a small profit in them, get someone to throw a net into the pond there will already be some wild fish in there i would of thought, see what's there if anything, thanks for sharing look forward to your mammoth blue pipe adventures cheers

Hi good idea with the mango tree but if the water does not receed within 10 to 14 days all your mango trees will be dead. I sadly saw the huge amount of mango trees of 20 years plus all dead in the province of Singburi and Utai Thani and Nakhon Sawan décimated during 2011 floods . Another issue why are you not using the cheaper spécial black plastic pipes and perforate them with small red plastic sprinkles? Much cheaper than the bleu pvc pipes and job essily done. In Nong Bua Lamphu can find them in global house or Thai wasadu. I live I. loei and share the same farming passion but on a much smaller scale with a small fish pond too. I wish I could see you and share out expériences, as I live rather close to you in Loei province. Welcome to my place anytime!

Your comment on certain végétation not being good for anything shows a lack of understanding of the overall importance of organic matter and compost .
To avoid policy mistakes ,loss of effort ,joy and finances ,study more about appropriate gardening/farming . Land being prone to flooding ,especially that close to a river , suggest well selected fruit trees as main and easy crop ,with far less work involved .
Mango trees ,apart from their fruits ,do have an increasing market for their beautiful wood .
Another design would be to create raised beds close to the house ,for enhanced security of your vegetables and under cover of higher growing plants with leaves .
As westerner living in Asia ,as I do since decades , it is of great mutual benefit , if you make an obvious contribution to neighbors and district . Looking at your set up ,following mutual benefit dynamic comes to mind . Create a professional drying facility on your land ,for your own farm goods and for others use .. Despite seemingly ease of use adjacent to your house ,I would build it apart , for it to be used by others as well ,without disturbing you .
That would provide you and others preservation technics for your produce and thereby extended shelf life and income opportunities . Lots of it can be done by DIY and solar power , with sometimes extra electricity drying ,to reach long shelf life dryness % ,which has to be measured properly and each product packed accordingly .
If ,in your area , they still burn plastic trash ( as unfortunately so many do in Asia ) ,you might consider making a DIY plastic trash recycling machine , regaining useable fuel ,or and
new plastic items like roof tiles and so many other items .
For info and free online training check plasticodyssey.org ,a French company ,having fitted out a trawler with many professional plastic recycling machines , traveling the world ,cleaning coast lines ,educating and inspiring locals ,to recycle plastic trash . They provide free online training on the subject and likely free DIY building plans according to needed size .
Be smart ,create mutual benefit dynamic , benefitting environment, locals and yourself
