Hershii must be one of the most likeable Queens ever on the show.

So they brought up an element us fans don’t think about: cost of participating on the show. My goodness… especially if you have kids! Early on in this episode, I am learning sooo much!
My youngest is 14 and I remember the struggles of affording diapers, but, damn!, now a box is $50? I could get a box of Target brand for $14.99.
I'm not a parent but I remember my aunt's and sister buying huge boxes of diapers at Toys R Us for $20!! 50!! Now damn that's a high increase

Love this interview. Hershii is confident, candid, and vulnerable. When she left the show I didn't worry about her, she's so likeable and talented that I felt she would be fine. I was sad because I felt like she had so much more to show, but that's always the deeply unlucky situation for the first eliminated queens. But she's so likeable, that I don't associate her with being the first eliminated, she's just a queen who was eliminated. Respect to you, Queen Hershii Liqcour-Jete! I'm working on my drag career too, hope to see you preform someday!
Totally agree. This has been one of my favorite interview Maddy has done. Honestly i knew little about Hershii and i am soooo happy to get to know her better through this show.

I swear when drag race first announced the queens of s16 I had hershii as my FAVORITE TO WIN and when she went home first I was beyond shook 😢
She had NO business being in the bottom when we had queens for another couple weeks that gave us NOTHING and barely existed on the screen.

Getting the call to go on Give it to me straight is far more significant than getting the call for drag race. Drag race is simply just a stepping stone. This show has shot queens to super stardom including Latrice Royale and Alaska.
When Hershii was talking about putting herself in a box and realizing she needed to go further than she had been allowing herself.. I can't really put it into words myself, but I found that part very touching and inspiring. That was a moment of reflection and real growth.
I love the Maddy is platforming the early outs because they are just as talented and have so much more to show ❤
I'm glad she brought Hershii on. She was so funny and lovely on here and can't wait to see more of her. And idk why but when she said her kids say when she gets in drag, "Oh you're going to work?" That made my heart smile.
Holy shit, Hershii comes across INCREDIBLY well in this fantastic interview. I have a new favorite S16 queen! She's such a grounded, interesting person and I loved hearing everything about her story.
Hershii is SO charismatic, and she's right - if more performance stuff was up-front, her run on Drag Race would have been SO different.
I also loved that they talked about the cost of performing on Drag Race. I literally have NO idea how people who aren't from rich families/aren't designers and seamstresses survive on the show anymore with the level of fashion and quality of garments expected. I think it's such an under-appreciated barrier to the show nowadays and Ru's "I don't wanna see any f*ing H&M" bit didn't help, honestly.
Hershii has so much self awareness. It makes her an absolute delight to watch. I hope nothing but good comes her way ❤️
10:51 this is such a great point/subject. Especially that the contestants all come from different levels of circumstance. It would be interesting, at least, to see everyone preparing off of a stipend or something. Even that playing field a little

We need to normalize this behaviour and demonize shitty ass comments that just quote or respond to moments without timestamping them
I have been preaching this FOREVER! So many times I see Queens that have wealthy contacts that purchase elaborate drag for them and my thought is who can compete against that when you come from a small town somewhere? You can absolutely be the most talented but lose because of costumes. I think there should be a set budget that's paid for by the show so that there's an equal playing field.
I really think the show is big enough now to give the girls budget. But we all know Roople is a capitalist who doesn't care about the girls' struggle
Drag Race should give the queens a costume budget to prepare for the show. Seeing contestants put themselves in debt to pay for looks while the show is raking in millions is really disheartening. My blood still boils thinking about Michelle telling Chi Chi "you don't need money girl"... like are you fucking serious?
Yes. As chi chi had TWO jobs plus being a drag queen. Made my blood boil, too. When was she supposed to find time to sew? Or get or afford lessons to be as good as a designer people pay ! Even if you can sew not everyone can design. And also buy fabric etc isn’t cheap. Or buy a machine! The ignorance and lack of empathy. But that’s Michelle.

I'm so glad that someone is bringing up the costs in depth.
I went deep into debt 3 times auditioning for downunder 3 times.
There were days where I didn't eat just so I could afford more material, more heels, wigs etc.
I bought my cats their food for the week and then I spent what I needed on materials and hoped I'd have money for food afterwards.
Keep in mind that we don't get tipped in New Zealand, we get paid in peanuts.
I found out after a break up that I am HIV positive, and my reaction was exactly the same. To see others thrive and have these conversations is so impactful. I have nothing but love and respect for Hershii, especially now. ❤️

I actually appreciate how honest she was here. It's very easy even for me as a person who was recently poor to critique drag queens as if they have all kinds of money to be doing all these fancy things. As if I didn't know how bad things used to be for me. For some girls it's a Blessing to get on the show at all and, Ru from what I've seen on world of Wonder app, tries to give them a career of some kind.
No lie. Listening to Hershii talk about her family and the support from her partner/husband, makes me hopeful to have that kind of love. Now Hershii you have additional supporters. Love you sis!!!

I am so grateful to hear Hearshii’s voice about how hard she’s worked on her drag and what the experience has been like. She seems like a really grounded person and authentically excited about her drag. Give the girls their coins!
Missed opportunity for Maddy to edit in the specific film techniques Hershii keeps referring to. I love it so much, because i do the same kind of thing when im talking sometimes, and i know i wouldve appreciated them editing it in to show the audience the effect she was speaking of. Otherwise perfect 11/10

Do the drag race gals get any compensation, other than when/if they win a challenge or the competition?
Considering they are providing a service (working) for the production company, they should be getting some monetary compensation, regardless of how well they perform in the competition.
I hope they do, cuz if not, thats just screwed up!!!
They get some payment to be on the show as well as travel getting to the set is paid first, but otherwise there is no stipend given to the girls for their drag race packages. I think there’s been talk about getting the girls stipends at least for All Stars I believe (not 100% sure yet!) but the girls on main seasons are ones who really need it
