      @duxdawg that first article is the stupidest article I've seen, depression is a serious mental illness and a huge problem, it is not a survival instinct. Even if it was, it's a terrible one, depression has cause millions of suicides around the world. I think it's horrible of you to even say that it's not as serious as it is. Shame on you.
      Depression is just a series of events? Really? What about people like me who will suffer from depression for the rest of my life because its chronic? What about those who never make it out alive?
      I appreciate the support links, but that first one is absolutely nothing but disrespect to those who are suffering.

    • @johnsheppard1476
      @johnsheppard1476 3 роки тому +5

      It's not about SLAP rounds-it's about too hot rounds.To be more precise it's about incompatibility of an exact gun design with any loadings that include HE components like PETN which for me is apparent here simply because I load the majority of my ammunition with this type of propellant and know how it looks like when it is fired!The guns that I have though are all either rated for this kind of pressure that is generally 50-60% higher than that of a regular gunpowder or I modify them to safely fire them!For instance I even load the rounds for my PTRS-41 with this stuff and nevertheless it is modified to accept that much more energy than it was originally rated for-and besides the muzzle energy in it gets from 35 kilojoules to 56 which is about 3 times more than .50 BMG does!Now as for the barrel on this exploded gun in this video it is actually not produced by Serbu firearms:it is a barrel from M2HB and the gun itself is nothing more than a bunch of bad and cheap shrubbery that is supposed to make a firearm out of a barrel that it is attached to!But when SHTF happens you don't see the actual barrel being damaged at all by any means because it is rated for this kind of pressure:you may notice that it has zero issues with it:even the threadings on the barrel itself are intact and the failed part of the locking system here is obviously the cap that lost all it's threadings because it is just a cheap POS!So the real message here should be the following:if you want to have a large caliber rifle-you will inevitably either pay by your significant amount of money which means 7-8k dollars minimum or you will eventually pay with your health and quite highly likely with your life as well!There are no cheap large caliber rifles that are safe:this POS costs under 2k dollars with barrel included-it's like buying a car for 20k dollars,taking it to the F1 racing competition and then being surprised that you didn't win against professionals on multi-million dollar bolides!My PTRS-41 costs about 30 thousand dollars without modifications and close to 40 with them!And you don't get a gun that is capable of 56 kilojoules for any cheaper than that!As simple as that!

      @@johnsheppard1476 it's even worse than that, he had an engineer take a look at the design, and that cap and those threads were rated for 161,000 PSI...normal round is 55,000... to shear those threads off is... incredibly powerful, that round must have been filled with pistol powder.

      And to answer the first guy. Mark Serbu specifically made the heavy barrel for Scott’s RN-50 to handle SLAP rounds. The tolerances for the barrel aren’t as tight as a standard RN-50 barrel. Scott mentions this in one of his earlier videos but I’m not sure which one.

    I would like to extend a thank you to Mr Rehi for reacting to/talking about this video. Besides giving us a reaction to be entertained by, he is also highlighting a very important episode in firearm safety and, as it is looking to be more and more likely, the dangers of using counterfeit ammunition and the importance of first aid training.
    Yes, these things were certainly highlighted by Kentucky Ballistics and also by Mark Serbu, but so far, most channels that are discussing it fall into the GunTuber space. While Artur's audience certainly has overlap with that space, he himself is not a GunTuber and reaches a different audience. It is important that people are made aware of what happened even if they never go near a rifle, because they aren't the only things that can explode. Accidents happen, and can happen to anyone at anytime. Everyone should be trained in first aid, and Artur is helping to show people why this is such an important skill to have.
    Onto another topic, I would like to echo a sentiment and would like to see Artur react to "The Star Spangled Banner as you've never heard it."

I was doing salvage diving on the weekends as a side job. 90 feet (30m) under water I got hit with a 5lb picking hook swinging off our salvage at 35mph (underwater). I remember getting about 10ft (3m) from the surface, waking up in the boat in a pool of my own blood at the dock, then waking up in the hospital 3 days later.
    I only found out later my captain saw me pass out just under the water and noticed all the blood around me and he pulled me up in the boat and rushed me to the dock calling EMS as we came in. He, the surgeons, and the nurses are literally the only reason I lived to see my 33rd birthday, much less my 17th.

      This is how tweaks to designs happen. If someone is using a terrible ammunition, your gun can always improve the way it works (venting to the side, more solid in one direction or less solid, etc.) even if it's because of customers using the gun wrongly, or ammunition not working right.

      @@LClaypool we still don't know exactly what happened. So far, what I've seen is pointing not to a barrel obstruction, but to a case rupture. The strongest evidence for this is the fact that the breech plug went rocketing backwards. If the sabot gets stuck, it's going to be (as you indicate) in the muzzle brake, but if it does that, the pressure in the barrel will have dropped enough to where it will still cause damage, but that damage will be to the barrel and not the entire receiver.
      In a case rupture event, however, all of the pressure is contained in the firing chamber, which absolutely _will_ blow up the entire receiver

    • @LClaypool
      @LClaypool 3 роки тому +1

      @@PhycoKrusk all good points. I agree, not sure we will ever know what happened. Either way pressure was so high, it ripped off the threads. There are even theories that round had a charge other than just powder. I didnt get scientific, but I think we all agree it was a bad round. And knowing those rounds spotty history, it definitely should not have been loaded into that design rifle. And as much as I love Scott's channel, he shouldn't have fired that round in the serbu. Would the Barrett have held? Who knows, but may not have hurt Scott so badly. Just glad hes ok. There are lots of really good theories out there.

      @@LClaypool Mark Serbu just posted an update on the investigation. He doesn't have the ammo or rifle yet, but he was able to share a side-by-side of the ammo Scott used with what we know is legitimate SLAP ammo: legitimate SLAP ammo has cuts in the plastic sabot (to facilitate removal once it leaves the barrel) and a crimp around the base of the projectile (to hold the whole thing together). Scott's ammo has neither of these.
      We should still wait until the investigation is concluded, but at this point, I'm willing to say that the ammo was counterfeit and would have exploded in any rifle; it just happened to explode in Scott's.

    • @LClaypool
      @LClaypool 3 роки тому +1

      @@PhycoKrusk agreed. Something was definitely off with the ammo. Also agree that it would have blown an most any 50. I've shot tons of 50 in my Barrett. Honestly, I like Serbu's ingenuity, but my gut never liked the design. Ive seen the Barrett hold up in the roughest conditions. But also on the long range precision side too. Having said that. I've also seen match barrels get toasted when guys fired old tracer rounds from broken up belt ammo surplus. So, who knows. Just an all around FUBAR. Scott's so fking lucky. Just glad hes on the mend. But probably like you, cant wait to see if we can get a solid answer on the malfunction. I agree it started w a bad round, just the gunner in me would like to understand the sequential process of how it all broke down from the round failure forward. But agree, overpressure looks like suspect #1

    What he’s talking about with the metal rod into his rib cage was a chest tube. Intubation goes into your throat to put you on a ventilator. Considering everything he was going through, he’s remarkably accurate in his retelling.
    The chest tube gets out to suction and relieves the internal pressure allowing the lung to inflate. Lungs inflate under negative pressure so when it’s full of air or fluid, it collapses.
    Hope this helps clarify things.

    Not a freaking 50 cal, but a 9mm beretta blew up in my hands. It was painful and half my hand was covered in blood. The underside of my right thumb was broken, and only the grip was left intact. The slide hit me on the shoulder, but that was not critical, man that was my dad's gun. We took it to his farmhouse, and as we were shooting it, one bullet got stuck in the barrel and being a rookie, I pulled the trigger once again to blow the gun up. Any ways, after a quick recovery, I am fine!

The cost of my RN-50 was cheaper than twelve .50 cal SLAP rounds {$125 each} plus lots of other .50 cal rounds. I paid $1250 for mine & it is an extremely reliable rifle, according to the experts who made videos on it._*

    He's since replicated the accident with a replacement rifle from a friend, secured in a vise and fired by a rather long string. He had 12 additional SLAP rounds, which he fired, with over half requiring a strap wrench to unscrew the breech plug and a lot of effort extracting the fired cartridge. The primer was ejected from a couple of rounds, several more the primer was pushed partially out of the cartridge.
    He got the rounds from a somewhat dubious source and it appears that the rounds were massively overcharged, I'd estimate twice normal or thereabouts. He finally loaded an insanely overcharged round and replicated the explosion of the rifle reasonably well.
    The lesson is, buy your ammunition from known trusted sources, not random good price sources, lest you get a bolt in your throat or skull.
    A fair amount of the surgical techniques used to save his life were pioneered by military surgeons, for fairly obvious reasons. He had hemopneumothorax, lacerated jugular vein, the skull injuries to wire back together, so he was incredibly fortunate to survive the trip to the hospital!
    I'd hate to see what his copays look like though.

    I never shoot ammo that was made by a Reloader I don’t know or trust. If I don’t know you sorry I don’t trust you. I also source my ammo from a major manufacturer that I trust. If I was going to shoot a round as powerful as a 50 cal I would make the round myself. It’s the only way to be 100% sure. In addition I inspect all rounds visually. In addition I weigh every round as well. If there is extra powder in the round weighing it will most likely uncover that. For that round to have that much pressure 85,000 PSI it must have a heavy load close to a double charge. Inspecting the seating and crimping is also something that must be done. I think Scott is an amazing guy and has reinforced a lot of things for all of us. I’m glad he is going to be alright.

    I watched the original video on his channel and it was hard to watch. I've been in situations where someone was bleeding out and I've seen how hard it is for them to stay awake. The fact that he would have died if he passed out made me sick to my stomach. My sister in law was on dialysis and she had a port in her femeral artery that broke open one night at my house. There was enough blood pouring out of her leg to make a waterfall down my stairs. I crammed my finger into her leg and pinched off the artery while my wife called an ambulance. I watched the fear in her face and saw her turn white and pass out. She lived that time but I can't imagine if her life relied on her keeping herself awake and applying pressure on her own wound. It happened again a couple years later and again we kept her from bleeding to death but sadly she caught a bad infection in the hospital and she died from it 4 days after going into the hospital. He is damn lucky to be alive. God was watching over him.

    There have been several hypotheses, one of which concerns using sabot rounds which have a thin, needle like bullet surrounded by a plastic sabot. When fired, the sabot either comes apart after leaving the barrel or instantly melts and coats the inside of the muzzle brake, causing a restriction. This would amount to a barrel obstruction.
