    When I was a kid in the early '60s in metro NY it still wasn't cool to wear jeans to school---there were dress codes, is what I mean. You could be sent home. The revolution happened about '67 when denim became as "normal" as chinos, and the identification wasn't with cowboys (or even movie cowboys) so much as it was with California and rock star rebels. At least that's my East Coast kid recollection. This was a fabulous video: informative, fun, and your easy style is a pleasure to listen to.

    Lee 101 are my favorite brand when it comes to denim. Their rider jackets are as iconic as Levis. Brando, McQueen, Newman, and, of course, Dean all regularly wore Lee. They have been around forever and pretty much every modern denim jacket on earth is fashioned after either the Type III or the Lee Rider.

    Fun fact: Jack Nicholson also wore Lee Riders in The Shining

    Great video! Did not know Lee was the first out the 3 to use zippers, definitely a overlooked brand this day and age but I appreciate you highlighting them

    Dean's also famous red nylon zipper jacket was made by California Sportswear in Downtown Los Angeles where my grandmother worked for 35 years. It also came in a real nice blue.
    Speaking of blue, indigo along with cotton and tobacco were the three major cash crops of the pre-Civil War South. Big demand for that deep blue dye color in Europe.

    Carhartt BO1 (double knee) is one of my favorite survivors of the eras long gone that is super original and from my understanding really little changed. I really love those and they age really interesting. I was surprised when it became mainstream

      Carhartt is so amazing - I wore them for work as an electrician for years. Cool to know they have a rich heritage.

    I absolutely love Lee Rider 101 Jeans. I have several ones and they are really good Jeans. I really recommend checking them out. :)

      Cool! They're on my short list! I want to do reviews of the 501, 101, and 13MWZ...What do you like most about the 101?

    • @IIIIIlllIIl-t4q
      @IIIIIlllIIl-t4q 5 місяців тому +2

      For me personally the Rider 101 is the Jeans that fit me the best. Even when I get the measurements right in other Jeans they are not as perfectly fitting as the Riders.
      And also just as you said, they are kind of an underdog and not many people wear them.
      The quality is really very good and the feel very sturdy even if you get the 13oz ones.
      And lastly as a James Dean fan there is no way I wouldn’t get them ;).
      I would specifically recommend the “Recycled Blue Weft” Edition. They are woven in Japan and have a Jade Green Selvedge Line.

    The biggest mystery is why did it take so long for black denim jeans to come out? I bought my first pair of black Levis in 1985. I think that was around the time they first came out.
    There was a Lee 5 pocket twill jean that was popular in 1983/84 that came in every color. Then by 1987 denim jeans came in every color. I tried to research this but no info. Just what I witnessed. The 1980s was when jeans started coming in different colors. But why did it take so long?

    • @thevintagefuture6567
      @thevintagefuture6567  5 місяців тому +1

      Ok now this is a great question! I know they made different colors in the 1800s, the workwear age (1920-1950), and the peacock era of the 60s, but they weren't prevalent, weren't always denim fabric, and I think black was not one of those colors. Very good question about the black denim. It really should have been a thing sooner.....I wonder if it's because black fabric was not a positive message for most of the 1900s. We view it as commonplace now, but factually speaking, a black leather jacket or dressing all in black (Johnny Cash) was seen as crossing a line in most decades last century, for various reasons, whether Nazi or Punk or Black Panthers etc. So maybe that was why. Many academic institutions in the 50s-60s literally banned black leather jackets and other black clothing.

    Lee MVPs are the most comfortable brick and mortar jeans ove worn but it feels like they put zero effort into advertising themselves. Like they dont care whether they remain popular lol

      Greasepoint Workwear has good stuff like that....Railcar Fine Goods...Iron Heart....sometimes Freenote....These brands won't always have that exact thing you're looking for, but seasonally they release garments that fit your bill. Doesn't hurt to scan through the Hinoya website and Mister Freedom from time to time for these kind of items. Monsavais Co too, but they're more repro

      I dunno, a rigid pair of Wranglers is not half bad, especially for $40....But yes you're right, they definitely lost their former glory in a big way.

      wrangler 13 mwz 936 and 47 still great and amazing fades i have two pairs, and once in a while 501 made in Mexico 14 oz its great.Lee in the mid nities in usa was really down, wrangler 13 mwz its better now than during the 1980 to 2001 the year that i get my last Levis SHRINK TO FIT 501 IN A ARMY NAVY SHOP in Philly of course non selvedge, Lee was made in Portugal and it was good material i still have a few old pairs from 501 stf from the nineties and last one i get in USA IN 2001 and a Lee made in Portugal, MY DISAPPOINTMENT IS THIS kaihara lvc denim sad repro of the 1947 thin and weak,compare to the unfinished and 13.50 and others from Japan from Brave star like the hatch attack or candini denim 15 oz from Benzak.Iam beating a unfinished and a golden hand shake last five years and the wrangler 47 and a hatch attack from brave star and i am not easy on them... stevenson overall and the lvc i keep it for sundays and to my promenades in Lisbon because i see they are not so strong, i do like to try the sugar cane 47...love your reviews a hug from Portugal.

      I get it 😂 Trust me, I don't think it's ideal. It's just what works in my busy life these days, so I'm not taking more time from family life and not being bothered at home or in the office while trying to shoot footage. I'm more of a hobbyist/enthusiast anyways - you'll find higher quality production from the real legit pro tubers like Stridewise/Iron Snail/Carl Murawski. Anyways, thank you for your kind honesty. It is appreciated. I will definitely try to shoot in a stationary setting when possible.
