Join producer Jakob Herrman at his studio in Gothenburg, Sweden, for a behind-the-scenes look at the new IR pack - The Heaviest Cab In The World.
Jakob is here to tell you about how the pack was made together with KJ Melgoza, how he combines the IRs to keep things interesting in a song, and how to turn accidents into unique parts!
----
Record your guitars with the unique sound of a 300-pound speaker cabinet. The Heaviest Cab in the World IR Pack is a collection of impulse responses made with the Mahler 2x12 speaker cabinet. It’s built of solid granite, and only four of these cabinets exist. They sound like nothing else.
A massive, rigid enclosure like the Mahler 2x12 lets more of the speaker driver character come through. Lighter speaker enclosures act more like the body of an acoustic guitar, where the wood type and construction play a big part in determining the overall timbre. That coloration can certainly be desirable, but in the case of speaker cabinets, it also means that the character of the speaker elements becomes less distinctive. This makes the Mahler 2x12 so special - its heft and inertia give you the true, uncolored sound of the speaker drivers.
The Heaviest Cab in the World IR Pack has been expertly captured by producer/engineer Jakob Herrmann in his Top Floor Studios in Gothenburg, Sweden. Jakob has worked with Anthrax, In Flames, Europe, Dark Tranquillity, and countless other bands and artists. The Heaviest Cab in the World IR Pack gives you the same guitar cabinet tones Jakob crafts for his clients.

Hi everyone here, I bought this IR-pack a few day ago.
I’ve have just tried out the combination L/R of the IR “Dirty 30s” and “Black Blimp Room Take”, mentioned at 4:13, and I’m very satisfied with that!
Thank you for this informative, motivating, professional and sympathetic video!
😊
Downloaded your new plugin MLC Subzero 100 and holy... The cleans, the leads and the Rythm presets😮 It's like finally someone understands the sounds that we wants.. Imo this is the best sounding ampsim I've ever tried, Can't wait to get home and try it again. Instant buy, easily. Great job 🎸😁
I love this IR pack. Works very well in the mix.
Awesome video with Jakob, that was great how he explained how he used his IR's on this song 😀🤘🎵🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I also got this pack to use with Neural DSP plugins and they work amazing. So far, my favorite combination is "Pitch Black" and "Jensen5 Raw". Playing rhythm is just a pleasure!
very technical and fascinating .. everything needs air around it and rooms are often more important than the things we use to record them ..
Let me know when you do a heavy guitar sound with that stone cab..something like hate eternal or suffocation. Very curious
Vildhjarta used this cab on their last album I believe. Incredibly heavy tones!
Is this the same studio that Devin Townsend recently recorded at? Looks familiar.
Yes! Top Floor Studios in Gothenburg. Jakob is working with Dev right now.
@Bogren.Digital Thanks for confirming. The studio seems badass and Jakob really knows his stuff. I was surprised by the size (width) of the live room/drum room, but damn, the results are amazing. Will have to add these IRs to my wish-list. 🤘
I'm very curious to hear the full song!
He seems like a nice dude to talk with though not my type of IR`s at all. Looking forward to everything new anyway!
At least in this example guitar sounds more hard-rockish.
