  • Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield on Contradictions, Self Evaluation, & Michael Stipe As Her Favorite Singer
Katie Crutchfield catches up with Kyle Meredith to talk about Tigers Blood, the latest album from Waxahatchee. The singer-songwriter tells us about how writing on the road for more or less the first time lent a lot of inspiration to the stories, the intersection of being an artist and her personal life, and looking at the songs as a collective of self evaluation. Crutchfield goes on to talk about her love of contradictions, originally writing “365” with Wynonna Judd in mind, and why her favorite vocalist is R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe.

This album is great. This interviewer is not. Kyle perpetuates voyeuristic looks into writing. He projects himself into the songs. Come on, man. Songs are not fictional stories, you should know better. This album oozes pathos... it just connects, it is poetry. It's not about you or me or her. It's about everything.
