BTS itslelf is tower site comprises BBU(on ground either in shelter or Cabinet) + RRU and Antenna's(on tower)...the equipment which u mentioned in shelter is actually a BBU which is installed in controlled environment while RRU and Antenna in Tower top. BBU communicate with RRU via CIPRI interface.
There is a question mam, may I get trace new phones entered into an area in a few interval of time by using bts by any app ?? If yes then name of app???

BTS is a unit at top of antenna
The thing you are explaining is BBU ie Baseband unit.
BTS and RRU combines and makes the antenna unit.
