I understand the concern but you have to understand the tank where the whale sharks are was designed specifically to house them. The ocean voyager tank is about 13 acres (for reference a football field is about 1.32 acres). Studies over the years have shown that the whale sharks are flourishing in this enviorment. The water is kept clean and pollution free, the whale sharks are under a very well fed schedule and are extremely well taken care of. As are all the species in the aquarium. Also the whale sharks are endangered so conservations are necessary to their continued surivival. Through the whale sharks being housed at the aquaroum we've learned so much about them and are still learning so much more. There was a study done a few years back about the whale sharks and the study showed that the four whale sharks housed in the aquarium most likely would not be living the long healthy lives they are now outside of the aquarium.

@FoxLimbs Question: How would they not be able to adapt and survive in the wild if they were their in the first place?? If they capture them in the wild, and are held captive in an aquarium, wouldn’t they still have their wild life instincts? It’s not like they can just forget how they once were in the wild and the mechanisms that they did while they were in the wild. Or does being held captive for a really long time, make the animal sort of forget their natural instincts of survival in the wild by being fed by people, instead of them hunting their selves? I’m really intrigued to know
All the animals at GA are rescued and deemed non releaseable and this is the biggest aquarium in the us 6.3 gallons is more than suitable for 4 whale sharks
Enjoy them. The ones in the wild likely won't be around in a couple more decades. These Sharks will likely be vital for re-introducing them back into the wild at some point hopefully if humanity gets its act together or something forces us

They don't need conservation. They are very happies in the Ocean. NO need aquarium, this is a jail.
Yeah! And they totally aren't gonna die by hunters anyways.
@@veereadsthings its not...... its just about the size of a football field, and this is way too small....
@@catjones3731 they most likely die because of oil intoxication caused by the oilboom america made the world suffer with.
Whale sharks are the BEST !!!
This is horrible. Whale sharks shouldnt be kept in captivity.
Its one of the biggest tanks in the world. And they have plenty of swimming room. Watch The Aquarium On Animal Planet to see for yourself
I’m pretty sure they’re kept there for medical reasons
@@Northwestscapes no TANK will ever compair to the vast area of the OCEAN. How would you like to be locked up in a cage for the entertainment of millions of other people and never be let out of that cage for the rest of your life? Because basically that's what's going on here. I don't give a damn how big the tank is or the aquarium for that matter... It's sickening
....
@@stephensarmento3529 I understand, but They're given the proper care, feeding, medical care, and the tank size is extremely massive. Only a few sharks travel extreme distances, and the whale shark isnt one of them. And like I said, the tank was designed specifically for and around the whale sharks and manta rays
Your work is great
Me: Hey whatsup woman!
Very nice with tranquil music to this video. Well done and thank you for what you do for these big gentle beasts
I always wanted to see a whale shark I have never seen one before
Claudia baca did you try google
Claudia baca Neither have I, but I’d be honoured to see them swimming around one of these years.
First Video Ive Seen Like This Pretty Cool
Wow amazing!! ❤️
Yooo This is amazing!
Anybody else watch most of it before realizing that the screen moved? ......nope, just me? 😕😂😂
I'm here😂🙌
Amith Shetty lol....glad I wasn’t alone
Awesome video
They don’t belong in a tank, they belong in the ocean! When will we learn.
They're rescued whales and if you release them early there is a big chance they wouldn't survive cuz they're used to being fed then hunting food themselves
Do you eat meat?
Need to learn not to throw our trash everywhere first boo✌ we kinda fucked up their home
Hey there, all whale sharks at the Georgia Aquarium are rescued from the shark fin soup trade in parts of Asia. Their whale sharks were wild caught by fisherman with the intent to sell them to be killed for shark fin soup. Georgia Aquarium bought them and rehomed them in the aquarium to save their lives. It is not the best home for them of course but when I toured behind the scenes there, you see how well loved and cared for they are. The sharks in the aquarium are essentially rescues and help serve as ambassadors to raise awareness for the species and the dangers they face on a day to day basis in the wild. Hope this helped a bit!
I’m really intrigued to know
The tank isn't big enough but it's still bigger than SeaWorld's
I am so supprised that was so awesome it was the coolest video ever
What the hell !!!!...A beautiful whale shark in an aquarium!!!!😥
All the animals at GA are rescued and deemed non releaseable and this is the biggest aquarium in the us 6.3 gallons is more than suitable for 4 whale sharks
Still very sad to see a whale shark in a tank albeit big
Enjoy them. The ones in the wild likely won't be around in a couple more decades. These Sharks will likely be vital for re-introducing them back into the wild at some point hopefully if humanity gets its act together or something forces us

I’m going to say it
Shark pog
Should free this majestic giant!
Kevin Chamberlain please inform yourself about this Aquarium. The animals have a huge area to swim and the people take good care of them. For example, they saved 5 belugas who were abused. This Aquarium saves animals, who are hunted by humans. Like I said before, the animals have a huge area to swim and can life, without getting killed or abused by humans!
@@Marie-cq2cy Fair enough, Marie, I'm glad they're well looked after! It was just an emotional rant on my part. 😁
