Just purchased o6 , 141000 miles, just got it off trailer, sound like tennis shoe in dryer, runs great, glad to hear its normal, bikes with lot less miles with same noise, glad i came across these comments
its a common noise and honda knows all about it. mine started around 10.000 miles and drove me nuts for 60.000 more. (2008 GL1800) over the years it seamed to get a little louder and much more annoying. Problem wasn't the alternator or the clutch. in my case it was idler gear that drives the flywheel clutch when the starter is engaged also helps with reverse. . (reminded me of the idler gear issue in my Kawasaki KLX300 with out the block damage) when in free mode it just free spins and wobbles around on the shaft driving you freaking crazy. sometimes if i pulled the clutch in the noise would stop or quiet down a bit. MY FIX!!!!! i added a washer between the nut and gear to stop the wobble! problem solved. ripping the bike down was the hard part the actual fix took 2 minutes total time invested was all weekend. I have put almost 19.000 miles on that fix without issue!!! Hope this helps and always ride safe...
@@OMERTA_888 good to know. I just picked up a 2016 GW with 23k miles and It has the same sound...but goes away when I pul the clutch in. I guess I will just learn to ignore it at some point lol
Mine sounds like crap when I start it up, too, just like this, and after it first drops the idle to normal. After a few minutes of riding it sounds a lot better. 2010 GL1800 66,000 miles.
My 2007 Goldwing with 109,000 miles sound like this but isn't quite this loud and more growling and no clunking. Brandons Life, did you eventually have to repair it? What was the repair? Thanks for posting.
Give me big relief while ready all the comments now the big issue beside these my gears 😅 when i engage it hit and sound like Bullet fired 😅 why and what ia. solution it dose on slow. spead. and and i do it quickly alow speed sound same but less dukk please your precious comments
My '94 does that, this is my first bike, 51k . The noise is down between my feet. I put it on the center stand and thought it was the driveshaft. I'm a mechanic but the dealer told me it was under warranty, so I took it to the honda dealer and currently waiting on on statis. Feedback is welcomed, Guys.
If it's a normal sound then ALL Goldwings should do it right off the showroom floor. Typical response from any manufacturer. By the time something comes apart, it'll be out of warranty.
Your transmission is going out. It sounds like bad bearings to me. Please, people pay attention. Change your oil and the filter. And don't skimp on the oil buy premium full synthetic oil. But then again, that's just my opinion, but. I have over 158,000 and counting on my 2003 GL1800.

Do you have video how you did it mine also also when i pull the clutch the noise goes and the dealership told me to fix it i need to pay 5000 dollar 😭
@@ahmadayed9088 sorry I did not do a video but I wish I would have.
Could you please help to explain how you fixed this issue so we can fix it on ours I will make a post on goldwing docs for all of you help
Mine (2009) does the same thing! What is causing that?
Is this sound... really normal?
My 2010 does exactly this noise with only 21,000klms (kilometres, not miles) on the clock. After I get back from a ride it seems to be gone though.
My 2003 started doing this at idle when cold. It’s engine not trans. It stops above idle. It stops at idle when warmed up.
What is that noise because mine started doing that. I'm thinking it might be the timing chain needs to be replaced. What did you find out it was?
My GL Bagger does the same,is that ok,when I squeeze the clutch the sound disappears?
What did you find out?
@@LayneSteighlee they told me in the Service that it was ok. and almost everyone hears that! I don't even pay attention anymore 😎

My 2006 does this too. What’s the culprit because that’s not normal.

Thank you ! for the post!!!
That completely normal, it’s called gear rollover, Norma characteristic of straight cut gears when cold.
Mine does it even after fully warm.
What did you do about yours
ua-cam.com/video/zIWPE0obKnc/v-deo.html This is why you get the rattle. Nothing is broken. But the bearing is not a tight fit.
yep mine does the same thing
Mine does too...I dont think it is normal

So what was it?
What did you find wrong with your bike
mine 2009 does that too , just like this one and only 24000km on bike whooshing sound like cement mixer
My 06 does it also only 27k on it.
It’s not the alternator bearings that’s making that noise, but it is actually the alternator drive gear is failing and the noise is not normal .
Are you sure?
Not true. Very normal for wings.
2013 101000 miles does the same thing, told not to worry about it, the all do it
sounds like a fucked bearing but then a again its a honda...ultra reliable.
Bad alternator bearings
Good morning sir mine has a clicking and I was told that it is a alternator washer drive how do you fix it
Did anyone figure out what this noise is i installed new alternator same noise
@Carlosxyz1000 where is the video?
@@Carlosxyz1000nh😂r🎉😢 🎉j🎉
That's what happens when you shove a car engine in a motorcycle.
More than likely it's the Alternator drive gear (ADG) going bad. the springs inside are rattling.
No spring on this year. Hydraulic

my 06 dose it! with 50k
