Have a Model 50 myself and finally found a mag after about a year of looking. The mag is from a Savage 1903 but it will fit given i have to notch a cut in the mag for the Model 50 catch release. My question is I thought the bolt will rest on the back of the mag follower as a "hold open" feature when the mag is empty. Your rifles bolt goes from complete open to complete closed even with an empty mag seated? It does not grab the mag follower to stay open?

Hello, It would be greatly appreciated if you could do a detailed discussion of the modification of a Savage magazine to make it function with the early model 50. Thanks!!

Great video. I bought a what i believe is a A1DL. It did not have a magazine so after searching I found that the model 80 would fit. However all that was mentioned was there was a slight modification to the clip needed. I had to do slight mods. to the stock and through plate to get it seat in. Now it will not feed right, must be the modification that was mentioned. Any ideas or have you heard of this? The firearm is in near mint condition, just wishing now that it fire:)

i have a marlin A1 that was given to me a few years ago by my uncle that was "found in a lake" by my grandfather in the 50's. i'm trying to restore it and can't find the parts i need, such as the entire bolt mechanism, which is missing, and magazine. do you have any idea where to find those parts?

Hello....I have what I believe is a Marlin A1...The safety is on the guns right side. it does not not have the grooved forearm. I believe it was bought at Western Auto back in the 40s...Is there a site you know of that I can get more info? Thanks

If you go over and register at the Marlin Collectors forum, the user "Tigweld" has an excellent tutorial on the mods necessary to make a Model 80 mag work in an A1 / A1DL.......the proper mags show up on gunbroker......I'd hold out for an original though.....they are not terribly uncommon or expensive

I just acquired a Marlin Model 50. It’s missing the charging knob. Can you tell me how it fastens to the bolt? Thanks

It simply inserts into the bolt....it has a small detent, and is held in place by the recoil spring guide that fits inside the rear of the bolt

@@villafuego I made a cocking knob from a turned down 3/8” bolt. It works good, but I have light primer strikes. Could it be because I’m using a Numrich reproduction recoil spring? I’ve tried different springs, but they don’t work. I don’t see any obstructions in the chamber. Thanks

Boy O Boy finaley found someone with earley Marlin such as the A1, I have a Ranger 104-3 which is the twin Marlin A1 Talk about rare, some say the Marlin 795 is the best ever because of acurecy and clip fed, well I disagree these old ones were doing that in the 1930s My dad bought it new for $11.50 at the Sears&Roebuck in Stockton CA.
