In today’s video, Ed Ward gives us a primer on the Snap-T, or “Circle-Spey” style casts that we all end up using so much. We use this cast a lot due to its wide variety of uses, which will be discussed in further detail in this video. Ed will discuss the applicability of Snap-T, talk about performing the cast off your downstream shoulder, and some situational anecdotes giving you some more context on the how and why you’d choose this technique and which shoulder to cast from. So, grab a snack, a drink, and a pen and paper, and get ready to have some knowledge dropped on you from the Obi-Wan of Skagit himself.

Really good video. I don't think I've ever tried the downstream Circle C. Cool cast, I
ll have to play with it.

I think a lot of people are getting a Circle C confused with a Snap T. I had a Snap T go wrong for me this year with a heavy bug and wind blowing, the fly hit the rod half way down and smashed the rod in two!! Ed knows what hes talking about.

In this video what length of rod are you using. Also what grain of head, tip length if used. Very informative video.

Wow without watching this... This is EXACTLY what I did at the cowichan river when I needed to cast river left with wind downstream as well with no casting space on my right side. Spooky haha

I would add as a tip is know your anchor length as well justttt in case in certain situations you can't wade too far from the river bank with trees behind you and when you place your anchor you dont smash your fly on rocks

Glad that this resonates to an on-the-water experience for you Ray! The downstream C-Spey or Snap-T is a really good cast to have in your arsenal for sure.

Nice casting real dirty colored waters makes the line pop and see easily. what wt Fly Rod & Line ? seems a tad over weight for Rod?

      Thanks! It's not overloaded, it's a 175 grain Commando Skagit head on a 3wt switch, I believe.
